    DB2 Tuning Guide

Great write up! Very well written explanation of everything we went over on the phone a few months back. I know the spring he is talking about. Blacknoma had that spring fall out and get eaten inside his IP (my fault!). It's the spring that the rear adjustment guide pushes against inside of...

    New to IDI

Welcome to the forum, loser! :-P Yup Thewespaul, this is the truck we destroyed the IP on. It sure s a good runner with the new IP for sure. It was a real dog on power before though.

    2018 Texas IDI Meet

How locked in is the date? Just wondering as I work retail and that weekend is a no-go for me.

I would definitely be willing to guinnea pig that kinda stuff.

It was supposedly the IP off of the '94 that he stole the rest of the turbo setup from. I believe him because he gave me the old IP from the '91 engine also.

    Low RPM governor speed

Yes, mine wasn't right for some reason. The previous owner had a lot done to it and I don't think they did all of it correctly. Is yours a '94 turbo?

    Low RPM governor speed

So, the adjustments I made to the IP seemed to retard the timing quite a bit, it was running crazy quiet. I advanced the timing a bit more and took another test drive. This is the fastest IDI I have ever been in. Check out this video.l, I started in 2nd and went 0-60 in about 8 seconds. Not...

    Low RPM governor speed

It's hitting 15 psi from 2,600 to about 3,250 then tapers back off. Think that looks and sounds like it's well enough tuned? Used to it would fall on it's face right at 3,000rpm, so you had to short shift and the turbo would de-spool a bit. This is way better, keeps the engine in the power...

Nevermind, I went the wrong way with the nut. Back tonidling right!

    Low RPM governor speed

Oh man, I need help, lol! I pulled it apart and stretched the large spring about 1/4" longer and put it back together. Now it idles at 3,000 rpm!! I pulled the idle adjustment all the way down and screwed in the electronic idle solenoid and it didn't make a difference. Then Inipebws it up...

    Low RPM governor speed

OK, when I cut the small spring, I then turn the nut adjustment in towards that small spring to keep the idle the same? Or does that adjustment not work like I'm thinking?

    Low RPM governor speed

I really want to make an adjustment this afternoon. Thewespaul, can you clarify once again? I don't want to make the wrong change.
  16. Steven Donald

    Low RPM governor speed

Can anyone get me clarity on this? I believe the smaller spring is for setting governed IDLE speed. And the larger one is for setting governed max rpm. So... I've gotten direction to cut and stretch both of them back and forth now and I'm confused. The 6.2/6.5 spring people put in to RAISE...

Just the ring and pinion. I had I may have to change the carrier for the front going from 4.10 to 3.54, but that was for the Dana 44 version. I guess I'll find out when I crack it open.

    Coming Back - Texas

I want a vacation! Lol! Little update, I decided to go with 3.54's and 3.55's instead. 1,775 is a little low if I'm ever going to pull something and I don't want to scream at 2,500 down the highway just to pull a trailer, so the 2,160rpm or so that I will get with my tire size and 3.54's is...

I would no doubt be able to tell if the unit went through an ordeal like that, so I'm not worried about it... I'm trying to get up there the first week of April. What shop should I call to get the drive shaft shortened? The idea would be to get it done in a day...

Checked the turbo today, no play in the shaft that I could tell. However, the air filter was crazy clogged. Looked 5 years old. Changing out the filter really livened up the bottom end. Boost is at 5psi by 1,500 now in 3rd gear or higher. I'm ready for that gear vendors unit!!! What kind...

Here's a video of it at near top speed. You can see the boost gauge at the end. It seems healthy to me. What are you thinking? Also, it's on 33" tires, so 75mph is actually almost 80mph. Notice how much harder it pulls from 2,500 to 3,000...

    Coming Back - Texas

It does "roll coal" pretty good down low, so I don't think the lack of boost is from the IP or too little fuel, just the lack of air. I'm thinking about changing the intake, and I'm not sure what down pipe it has. Probably the squished factory one...

    Coming Back - Texas

Here's a video of the governor. As you see, it completely quits at 3,300, but if you're loaded, it is VERY obvious that the power starts cutting right at 3,000rpm
