Ate 2 sets of gps in a month or so

That I don't know. I've never worked on a 6.9, but the 6.9 and 7.3 use different glow plugs.

Ate 2 sets of gps in a month or so

The first thing I'd eliminate is if the glow plugs are being over-volted. At the relay/controller unit there is a wavy Z-shaped shunt resistor that connects the outlet post of the relay to a post on the controller. The end of that resistor at the controller post is where the wiring harness for...

Ate 2 sets of gps in a month or so

Did this problem start about the time you wired in a manual switch? Is the system still original otherwise?

    7.3 starting issue

Does kind of sound like air intrusion. I'd wipe the valley pan as clean and dry as you can get it and also the exterior of the injection pump. Then keep checking it over time and see if you're weeping fuel from anywhere. Ever done the seals in the hard line from the fuel filter to the...

    new motorcraft glow plug issues

Yeah, test the resistance of the old and the new. For the autolites you took out you can test them with one lead on the connector end and one lead on the threads. For the motorcraft in the motor test them with one lead on the connector end and one lead on a good ground surface on the motor. A...

    Harbor fright compression gauge

I don't have a Harbor freight compression tester, I have a KD, so I've not personally dealt with this adapter problem. That said, if you look at the end of the adapter, not the quick-connect end, the other end, you'll see it has a tapered seat, like a brake bleed screw. That's what seals your...

I think i done burned up the starter

Have you got smoke coming out the exhaust? That's where you need it. I doubt you could get a hard line installed in the wrong place. Did you floor the accelerator while cranking. 60 seconds worth of cranking would probably be enough to fill the injector lines if you were floored but I doubt...

    7.3 dies at full throttle

If you leave it in park so you can rev it to 3300 rpm with only partial throttle does it still stall out or does it need to be floored? My guess is a problem with housing pressure inside the pump, or possibly some funny business going on with the governor inside the injection pump. Inside the...

U Joint Size? At Part Store Waiting!

The caps off the old U joint didn't seem loose in the yoke in the first video you posted. Get a pair of calipers and measure what's left of the old caps, the new caps, and the yoke bore. Get some numbers.

U Joint Size? At Part Store Waiting!

They give you one of the 1.063/1.188 combo U-joints by mistake? You got a pair of calipers?

    Pinion leak just started

After getting the driveshaft off I was surprised that the yoke was actually loose on the pinion shaft. You could see where the yoke and the pinion nut had actually worn into each other a little bit because of the yoke being able to wobble. Anyway all is good now, I hope. Thanks 2slow.

    Pinion leak just started

So the truck in a 1988 F250 7.3 10.25 sterling, I noticed an oil stain on the ground today under the pinion of the truck's rear axle. It's a brand new leak. I took a video of the play in the pinion here. I've read a little about this issue here and elsewhere and apparently the 1st generation...

    Hard Fuel Line possible adapters/connections

You could just use some stainless safety wire and a clamptite type tool. You could also use some stainless safety wire and just twist it until it's tight, not cut into the hose tight, but somewhat tight, and do two of them. Doesn't look as good as a clamptite tool does but two will do the job...

6.9 timing Where did the 8.5* come from

You are setting the timing at 2000 rpm and not at idle right? I have the ferret timing adapter and I have found that the best timing for me is 10 degrees. When doing a little reading about timing these engines it was mentioned that diesel fuel nowadays, because of the reduced sulfur and...

    Alternator brand options.

I have not had issues with a squealing belt on my alternator. It is a 130 amp 3g with a single driven v-belt and a second belt that drives the vacuum pump. I've got some high amp draw accessories on the truck, a winch and a 2000 watt inverter. If you put a 1500 watt 120VAC load on the...

Help with the charging system in my brother's truck?

I looked on my truck around the driver's side fender and I found 3 plugs similar to yours but not exactly, all female, that were unplugged. I don't know what they go to, they may go to nothing. They might just be plugs that get left unused at the factory depending on what accessories get...

Help with the charging system in my brother's truck?

I think your best bet is to just get rid of that low output externally regulated alternator and put in a 3g instead. There is plenty of information and write ups on different forums on how do to the upgrade if you search for '7.3 idi 3g alternator upgrade'. It was one of the best upgrades I...

Problem in wiring on truck, for trailer connection.

Sounds a lot like a bad ground. The fact the trailer works fine on other trucks though does seem to isolate the issue to your truck. Like Cubey, I have also had the flat four pass thru connector go bad on my truck. This is the part he's talking about...

    Glow plugs

Have you got a current clamp? If you do or can borrow one then put it around one of the fusible linked power wires. Even though there are two power wires, clamp the current clamp only around one wire. Current clamps can only test one conductor at a time. Then have someone turn the key to...

Throttle cable passes right over the glow plug solenoid. Is it possible the sheath on your throttle cable wore through back there and was shorting to a 12+ terminal at the GP solenoid?

    Need help: odd fueling issue

So now that it works again is the fuel shutoff solenoid sounding any different? A fast click or still a squishy click? I suspect a failing FSS like Bart does. If the problem recurs I'd test it. Test the resistance from the terminal to ground with the IP cap still on, the take the cap off and...

    Injector Pump Leak

You'll need a seal kit but if you've already got the injection pump off then you should be able to just remove that external lever that goes between the throttle shaft cam and the plunger and then unscrew the big plug that the plunger passes through. Once that plug is out then you can replace...

Is this normal glow plug wear for 8k miles?

No, the timing is 10-10.5 at idle. It is probably pretty close to that at 1500, it doesn't seem to move much as you rev it in neutral. But the timing procedure of setting the timing at 2000 rpm isn't really doable as it gets too erratic, I think it's the ferret meter pickup on the injector...

Is this normal glow plug wear for 8k miles?

Glow plugs are on a push button so they don't get used for hot starts. For starts that use glow plugs, probably 4 times a week. So around 200 glow plug starts a year.
