No Power to Fuel Cutoff Solenoid

There are 2 Red / light green wires coming off the switch. It appears both of these go through the firewall in the main bundle, but I only see 1 on the other side. I'm just trying to wrap my head around the routing here. The diagrams don't describe physical location much at all. Behind the...

No Power to Fuel Cutoff Solenoid

Ok, still fighting this. Ignition switch is good. I have power on the 2 red/ green leads coming off of it. However, I found 1 of those wires by the driver side battery in the big bundle, and no power there. Is there a fusible link somewhere inside? I can't get at the wires as they pass through...

Found Banks 1st Gen COMPLETE Install Packet + Paraphernalia

My N/A 7.3 IDI short bus can cruise 70 all day. I think it's geared super low... Kinda screaming at those speeds, but it gets up there happy enough. Mileage falls off a cliff over about 60 though. Flat ground I can get it up to almost 80 if I'm patient enough haha

No Power to Fuel Cutoff Solenoid

Ok, I finally pulled the ignition switch today. It feels fine. Nothing looks cracked. I can actuate it by hand, and dash lights come on and such, but no fuel solenoid, no glow plugs. Going to try a new switch still I guess, but thinking the problem must be down the line.

No Power to Fuel Cutoff Solenoid

Interesting. I'll have to start taking stuff apart and check out the switch. I don't want to fix just the issue by putting a switch on the dash and then have the rest of the ignition switch go bad on me... Interesting as well. Now that it's cold I'll see if the glow plugs kick on when I turn...

No Power to Fuel Cutoff Solenoid

So I lost power on the highway the other day. No warning, had been running great, just shut right off and wouldn't restart. On a whim, used a piece of speaker wire I found on the floor, and jumped the fuel cutoff solenoid to the battery, and it fired right up. Fiddled with the connector with no...

    No Windshield Washer Squirters

Good idea. I'm gonna roll with it till it fails again, then I'll check the relay and switch contacts, I don't remember if it was clicking before, its hard to hear with the motor running. Totally could have been a fouled up switch and I hit it enough to clean it up. Cruise control on my a4 didn't...

    No Windshield Washer Squirters

Well what do you know... Went out to check for relay sound and look at where the pump is. Hit it a couple times, and it squirted! Hadn't really tried it much since I noticed it didn't work. Maybe something was just a little plugged up, or I have a loose wire or something, but for now it seems to...

    No Windshield Washer Squirters

Ever since I got my short bus (94 E350, N/A 7.3 IDI, E4OD), the windshield washer squirters haven't worked. Anyone have thoughts on where to start looking? I assume the pump is mounted in the washer fluid tank? Is it likely dead, or more likely just a wiring issue? I don't hear any pump trying...

Glow plug relay clicking. No start

I can confirm, mine clicked exactly like this when my main power wire to the controller went bad. Don't believe your multi-meter saying there are 12V with no load, it may look fine until it tries to pull all the current for the plugs. I've been screwed by that more times than I can count with...

    CTO wire

There's no tach in it currently. Where can I tap into that signal. Doesn't need to be thay clean. Thinking I can clamp it with a 5v zener diode to drop anything over that, then counting 54 pulses / Rev should be easy even if it isn't clean, as long as it has a reasonable rising edge. I can throw...

    CTO wire

Does anyone know if a 94 e350 will have a cto tach wire anywhere? Looks like newer trucks had one coming out of a harness by the break booster. I'm building a tach from a microcontroller, and this signal would be easier to process than the raw signal off the ip. It's an automatic, so the sensor...

    Gauges Rising Simultaneously?

My grounds, and basically every wire in the thing are a hot mess. in fact, I can think of 2 ground straps I've noticed completely broken. Stupid thing needs way more electrical work than I'm willing to put in. Fought glow plugs for weeks only to find their main power wire was corroded beyond...

    Axle gearing options

That's what I was thinking too, it is a bus afterall.. I've never really even driven another diesel before, so I don't know how it should sound.. Does any one make some kind of cheap temperary tach I could use to check my rpms at least?

    Axle gearing options

I have a 94 short bus conversion (e350 based) with a 7.3 idi and e4OD trans. It feels like it is geared really low to me. No tach to really verify, I need to remidy that... It does 55-60 comfortably, but really struggles much over that, and the engine is screaming in 4th gear. With a diesel, I'm...

    Gauges Rising Simultaneously?

Following. My 94 short bus does something similar.. Any changes in the electrical system (glow plugs cycling, headlights, turn signals, etc) all make the guages move. My fuel Guage seems OK, but the temp and oil pressure definitely respond to battery voltage somehow. I'm guessing a bad ground...

    No brake boost at idle

I've heard the bearings do fail, especially from running a slightly short belt that puts too much force on it. But it's a standard sealed bearing held in with a snap ring, and easily replacec.

    No brake boost at idle

It seems like they should be serviceable..the bearings on it still felt great. Seemed like a shame to spend $100 (and I got a good deal) on a whole new unit.

    No brake boost at idle

It was only $5 of core charge, so I'm going to disassemble the old pump and see if I can tell what failed / attempt to fix it for the greater good.

    No brake boost at idle

Yep. Felt next to nothing on the old one. New was much harder to turn by hand, impossible without the pulley on and immediately made vacuum with 1 or 2 turns. For the record, I was able to fit the extractor / instalation tool without removing anything. Kind of had to reach inside the fan...

    No brake boost at idle

Pulled the vac line from the pump and sure enough almost no suck. Nothing turning the pump by hand either. Put a new pump on and she's all good to go. Real easy job with a power steering pump tool borrowed from autozone.

    No brake boost at idle

Great, so I get to muscle that belt off again haha. I'll give it a shot in the morning. Driving it 3 hours tomorrow, would rather not loose all brake boost, it's a bus and it's heavy... Do you think a junkyard pump is a good idea, or should I try to find a new one? And what's all this about...

    No brake boost at idle

Well pretty sure my vacuum pump is dying, just looking for some more sure diagnosis. Brake light has flickered since I got the truck, but brakes always felt great. Today, they started getting hard at idle. They are fine coming to a stop from speed, but if I then pump it a couple times, there's...

Glow Plug relay clicks, but plugs don't cycle

Ha! Check this out... Connection to the battery was made with 2 smaller wires crimped and soldered to the big one covered in glue,, heat shrink, AND electrical tape... Super corroded, as well as the ring terminal that was used. Cut that and stuck it on the terminal and all works well. Must have...

Glow Plug relay clicks, but plugs don't cycle

OK, manually shorting the white lead pin on the relay to ground DOES Not seem to be running the plugs.
