What Clutch to go with? ZF5 Manual

I was really happy with an LUK replacement from Carolina Clutch. It was the best price I could find anywhere 1.5 years ago. Fast shipping and the parts they sent actually fit. I think mine was also around $350 with the flywheel.

It seems every IDI, the beast it is, should have the ZF. <-- read "period"

idi reliability HELP! --warning ... long crazy story

Hmm... I bet not many would be able to definitively diagnose a failed IP on the side of the road let alone swap it out. My "road kit" is a serpentine belt, fuel filters, and a tool box. Oh and AAA extended towing.

    2015 IDI weekend

Shame that there is an MOB rally that competes with this.

    Water In Fuel Sensor Replacement

The owner could be right, I had one go bad and it is a cheap and easy replacement. I just looked at my receipts. In 2012 I bought the switch for $15.69 at a local NAPA store. The part number was 730-5602. I did notice that the connector was ever-so-slightly different shape but with a little...

idi reliability HELP! --warning ... long crazy story

The tranny was a really bad hit. The rest doesn't sound too bad except for the Murphy's Law effect. Did you ever check the SCAs in that beast? It is one of the few things that can kill an engine.

I think you should drive it to IDI week. And bring the violin.

    Fuel Tank Selector Switch Questions

It is a sophisticated switch. When you switch it, it powers the valve into the new state and stays there even if power is removed until it is switched again.

    starter needed, which type?

I had an old caddie, the starter would occasionally freeze but if you tapped it with a hammer (thus jarring the brushes) it would take on another life.

Indeed, my truck wants a pretty good kick backwards to disengage.

FYI Grease fitting on double u joint

Hmm... there are 3 knuckles on my drive shaft. Only two have zercs, I always wondered why but I certainly don't have anything that looks like this.

    Front Wheel bearing

A bad bearing will change its sound on a turn at speed (vs. for example, tire noise).

Voltage Gauge and Multimeter Don't Agree

These are engine running numbers. The voltage gauge is likely reading the alternator output and there is a voltage drop between that and the battery because current is flowing through wires that have small but non-zero resistance. When your battery is fully charged as your numbers indicate the...

    Decided to rebuild the IDI

The fine print says the warranty is void if the vehicle is over 1 ton! "3 Year 75,000 miles Warranty accept for Ambulance, Off Highway Use, Package Delivery, Police, Taxi, Limousine, Tow Truck or any vehicle over one (1) ton."

    Steering Column Rebuild

Did you solve this? Sounds to me like there could have been an old bearing shaving in there. I am asking because I will eventually be in need of the same job. May just decide to replace the whole column. They say a crown vic will work.

    Newbie decision for vehicle

For the oil filter you can use the powerstroke filter Motorcraft FL-1995, it is taller but screws right on. Cheap at Walmart.

Most guys put a temp gauge to read real degrees. The factory gauge will creep up just a bit so the needle is touching the "N" when it is fully warm.

    Newbie decision for vehicle

Never saw a hook? Wow... let me see... 1) dropped a serpentine on the highway, 2) lift pump failure, 3) clutch failure, 4) snapped a tie rod off-road, 5) stuck on the beach, 6) dropped a drive shaft on the expressway in downtown Boston, probably I am forgetting something... Cape Cod Muscle knows...

    Newbie decision for vehicle

Maybe, but... you know what I noticed? Everybody wants to by a truck cheap but not one person I know wants to sell theirs for $2800. KBB is at $3400 which is some approximate indication of value.

    Newbie decision for vehicle

True the backseat is a royal pain in the ass but car seat days are numbered. A small kid can jump back there like nothing and buckle up in comfort. My 6 year old was very comfy driving across the country. Now nobody ever rides back there. It is dry secure storage. I know guys like their crew...

    Newbie decision for vehicle

None of what you showed would bother me and I like the looks of the truck. There is one potential deal breaker, however, and that is cavitation. You should get some test strips and check the coolant. Most would say walk away if it does not have the additives. Read this if you have not already...
