I'm trying to separate this up pipe on an ATS 093 turbo system. Any suggestions on how to separate these without breaking them? I currently have it soaking in PB blaster. Also is it typical to be able to remove and install this still connected when the engines in the truck?

when I pulled mine from the donor truck I had to do a series of tilting the engine back and forward(trans disconnected) in order to pull it from the top.

I have heard you can stab the up pipe as a unit from below, but I haven't tried it and cannot confirm that.

I was able to push the whole pipe up from the bottom with a pry bar an a lot of curse words. If you have the 5 speed tranny like I do then cut the ear off the tranny an it will slip in. I have heard horror stories about getting them to seal back so try to do it in 1 piece.

Get out the torches and heat it cherry red, tap it with a hammer to break loose the rust and soot seal. Work it back and fourth and it'll come apart. Thats what I had to do to get mine apart. I don't think you'll be able to get it in in one piece.

I did remove it in one piece from a truck in the junkyard. It took a little bit to get it pushed down, but I did get it. I wouldn't want to have to do that on a truck I liked though. I'm regretting not getting the one in my crew cab apart before installing. At the time the cab was off, so it installed really easy. :sly

Thanks for the help guys.

I would think heating and cooling with pb blaster a few times will loosen it up. Light tapping with a hammer loosens up rust too. If this is a cast iron piece hitting it with a hammer hard may crack it. so be careful with a hammer.

That last pic of the guy and a cup of coffee is from some commericial about "bigger & better" longer ***... If you take their pills....:slyLOL Funny anyway... I use the aerokroil in my shop all the time. At this time kano labs is doing a twofer deal. Order one or two cans. Mix or match. Try one if you don't like it sent back the unused can and keep the open can... You will never send back a can. It just works that well. Add some heat and cool the stuck bolt with this stuff and its loose in no time. The machine shop I retired from bought it in the 55 galon drums because the so cali county felt the propelant was harmfull to the air. So we got in in the bulk size... We could not even use weed killer in the concrete lay down pads where the weeds grow between the cracks.. WTH is that all about... We even had to do a inspection every morning of all the floor drains to make sure nothing was in them but clean water. I found a white milky material one morning in one and we had all kinds of investigation going on as to what it was. Turns out some fool wanted the office floors waxed and looking shiny and some nite floor shiner poured out the stripper in the lot drain. Big deal over nother.. But someone had a job because of that mess.. Nothing but red tape investigation and someone finally had something to do for the high pay they got..

i would honestly leave it together if at all possible. they are a pain to get sealed back up later on. that rust and soot might be all that seals in the exhaust gas, and since that is pre-turbo, if you have a leak, kiss your boost good by.....

I am in the process of installing a stock 1994 ford turbo in my 1990 truck. Mine is stuck together but I dont think I will seporate unless I cant get it installed. The question I have for the group is: Anyone buy any manifold studs (like the ones on the top of the picture of the up pipe). I bought a set of studs and nuts. The threads were not completly formed. Have you found the same or shoud they look like regular bolt threads? I can include a picture if this helps.
