This is my thoughts exactly. I definitely think it could be built. The question should be, are you willing to spend more trying to get it to work than the cost of a brand new F-350 diesel would be?
James
I wouldn't say " can't " but I will say that it is far from feasible. There would be alot of custom machined parts involved with a venture like that. You could completely rebuild several IDI's for what you would spend trying to get that to work.
I think it would be easier to get the powerstroke...
Believe me I understand, mine is bad enough that I can only fill up certain places. Most places the pumps put out enough pressure that you can't squeeze the handle easy enough to get it started without tripping immediately.
James
@Jesus Freak reading your comments always makes my day! :Thumbs Up keep up the good work.
On a serious note, if you decide to weld the hose barb into the fill neck. ( IT IS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED TO REMOVE IT FROM THE TRUCK FIRST!!!)
James
Mine does it on both tanks, the only way that I am aware of to cure this issue is to weld hose barb into the filler neck just below the cap and run a hose from it to the top of the tank where the rollover valve is. This essentially converts it to the setup used on the superduty trucks.

I I'm not a fan of the cork gaskets on anything, they tend to require occasionally retightening the bolts. If you over tighten them on install trying to prevent this the gasket can split and leak.
I would also recommend against the use of RTV for a trans, if it squeezes inside of the pan it...
@ROCK HARVEY If it is leaking there then the cowl drain is plugged up causing it to hold water above the level of that plate.
If I remember correctly I think you can pull the inner fender and there is a clean out for those. I don't remember for sure about that though.
James
All of mine except for 1 were bone stock except for cutting the muffler out and welding a piece of pipe in the stock exhaust.
The basic canned tunes are all for stock setup ( it sounds like you already have a better setup than me ). At worst on a healthy engine you may lose a little power on...
The Luk kit is good. I have heard recently that the throwout and pilot bearings aren't very good anymore though. Most recommend buying the Luk kit and swapping the bearings for Timken.
James
Honestly I get the best fuel mileage on the 140HP Extreme tune, you won't for the first few months because the added power is way too much fun. But once the new wears off it spools the turbo much easier so it actually requires much less throttle to do the same amount of work. After having the...
@divemaster5734 I can definitely tell you that the powerstroke adapter plate is completely different than the IDI plate. You can use anything from 83- early 94. The 94.5- 03 are totally different. I have no idea why the part #'s are the same, but the parts are definitely different.
The...
I agree with this, I have never used a TS but I currently run 2 Hydra chips and love them. Plus the guy that does the php tuning was part of the original SuperChips team that designed the first 7.3 powerstroke chip.
James
I would recommend having the tunes written for a manual transmission.
I can tell you from past manual conversion experience that it having the manual tuning will make the driving experience much nicer.
With the auto tuning when releasing the accelerator between shifts the rpm doesn't drop...
@IDIBRONCO in my experience their quality is very good. That and for us it is an in-state company so I will always try to give my business to local companies.
James
I am getting ready to order a set from this company for my 83. I have never bought coils from them but I have purchased 2 sets of superduty front leaves and have been happy with them...
Mine is full straight at the stock exit. Under normal driving I don't think it's all that loud, I'm sure that the slow drivers on the highway may disagree when I lay the hammer down and the pipe is pretty much level with their open window (but my opinion if they don't like it, they should...
My guess is that they don't understand what unmolested means. The hole cut in the air cleaner threw that statement out the window.
Then the K&N style filter without a pre filter, if it's been run like that for very long I would bet the cylinders are well dusted.
James
Did you replace the needle bearing inside the inner side of the spindle that supports the half shaft? If not reach around and see if there is any up and down movement in the axle shaft.
James
The speed sensor is in the top of the rear differential housing towards the driver side front.
That sensor is cheap enough that if I'm in doubt of its function I just buy a new one. While it is out look through the sensor hole and make sure there isn't shavings stuck on the tone ring as this...
Yeah definitely not how I had hoped this would go. It has been about 35 years since the last one we had come through like this this, so I guess I can count that as a blessing. Unfortunately we have another round coming and last I saw it had a nasty hail core coming rite over us again.
James
Well this afternoon wasn't good for my truck collection. We had a nasty hail storm come through a little after 4 and took it took out all of the storm windows on the west side of the house and a storage building. Broke the windshield in 12 vehicles 3 of which are our drivers.
