So I have a few things going on and I think they are electrical related. First the mileage counter , which is digital, is no longer showing anything.
Second the tranny is shifting hard. Are these two issues limp mode?
What kind of computer is on this truck? I checked fuses and don't see...
Yeh I’ve been battling mice for 20 years. Somebody dumped a cat here a few years ago but I got rid of it. Coyotes were trying to get it. Wish they’d get on the mice.
Well the reason I first asked about the fuse is because someone had jumped a wire across some fuses in the fuse box. I noticed...
I don’t do much towing. I was just taking an empty trailer to a friends house. I is a pretty large triple axle trailer. But in general I don’t use this truck to tow with. I mainly use it around here to lift stuff with the crane. That may be part of the problem. Not using it enough.
I’ve been...
I haven’t used my truck in about 8 months. Took off in it Saturday pulling a trailer. After a while I realized the odometer and Speedo were not working. Then the tranny started shifting real hard. I didn’t have time to mess with it because I was on a tight schedule this weekend. I just parked...
There’s a guy over at the lister diesel forum that runs his Benz on nothing but waste oil and gas. I don’t know what his mixture ratio is but he’s been doing it for years.
I stopped at a few oil change places and garages to try and get used oil. They all dump their antifreeze in with their oil...
Might run. I had water in the cylinders if my truck. Pulled the glow plugs and barred the engine over gently as suggested by this forum. Squirted som wd 40 in the cylinders put it back together and no problems so far.
Personally I wouldn’t trust a shop diagnosis. It might be the cdr and they could be saying rings and pistons so they can get a rebuild price then just clean out the cdr. But I’m paranoid like that. I like to try and see what’s wrong myself then if I don’t want to fix it I know what a shop would...
$30? I can’t find one cheaper then $70. Guess I’m looking in the wrong places. Lol. I agree. I like to keep things mechanical. I just did the tractor that way in a pinch. I had an electric fuel pump laying around and put it on to get it working again and have been surprised that it’s still...
Is it better to convert to electrical? I did this on a small tractor as a band aid 10 years ago which became a permanent fix. Just wondered if it would be as reliable on the road?
Sometimes it helps to ask for someone else to assist you when you run into those situations. I was at a parts store a few weeks ago getting a brake line for a Buick. I told the guy what I needed he said we don’t carry those. I pressed him further and he became quite argumentative. I went out to...
I watch a lot of government auction sites and the price of these things has quadrupled in the last 10 years. There is definitely a lot more interest in them now.
I got it back together today. I fired it up and had a slight knock at first that went away.
I think that may have just been noise from getting the oil circulating again. I drained it overnight so it was probably pretty dry and it may have taken a bit to get the oil I poured in the filter a short...
Ok thanks. Yeh I just use the crane mostly. Truck hardly sees any serious mileage.
I picked up some motorcraft glow plugs today. They are zd9-1x. They didn’t have any references to the zd9-iirc. They look the same. These were made in Germany. The ones I pulled out were made in Italy. Doubt that...
I thought about turning over with the starter but I was worried about that cylinder I couldn’t get the glow plug out of. I’m not sure if it’s clear yet but once I’m sure I’ll go ahead and spin it with the starter.
lol. I had no idea beru and motorcraft were the same. Should I put some heat...
I just wanted to add an update here.
IDIBRONCO was spot on. It was rainwater.
I was able to get at it today. I drained the oil. No water there that I could see. I unhooked the batteries. Blew off the area around the glow plugs and broke them all free. The I blew everything off again. A lot of...
I don’t think it will be rain water. It’s been covered.
Unfortunately it’s going to be a while until I can get to it. I only tried to fire it up because I needed to use the crane on the truck and I had to go a different route for that task.
I’ve been working 12 hour days seven days a week so...
Thanks guys. I’ll try taking the glow plugs out. I’ve been trying to avoid doing that out of fear that they will probably be swollen. Looks like they will have to come out either way.
I believe it is locked because the truck shakes pretty bad when I hit the e starter so I suspect the starter is...
Been sitting for a few months and I tried to start it. It made a slight revolution and stopped. I thought batteries were dead so I put the trickle charger on it overnight. Batteries are good now but still won’t turn over. How would I check for hydro lock? I’m guessing pull the injectors and...
I had trouble with a pair. Had a hard time getting warranty. Decided I wasn’t going to spend top dollar on batteries anymore so been buying cheapest I can. I got rural king batteries in it now so far so good. Third year on this set. Getting hard to start so I took them in on warranty. They said...
