085 better spooling, zf5, and intercooled

I'll try to keep that in mind. It's not a 100% sure thing yet and it will be a LONG term project.

Yea can’t complain get 4k turbo kit results out of 800-1200$ of parts just alot of elbow great

The results are impressive. I wonder if the same thing would work for a 088? I have a future project in mind.

If starting with no turbo, I would use something other than an 088 kit. They are the slowest spooling out of all kits I have had, and the integral exhaust housing/down pipe makes it impossible to change exhaust housing for better spool.

Intercooling does add performance, and an egt reduction, but you wont see a several hundred degree reduction with an 088, that unless you have really big fuel, will barely see 12psi.

088 is the same turbo as the 085 just different exhaust housings. Which I did so if he does the same as me it’s the same results

Yes, but the 088 uses an integral exhaust housing, would need to fab up basically everything on the exhaust side, including a way to support the exhaust side of the turbo. Not saying it cant be done, but is much easier to do what you did, with an 085 kit, or a first gen banks or hypermax.

Finally all buttoned up on this! For now
Finished my intake and crank case vent
Justin at r and d days VC sucks for a crank case vent as oil vapor hangs out there and to try to make an oil fill, timing cover vent. But I have a seemingly a million other projects going on so that’s down the road

Justin is working on making the banks oil fill/ timing cover inspection cover breather. He has a 3d printed Prototype made he has no eta but cool to here!

What a sweet project!! I’m going to be doing some thing similar to my 1986 f250

I have a question on the intercooler. if you had no ac and you did a different coolant revisor set up would the battery relocation be required ? I have no ac on my truck and never plan to add it. I was looking at using a 6.0 cooler like you did or a 7.3 cooler.

It is common to put the air filter in place of resivoirs keeping batteries in factory locations yes, I’d assume no modications will be needed for intercooling without an ac condenser to the rad/ core minus the obvious holes for inlet and outlet

This condensor fits 300x better than the stock one, and steel so you can weld brackets to it a lot easier highly recommend this if you are intercooling a bullnose
Stock one is a disaster for this, the side lines are unprotected, they are aluminum, and the lines are bent in a way that makes them wider than the cooling area thickness

All three of Those issues lead to a hole being rubbed into my stock one

Was expecting that to happen though, and I was more than happy with this like it was made for me

Side question radiator is the original and the top tank is starting to leak just enough to leave corrosion what are we doing for radiators these days? Something quality and as good or better than stock, idealy something that isn’t going to break the bank but I understand when you need to buy once cry once

That looks great!

I would assume you have the 31 inch radiator. Fortunately you can just buy a new brass one for 650$ from Jegs or 750$ from summit. Jegs has a OEM design aluminum one for 550$ The summit aluminum has plastic tanks and is like 400$ There’s also the eBay special aluminum ones for around 300$

I have not decided yet Which one I will be going with.

CDD was selling an aluminum one for 350$ but they are out of stock and won’t have any more due to over seas supply issues, at least that’s what the website says. The eBay aluminum ones look similar in construction to the CDD ones. Be sure to let us know what you get. I will need to buy one soon
