    Dimbulbs...

Apologies, I wasn't getting notifications on this. These are nos Grote sealed truck lamps with Sylvania front turn bulbs and Chinese headlights. All leds. I plowed through all the wiring looking for damaged or cracked insulation, no issues found. But the brake switch itself wasn't working...

    Dimbulbs...

I installed LEDs everywhere about a year ago, even on the truck and I noticed the right rear lamp (single, dual action like an 1157) glowed dimly with everything off. Fast forward to recently and the installation of a hitch and 7 pin electric connector etc etc etc and, now both tail lamps glow...

rdnck, I just sit and wonder about all the cars/trucks I let go. At least 4 are down to the Ministry of War and Finance. I owned a 1967 Tornado. Red, with leather etc.

I'll have you know that's the finest mahogany plywood! Nothing but the best for my ugly truck, especially if it enhances the ugly.

Another minor head injury has led to further repairs. I removed the box, removed the hopelessly rotten rear tank, fixed anything that looked even a little suspicious and welded on a trailer hitch. Not shown is a pair of auxiliary fuel lines that will soon be connected to a discount tidy-tank...

I bumped my head this morning and was inspired to finally patch up the frame. Behold!

I musta fallen asleep... This old truck deserves better than this older guy. Fine truck.

Thanks very much for that sir. I might try a three way switch with normal, none or just the fast idle on. It's a low current circuit so a relay is overkill, but fuses and tidy looming are a must. I'll wind up with a momentary button for manual glow plugs, a single throw for the electric lift...

Thanks Nero, but I'm looking to do the opposite, switch it off once it's firing smoothly but leave the fast idle as is. I'm not looking to go booting off sooner, I have a long slow drive to the road which could be done sensibly without the advance.

Having so much advance once it's got enough heat in the pre-chamber seems like a pointless thing, no? Fast idle yes, so long on advance no.

I forgot to mention... I got all liquored up last October and got the danged fool idea to add an ounce (30mls) of acetone to the usual mix of 30mls low ash 2 cycle (marine) and 100mls diesel treat per fill. Immediately black smoke almost disappeared at WOT and most importantly my mileage...

This old buckwagon just keeps on keepin' on. Not a single hiccup all winter, mind you I've learned not to tempt fate by claiming winter is toast until at least August -- just in time fer... yep, winter again. But the old tub gets up and scampers away every time it's asked politely. I figger on...

Nah buddy, it's all good. Put 75w140 syn alone and its fantastic. Stickier, but I like it. To clarify: the clutches and bearings were excellent and the new fluid lets me sleep at night. Don't ask about seals...

Hey just how needed is friction modifier in the rear diff? (.355 LS) I'm switching to 75w140 synthetic and that should make it go slippety slip fairly well until the clutches go mental. I'm almost always on dirt or snow and ice anyways and tend not to pay attention to turns etc on paved roads...

That lens was aimed south for 20 years. I used mother's #1 polish and a grinder style buffer. The LEDs go in tomorrow.

I forgot to say... Put 5000kms (3k miles) on the Klondike 5w40 synthetic and put the same back in after getting a good analysis report. Fella that did the report said results looked more like a fairly young engine and thought I'd made a fat finger error listing it as just 124 thousand clicks...

These General A/TX are fantastic tires on this truck. Unbelievably quiet and stable. 265/75-16s, no rubbing. Note the mirror like shine on the top of the front fender. I musta worked on that for a good minute or so. Just resting up now and admiring my hard work.

What a fine machine. Last pic before a good bath and new tires.

How slow on a 10mi long 6% grade?

The last couple clicks up to where the toll both plaza used to be on the coke (coquihalla, BC hwy5) has hundreds of blast craters where rv automatic transmissions have let go. Or big rigs have burnt to cinders... Glad you got to your honey spot without issue.

Switched the gearbox and transfer case to Klondike full synthetic universal tractor juice yesterday which has really made things smooth and quiet. The truck is getting all new fluids on June 1, as well as eleventy billion new seals...

Thanks for that Rock, but the filter is on the inlet side. I routed the fuel line loosely and it certainly does look arsey versy.
