Well I put the van up for sale last week :(. Too many vehicles these days and maintenance is expensive. Figured I’d give an update just for the hell of it.
Got in a bumper bender a while back and had to replace the radiator and fan. Also had to straighten the frame a tad the old school way...
Thanks for the tip! I don’t really know the collapsed length of the spring though since it snapped in half :/ I’ll have to try and get a tape on there or something to get an estimate
Thanks for the pictures!
Unfortunately I looked and my throttle return spring was actually still attached the the front mount. The unfortunate part is it was broken in half. So I don’t actually have a throttle return spring. This explains the weird spring hooked around the linkage from above...
Also more updates:
Working on making two cylindrical spacers to mount underneath the front coil spring. I got a section of 3.5” OD tube and am welding thick plate on each side with a hole on the middle for the mounting bolts. I got 2” longer bolts from fastenal yesterday so just waiting on time...
Hey guys, quick update...
Recently I installed a new trailer brake wiring kit and that worked flawlessly when I towed a u haul up to Santa Clara!
Now onto a new question:
When I first start the van almost every time it revs up pretty high for about 10-20 seconds before peaking and then...
My mistake, I misread your post and thought you said you were one of the sellers. I looked up one of their websites and it looked like a good 300$ for the set. Going to have to wait :/
On another note, took off the front wheels last night looking for a way to lift up the front end 2 inches...
I know all about that mistake. I’m afraid to ask how much you sell them for?
Viton seals and return line kit came in the mail today. At a standstill now until I get new injectors.
He didn't. The PO was a young college kid who lived in Santa Barbara. Judging from his failed attempt at replacing the power steering pump I'd say he didn't replace them in his year of ownership. The owner before him spray painted his and his girlfriend's initials on the roof so doubt he did...
Ordered up the seals. Painful getting two of the same thing but I trust the "viton" seals are a worthy upgrade to avoid redoing whatever headache of a job I just signed myself into lol
Will these injectors be at their best after new O rings? Or do they deteriorate in some other way?
You guys are giving me great advice! However, I am extremely poor at the moment lol... In a few months I'll have started my first job out of college and can scroll back through to order up all the parts out of budget. Hell, then I may even pay a diesel mechanic to do a quick diagnostic for me...
After doing research I saw that the raacor brand filters were the best. Do you know which model is recommended? That’s definitely my next investment when I sell some wheels/tires
Tint on the rear! Going to make roll up canvas on snaps that can cover the rear windows and separate the cab.
Dove in yesterday and fixed the power steering. Last kid lost the bolt holding the pump onto the bracket so I replaced those and filled it up. Found the return hose leaking so replaced...
Hi everyone, The PO of my 84 E350 attempted to swap the power steering pump and failed miserably lol. Anyways, I need to buy 3 replacement bolts that hold the pump onto the bracket. If anyone knows the size/thread that would be amazing.
Thanks!
Thanks guys for all the positive feedback!!! Van looks great with the new rear tint! I'll post a pic in the sun tomorrow. Thanks IDI Bronco for letting me know the glow plugs are working correctly. That was a worry.
Did some more poking around in the engine today and discovered two loose vacuum...
Hello everyone,
I just picked up my first diesel vehicle: a 1984 E-350 econoline with a 6.9 idi and c6. Been enjoying the fun of the van life and dove right into the project. The previous owner had build a bed platform in the back as he lived in it for a year during college. I went ahead and...
