I’m running a champion aluminum radiator like many in the forums and I have no cooling problems anymore. I’m running a stock turbo from a ‘93 IDIT on my ‘86 with some intake mods and a 4” exhaust.
Hey guys!
This 4.10 is up for sale local to me and I'm considering swapping it in so i get better towing capacity... (I need to move my tractor and project vehicles up to another property in the mountains)
Rear Axle 4.10 Ratio ID S156E Fits 99-00 FORD F250SD PICKUP 2940597...
Good evening IDI friends! Found a 4.10 geared rear end in my area, says it’s from a 2000 F250 would I be able to fit this up easily on my ‘86? I’ve worked on a lot of things but never swapped an axle the guys on dirt every day make it look easy… most I can think I would need would be a...
Hey OP... any resolution on this? My '86 IDI+T(ATS stock) seems to have just burned up a second set of GPS in 5 months. I also have a momentary switch that I do 10 seconds on for cold start. Only thing I can think of is bad injectors (I have new ones i'm about to install from Accurate Diesel)...
Well... after a few adjustments using the proper timing setup I'm happy to report that I was able to get consistent repeatable 8.5 BTDC on the timing meter. I think I'll leave well enough alone for now... she still smokes a bit... compression was good and the timing is correct so I'm back to...
Phew maybe that means I don’t have to open it up further but I do feel like an idiot for assuming I had the timing set up right after all the trouble I went through......... too soon old to late smart.
If this is the wrong hole I’m an IDIot and please don’t hold back on scorn....... i see now there’s another port above it that actually makes more sense based on where the spring is on the probe. So if those are 20 degrees apart then I’m 16.5 BTDC.
OK thanks guys. Now I'm curious if I was using the right timing sensor hole I didn't realize there were two of them. I actually owned this truck years ago and traded it to some farmer for an old tractor. He replaced the IP because he broke the VRV and couldn't find a replacement. I bought it...
Ok....... well now what? I adjusted all the way to the end on the slot and the meter is reading around 1 BTDC idle and -3.5 (AFTER) TDC at 2000 rpm. Still a bouncy idle as you’d expect with slow timing. What’s the next step how do I get 12 more degrees when I’m at the end of the slots? I’m...
So how would I know if the timing mark / damper is clocked wrong? I’m guessing I would need to find TDC on #1 and check the position of the timing notch on the damper? I’m at a loss here .......
Ok so if this a dumb question feel free to admonish me with implications of ignorance, but how am I to gain 31 degrees of advance? By my calc at .050” per 2degrees that’s .755” as seen by the mark I just made with a scribe, pointing to it in the photo below with a wood skewer. I surely cannot...
Thanks for quick reply everyone, going back under the hood to get ‘er done. FWIW I decided to change the glow plug wire spades to bullet ends and install 93 style glow plugs “while
I’m in there” and found #1 plug tip. was broken off... So now I’m going to run a compression test to see if it did...
I changed the IP out a while back and never could find somebody with the timing equipment so I bought one. I used the fuel line clamp on #1 and the hole on the dampener to locate the mag pickup and set the offset to -20.
Thanks Bart
Going to revive this old post in hopes somebody is out there that can sanity check me.... I finally convinced myself to buy a timing set and hooked everything up hoping to confirm that I was close on the timing, and that my recent fiddling (though it didn’t help much with the smokeshow) was...
So I used my shop vac with a 6’ length of 3/8” fuel line wrapped in a rag to plug the vacuum hose and created myself a 3/8” shop vac hose and sucked all the big chunks out, then sprayed some blaster around the threads and then sucked that out after about 20 mins so it could to do its magic. The...
That would be an interesting body swap for sure. And a FREE TRUCK that’s something that would be hard to pass up so long as it rolls, there’s tons of good stuff on there even if you don’t build it. As far as complications, there will be plenty I’m sure. Wiring is super simple on the IDI...
Thanks! I don’t know anyone around here that’ll pop test an old injector. Most of the diesel shops around here are power stroke only or Cummins only and they’re backed up for months with work, most won’t even answer or return phone calls any more. Not complaining I get it, business is good...
So hard to tell really in the years I’ve had this truck I’ve never taken it on more than a shake down joy ride or a 20 mile round trip for a bed full of fence lumber. It’s always been a hard starter and had every possible fueling issue when I got it and I’ve just been working through things...
So... Number 7 cylinder had bubbles coming out around the injector, and no matter what I tried I just couldn’t get the return line fitting to stop leaking. I thought it was a bad copper seat/seal so I pulled the injector and it was UGLY. These were “new” injectors from rockauto about 5000...
