    Tailgate latch help

The handle of my tailgate latch broke on the passenger side. It will still unlock the driver's side. I was shining a flashlight in the hole to try to find a way to unlock the passenger side with a screwdriver or something but I don't know what I'm looking at in there. Does any of you know what...

    Step bars

Have any of you installed step bars? I've been looking into them and some say "no drill" and then some of the reviews say they had to drill. Looking for a 'No drill" set, if they exist. Help?

    Odd "ticking" noise

I've had this noise since I got the truck a couple years ago but it's very random and intermittent so I've just ignored it. It seems to be coming from the area of where my 4wd lever comes through the floor. It sounds like an old cassette player on FFW or Rewind. That ticky/scratchy sound. Any ideas?

    Oil overfill ok?

I just changed my oil and filter. I read that it takes 10 quarts. Perfect. I had a 2.5 gallon jug of Delvac so I dumped it in. The dipstick is reading high. How much overfill can I get away with? I'd rather not go back under to drain some but I will if it's important. The red line in the picture...

    Buying a spare engine?

It sounds like many of you have a spare (rebuilt?) engine ready to replace your current engine when the time comes. I'm still not in love with my truck but I guess I'll probably just keep it until I'm dead instead of starting over in trying to find my "forever" truck. So... what's your criteria...

    Battery jumper packs?

I have small lithium jumper packs in all of our cars and they are very handy and surprisingly powerful. Turning over an IDI is a different story though. And the packs to do so look pretty expensive. How many peak amps minimum would you buy?

Fuel doesn't stay waiting at the injectors?

I usually hold my manual glow plug button for 6-8 seconds and then try starting for 3 seconds. Sometimes it starts, more often I have to repeat and then it starts. Tonight, at 29 deg. and the block heater not having been plugged in, I decided to not use the glow button for the 1st starting...

    New steering gear stiff?

I had a lower seal leaking so I bit the bullet and bought a Red Head box to replace the original. It's all good except it takes a bit more effort to steer. Not so much that it's annoying, but it's noticeable. Is there normally a break in period after which things will move easier or is my pump...

Plug block heater into "shore power"?

I have an outdoor pedestal with a 30 amp. outlet for a camper. Would it be okay to use this adapter to plug in my truck's block heater? https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Plug-Adapters/Mighty-Cord/A10-3015HVP.html Will the circuit breaker still send out 30+ amps. before tripping? If so, do I need to...

    Another tire size question...

I've read here that 33" are fine on a stock F250. But is it ok to also go a bit wider? I have stock size 235/85/16 on there now (#1). I have a chance for a good deal on 285/75/16 (#2). Good to go?

    Gear indicator fix? (automatic tranny)

I dropped my steering column to mess with the ignition and didn't disconnect the gear indicator cable first. It's still attached up in there but I guess I damaged the return spring? Anyone had the instrument panel apart to know if I can get in there to try to fix this without damaging something...

    Starter button (amps)

I'm going to install a starter button (sending 12v to the small post on the fender-mounted solenoid). I grabbed 2 different buttons from the parts store. The one that I want to use says 8A. The other says 15A. Can I use the 8A one? If so, what size fuse should I put behind it?

    What is this plug for?

Any thoughts what this plug would have been used for? It wasn't connected when I got the truck and I don't see anything within reach that it could go to. Wires are a Red/White, Red/Lime Green (or yellow?), and 2 Black.

Test for ignition switch and/or neutral safety switch?

No start situation. I confirmed good solenoid and good starter. No 12v from ignition to solenoid. On top of the steering column I can see the actuator rod move when I turn the key to start. I even put pliers on the rod and tried to move the rod further. It woudn't go any further than the key was...

    Another starter thread.

I had a starter solenoid? issue which lead me to decide to upgrade my OEM? starter while I was addressing the problem. I read here about the nasty top starter mounting bolt and was prepared for the fight. I bought the recommended? Powermaster starter that I also read was easier to install and...

    Summit Racing/UPS

I ordered a new starter @ 10pm last night from Summit Racing in Ohio. Tracking says label created at 12:00am last night. Package picked up by UPS at 1:30am and left OH at 4:30am. Arrived in Buffalo, NY at 8:30am and left at 8:40am. I'll have it here in Maine tomorrow. How they do that? I guess...

    Starter solenoid(s)

Good morning. My truck wouldn't start. Solid click when turning the key. Had AAA come out and the batteries tested good so he left. Read on here about jumping the solenoid on the fender. It started. I bought a new solenoid. It looked different but I figured it would still work so I installed...

    C6 to E4OD ?

    Would it be a nightmare to fit an E4OD from a 95 F150 straight 6 2wd in the place of an '87 F250 C6 6.9IDI 4wd?

    C6 fluid change advice?

Gonna do my first fluid and filter change on my C6. Any advice on how much fluid to drain? Does the torque converter have a drain? I've heard a full drain/replacement can "shock" an old tranny and do harm? Any/all advice appreciated.

    Ford Parts Giant sucks

I used them for the first time and bought a CDR valve and gasket/tube. They arrived with no tube. Just the round gasket. They clearly show the tube when you're buying. https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-gasket-regulating_e3tz-6a892-a.html So I call them and get the 15 minute hold on the...

    Speedometer cable help

My speedometer stopped working. I pulled the instrument cluster and the cable seems to be still attached there. I was hoping to just plug that back in and be done. No such luck. I disconnected the cable at the transfer case. I tried to turn the end of the cable by hand and it snapped off with...

    CDR valve

I'm not seeing these listed on my auto parts stores websites. Are these NLA? Am I using the correct part # E3TZ-6A665-A ? (n/a 6.9 if that matters) I do see them on Amazon and Ebay. Chinese junk, I assume? Plan B is to clean/fix the old one? I haven't inspected mine yet. I'm assuming it should...

    OD worth the $ ?

So I've had my IDI for 1 1/2 years. I'm not in love with it (yet?) but I'm pretty much committed to keeping it for the rest of my time on this planet. I like the simplicity so that I can do many repairs myself. That is the main reason I bought it. I got fed up with sensors and computers and all...

    Worth fixing.

I stumbled onto this article and it reinforced why my brain chose to get rid of my modern SUV and keep my 1985 Benz and also buy a 1987 F250 IDI 4wd ext. cab. And it reminded me of how important you all are in our (motoring) lives. This is such a great group. Thank you for being here. It's a...

    Half-azzed paint job advice?

My original paint all looks pretty good but the hood paint is baked to a crisp and looks pretty bad. I don't know why the top edges of the front fenders aren't also? I don't have the $ to put into a whole truck paint job right now. And I have no experience with painting. Do you think I can do a...
