    IDIT glow plug tools

I'd like to believe that using a 10mm socket on a nominally 9.525mm fastener or glow plug is close enough to keep me out of the "suspected user of hard drugs" and "some people shouldn't own tools" categories! (Ha!)LOL

    IDIT glow plug tools

@IDIBRONCO I see that now. I did the whole job using 10mm on them b/c seemed like a solid fit. I see why now: 3/8" = 0.375" = 9.525 mm. 3/8" would have been better.

    Motorcraft ZD-29 Glow Plugs

@IDIBRONCO This was not my experience. All my ZD-29 plugs were individually packaged.

    Motorcraft ZD-29 Glow Plugs

@tbowker "15 seconds" I didn't us a stopwatch. I was too overjoyed just to see it work. Mighta been only 11. Meter: My fluke died and I bought this China meter because it also measures large DC current (not 200A tho) at a reasonable price. UNI-T UT210D Digital AC/DC...

    Motorcraft ZD-29 Glow Plugs

@reset2 Could not find any info about the difference between then. Based on availability, it seemed clear it is Ford's standard going forward. If these fail I'll go to one of the alternate non-standard GP solutions others have documented.

    Motorcraft ZD-29 Glow Plugs

@Bart F-350 Clicking (pulses of glow) *after* a decent amount of "Wait To Start" (solid glowing) is normal I think. In my case, there was only a blink of "Wait To Start", then just clicking. The parallel resistance of the glow plugs changes as they heat up. This is how the controller...

    IDIT glow plug tools

For any who are just getting started: I love having a factory turbo IDI (VIN C / IDIT) except when it is glow plug time. Plugs 5 & 7 suck because the turbo is blocking access. For any new to this game, here's my tool list to help the job suck less: Pliers, long, curved needlenose...

    Motorcraft ZD-29 Glow Plugs

Bottom line: After 8 new (and verified) ZD-29 plugs and with a 37 degree temperature, the truck glowed a solid 15 seconds and started easily like it was a summer day! None of the old (2019) plugs were open or swollen, but they measured all over the place and two were unstable. No wonder the...

    Motorcraft ZD-29 Glow Plugs

Time to do GPs and saw the lack of ZD-9 availability and the controversy about ZD-29s, so I thought I'd try them and start a thread. I bought 8+1 from Rock Auto to minimize the chance of counterfeits. They came in individually sealed Ford Motorcraft bags. The bags say, "Made in Germany". The...

IDI Shop in Tennessee for Head Gasket Job?

Thanks for the offers to help. There may come a time I make the drive, get a hotel room, and take someone up on that offer. Hanging out for a day or two with some of the senior members of this forum would be pretty cool all by itself. I made several calls, and so far, I haven't found anyone...

IDI Shop in Tennessee for Head Gasket Job?

IDI Shop in Tennessee for Head Gasket Job? I am in middle Tennessee, just south of Nashville, with a '93 IDIT. Pretty sure the passenger side head gasket is leaking coolant. I could do this myself, but don't have the garage or concrete, so it would be more challenge than I want at my age...

Let’s make a deal - Sell me the website?

I have owned my IDIT since 2008 and this forum is my #1 source of wisdom about it. Earlier this year I asked a question and felt I got some decent responses that helped me. Whoever runs it ultimately, I selfishly hope this content and culture of helping is not lost.

    Leaking return caps

Assuming @typ4 is still kicking, I bought my last cap, hose, & o-ring kit from him and it has been great. Also, consider using the "Zicam Bottle Cap" method when installing the o-rings to minimize nicking them. Procedure is in the tech stickies.

Electrical System goes Dead at Start

Problem solved (I think): It was the Ignition Switch. Cheap fix. Thanks to all. Taking your advice about connections and grounds, plus being nagged by that voice in my head that needed to know why my starter MELTED, I dug into the electrical diagrams to locate the grounds and find the root...

Electrical System goes Dead at Start

1993 F350 7.3L IDI Vin C Turbo, 5-speed: May I please get the group's opinion on troubleshooting and possible solutions to this problem? Current Symptom: When I turn the key to start, the entire dash goes dark and not even the solenoid clicks. Can a failed alternator cause this symptom...

Headlights...I cant see diddly squat at night

IMO, step 1 is to fix the substandard Ford headlight wiring, so that whatever headlight solution you use gets the full benefit of voltage and current. The factory wiring runs all that high current headlight power through long, skinny wires into the dash, in/out of the switch, then all the way...

    Questions about Facet pump conversion

My facet, mounted in the engine bay, has been great. Got a couple of years (20K miles) on it. I did have fuel pressure warning light issues, and air intrusion issues at first. However, all of those issues were resolved and had nothing to do with the facet. In the background of all that...

    Report: Injection Pump and Injectors

@Danielle : Glad you're stoked. Bear in mind I resolved all my fuel delivery issues first. That includes elimination of ALL air intrusion, resolving a weak lift pump, a high torque starter, and strong batteries. The air intrusion thing can be frustrating. Part of my fuel line under the hood...

    Report: Injection Pump and Injectors

Report: Injection Pump and Injectors I intalled the Baby Moose pump and Moose Mister injectors from Mel @Agnem at Conestoga Diesel. Since my IDIT 7.3 has a recently renewed factory turbo with a Wicked Wheel, I barely pull anything with it, and the Baby Moose delivers only 5cc more than a...
