I’m starting this build thread a little late. Better late than never i reckon.
This is my 1993 F-250 XLT 7.3IDI. It had 198,xxx miles on it when i destroyed the engine. I’m not too sure why the engine did what it did. I thought i detected an extremely light, hard to hear knock for about a year...
If I can find a good set of gauges I'm just going to get new ones. Even second hand. Does anyone make the column of gauges that go up the trim on the drivers side of the windshield? I've seen them for lots of other trucks but not these. If I can't find one of those I'm just going to put them on...
More pictures are soon to come. I have another rod and piston somewhere that also came loose while the motor was running. This is just a picture of the one piston i had near by. Ill take more pictures and update as i go along. Soon I’ll have a new truck!
I have a manifold pressure / EGT ISSPRO...
UPDATE
I don’t know if i should make a build thread or keep with this one. I have been bothering the hell out of Wes @ classic Diesel Designs and he has been putting up with me very well. Ive ordered a bunch of parts. My block and heads are in the machine shop, tranny is out and I’m taking it...
I got my head studs ordered. Once I get an email back from Wes I'm going to get the turbo. Either the R&d stage 1 or wes's upgraded turbo . I would like to stick with one guy for everything. Right now I'm leaning towards wes' s turbo intake manifold and intercooler kit.
I found a cheap donor idi motor. Between it and mine I'll have a good useable base. I'm about to pull the trigger on the stage 1 turbo unless someone can change my mind. My pump is fairly new and puts out a lot of fuel. Oregon Injection rebuilt it for me and really did a good job with it. My...
Thanks for all the good information everyone. Im starting to remove the motor and tranny that is in the truck. Ill post pictures in this as i move along. I forgot about classic diesel and Russ. Ive been a long time lurker on here. Never had too many reasons to post until now. It’ll be a fun...
If i did finds cheap donor truck for the Cummins or power stroke, that would settle it then and there. If not, it’ll be the idi probably. I guess i needed to make this thread to have someone tell me that I’m not a total idiot for going that route instead of doing the Cummins or PSD. I’m about...
I agree the 466 would be amazing but that's not something I want to tackle lol. The 360 is way more within my limits but still a little far out for me because of the lack of info on it. I've seen the thread with the black f350 equipped with a 360. That was cool..
I'm leaning towards the idi...
I blew up my IDI so I’m trying to get a plan going. I’m not in any hurry to get this thing going. First i was thinking of rebuilding it. Getting some nice parts, turbo, studs and all that good stuff. I thought the Cummins swap would be out of the question because of price and difficulty and all...
Ive been looking at the duralift facet pumps. I think a lot of guys on here use em and I’ve seen good reviews. Is that a good pump? Ive only ever messed with electric pumps on old gassers and they’ve been holly / edlebrock . Ive heard the Holly’s hold up pretty good on our trucks but I’ve seen...
Thank you very much!
The filter base is standard pipe thread? i run wmo not veggie oil. I’m not an advocate for veggie oil but a lot of folks like it a lot. I stick to petroleum products though. I run Mostly a mix of 80% oil up to 20% reg. Gas or 90 oil 10 gas. If i have diesel or kerosene i...
That brass barb fits on the stainless fitting next to it, which fits the IP. That stainless fitting goes from the 1/2 x 20 straight thread ORB to standard pipe thread. I’m having a heck of a time finding the ORB fitting size though. Is it 5/16 1/2 x20 ORB Wes??
Right, isn’t it a 1/2 x 20 straight thread? I have that same fitting you show in the picture, i think i got one size too small though.. so the filter head is standard 1/4 pipe thread? I don’t care about the 90 that’s on there. I just need to put a hose barb on that and on the steel line OR on...
Before i ask, i have searched. Ive googled and ive searched some more. What in the fork is the fitting / thread pitch of the line / 90* fitting on the outlet side of the filter head? I’m installing a aux filter behind the stock filter, using the stocker as a pre-filter to the new 2mic. Filter. I...
Awesome good for you! I love my ultimate force fuge. Some guys only do one or two runs at a slow rate ( 3 gph) give or take a gallon. I do multiple. I keep running it over and over until i get very little sludge from the oil. Lettting it settle a month or two helps a lot.
I think a friend of mine has that same kind of centrifuge. Any centrifuge is an amazing piece of equipment in my opinion. Currently i have been sourcing all my fuel from airports. It’s been an interesting experience. The oil is a lot cleaner from the get go but it has a crazy amount of lead in...
There's a huge learning curve. I don't worry about heat too much with wmo. I don't touch vegi oil though. My thoughts are, if I switch to diesel before shutdown and back to wmo after the trucks warm, it'll be fine. Between the two filters and IP I would think it gets plenty hot. It would be...
I recommend it. I really do believe that a centrifuge is essential to the operation. You can't compare it to a filter. Or you can't compare filters to a fuge I should say. Even if you get a pressure operated unit. Yes, they are a little pricy but you can find a used one and it will save you a...
I put the cat filter on my truck after the stock filter. I’m using a Napa 2 mic right now. The cat # is 1r 0749 the filter base is NAPA 4770 . You will need some fittings to go from the 5/16 bos fittings to hose but nothing too crazy. I do have the cat filter on stand-by for later but since the...
I run WATF and WMO. I mix them though. There is also turbine oil, hydraulic fluid and gas / diesel in there. I centrifuge everything multiple times until I get an acceptable amount of sludge out. Not filtering will ruin your fuel system no matter what anyone says. Even if you run it through a 1...
Yeah like everyone else said, any of them should be fine as long as you get them from a reputable builder / supplier. I wouldn't mess with them if they all pop close. Remember the return cap o rings and copper washers
