At this time I only have a little over 600 miles on the truck.
The computer tells me I am getting just under 13 mpg. I have yet to hand calculate a tank full since I have only burnt about a tank and a half.
It is only a weekend truck used for hauling and towing. Its basically a 50%...
You and everyone in my neighborhood and at work.
I got people asking to hire me for some work with it, but since its a "Not For Hire" truck (Ahhhuumm), I can't leagally take any money for doing any work for someone using the truck.
Ah yes, I am keeping the old 97 just in case (knock on wood) any EGR or DPF gremlins appear that keep the new truck down for a day or two.
That old 12 valve is just too good to give up and to damn easy to work on.
The new truck will be a worker only and mainly on weekends, so the milage...
Picked up my new ST 4500 C&C 6-Manual 84" cab to axle. Now its over at the upfitters to get an 11' dump and a utility box installed. Mid April is best estimate to get it back.
Driving it around for the few days I had it you could feel ever little crack in the road ... that suspension is STIFF.
So I read that the new 6.7l will have Siamese cylinders (e.g. no coolant jackets between the cylinders, they are all connected down the sides), which will lead to hotspots and cylinder warpage.
Now, if this is 100% true, did Cummins loose their minds or do they think the new cooled EGR will...
I'll 2nd that comment. These were the best years for the 12V trucks. But one thing to look out for in the '98s is if the engine is a #53 block which is prone to cracking.
AMSOil
I am running AMSOil Series 30 Heavy Duty Diesel in mine.
I have just over 30K miles so far and changed to AMSOil from Valvoline at 10K ... so far so good.
I run AMSOil in my Truck as well (15W40 HD).
Very good stuff, very satisified.
I can get up to 38 lbs of boost, so the turbo is not a problem.
Now I have the gauge testing the fuel pressure at the bleader valve on top of the fuel filter.
Maybe I can compress the spring and to reduce the pressure ... but $25 for an overflow valve! Man thats cheap. I thing I'll order...
On my old '97, I streched the spring on one of Pier's Overflow valves to help with very low fuel pressure and now I run about
38 to 46 lbs of pressure.
So what do you guy guage at?
My ol' truck puts out the black smoke pretty good, but it just seem to not be as powerfull as it was only 4...
