i have been working on these things "6.0" since new. usually first signs of problems are noticed at degas bottle/ coolant resivoir, check to see if low, dirty or looks like blowing coolant out cap. also a good cold start can tell u alot, if it is missfiring or lacks power cold this is a good...- 94iditurbo

'06 6.0l - Belching black smoke before turbo kicks in
make sure to check the egr valve.... sounds like alot of carbon built up in the intake. just pop it out and take a look! very simple to do.- 94iditurbo

injector problem........
well found out by cracking injector lines that cyl. 1 has missfire removed injector and it looked real dry and carboned up. i only drove it for about 100mi missing and hope no major damage is done. now i checked dealership today and found out that injectors cost about $50 each, or it looks like...- 94iditurbo

the dealership also sells the "plugs" or called pigtails and there not that expensive- 94iditurbo

i would definatly check wiring to connector..... but in all the $32 dollar switch i bought at the dealership is worth it... considering what is said above- 94iditurbo

blue smoke
yes the black smoke and noise you described would be related to the turbo vanes sticking. the turbo on this engine is a vgt turbo (varible geometry turbo) it uses a solenoid to controls vanes witch allow exhaust air to control compression side of turbo. your discription sound like the unison...- 94iditurbo
