I forget the name of the winch I will have to look at it this weekend. I know they use these types on cranes. If I remember correctly it's a hydraulic winch with electric pump.
I thought about changing everything out to serpentine but it seemed like a bigger hassle than trying to find v belts.
I always wondered why my batteries would never last very long, crank speed on start was too slow and the glow plugs never seeming to work right for a first crank. I need to do this 3G upgrade.
I have a 30k lb winch on my truck so I need a little more than 100A.
I am having trouble finding...
I was dreading the worst-case scenario, failing fuel selector valve. Having never been that far under it I crawled under it to find an inline mini fuel pump that was spliced inline. I presume it was one of the prior owners. Naturally it was all clogged up. So I removed it. (I installed one...
Finally got a replacement rear tank pickup and sending unit installed. What a pain. I put some diesel in it to check the float and need on the dash. It's over full with just 5 gallons. No idea. I went around to the front of the engine to see about flow. Turn the key and wait. A little...
If my engine doesn't smoke on startup I start suspecting something is wrong.
If you want some good entertainment YouTube has videos of older locomotives doing cold starts.
My truck doesn't smoke and throw flames like that but if it did that would be very cool.
Some times when they don't...
I disconnected/reconnected this relay and tapped it a couple times. Tach started working and I got my power back. OD light/button orange again.
Checked all fuses must have reset the things that weren't working in my truck. So that's a good thing.
Drivers side fender near coffee can evap...
I had similar problem. There was a pin hole leak in the rear brake line (inside the frame) from the RABS to the back behind the front tank. I ran a new line. Pedal sink stopped.
This same thing happened to me on my trans. No OD light and it barely moves without high revs. I need the fix this too.
The buzzer might be glow plug controller? I already replaced mine with the glow plugs.
Looks like I should replace the head light dimmer switch.
The brake lights are rigged from PO into a trailer brake controller. It was a loose wire. It needs to be soldered. Must have kicked it loose with my gun boots when I was messing with the high beams.
So the main thing right now is the OD...
I've got a bunch of electrical problems that all seemed to pop up at the same time the other day when I stepped on the high beam switch to make sure I was good for inspection.
Apparently no low beam headlights now (they worked before testing high beams, high beams work though), running lights...
If the gas trucks stop delivering fuel just think of all that waste motor oil sitting there in those gassers with empty tanks.
I bought a used ATF 55 gallon drum yesterday. Thinking about getting/making a centrifuge now.
I can try the E85 and higher. The rear tank is fairly clean now. Just needs a wipe down and reinstall when I get the new sender pickup assembly. Former owner told me he would always top off the tanks with fresh diesel then add a half quart of ATF to each tank.
The E85 should absorb the water...
The thought HAS crossed my mind. Just have to admit that. I am eager to get it running again. It's still sitting upside down the flat bed until I get the parts to fix it the right way.
I understand about the gas, vac and flammables. Being that the tank is mostly "clean and dry" now I will just use that one. I've not gotten a response from Gas Tank Depot about the sender/shower head yet.
Thanks Frankenwrench.
Update: I got most of the tar crap out of the rear tank using lacquer thinner. Thank you for that. Quite painless just messy. I used dawn and water to break that and rinsed out the whole tank. Got most of the larger strainer pieces out. What's left is a lot of grit...
Update: The lacquer thinner seems to be working very well in the tank. I will order a new sending unit and get that tank back online. Thank you both very much!
Thanks Goat. This tank definitely looks like what you described. Lacquer thinner is cheap and easy it sounds like. I don't have any place to dispose of flammables so I will have to burn it all off when I'm done. I was thinking about polishing that fuel I took out to re-use it. I've got...
Yeah that's what I was hoping with the rear tank because it was the easiest one to get out. There's always the Jerry can and truck strap option though. For emergencies of course. :D
