The large nut riding the governor rod is what adjusts the BASE IDLE / FUEL METERING SET POINT. Back out the external linkage base idle so that it is not making contact with the stop at run idle, then make your true base adjustment by the meter set point, but a hair, like 30-50 rpms low, now use...- Leroy

After looking hard, but never finding a good answer about how to tune the DB pump, I just took one and by trial and error fugured out how to calibrate one while on the truck. This isn't the same as rebuilding a pump and calibrating it on a machine, the pump needs to at be good and run, but...- Leroy

Yeah, the stock lines are nylon on my 85, it's you know it's the same concept, plastic, I did order all new rolls of the stock size 3/8 and 1/4 and, routed my fsv out of the equation for now until I put manual valves in. I have heard that the big rig lines are nylon and work well for fuel...- Leroy

Yeah it's been raining a lot, I did look under there and there's a good mitsu starter, and a fresh looking trans.. I weren't sure if the little tube was a press fit also, I figure likely it is? I woulda had to crawl like a mud bug and remove that starter to try and grab at it and pull it out...- Leroy

It sounds like a failing fuel pump, fuel restriction, sucking air, or a failing injection pump. In order of hopefulness of what the problem is. I would recommend replacing the lift pump first, add a fuel pressure gauge and check for pressure, and flow out of the fuel filter base schrader...- Leroy

Looks like a gem. I would plug in the block heater, while it's warming up a few hours, throw a hot battery in it, disconnect the glow plug contact relay, check the oil, loosten the injector lines to purge any air, roll it a few feet out the garage, crank with the throttle to you see puddles...- Leroy

Looks like outside diameter of 1/2in PEX is 5/8 .. 0.625 this 5/8 inside diameter A1 fuel line at .625 will slip right over it with a little flare, some grease and some clamps...- Leroy

Hey, these are some great ideas, I bet they could be flared, I never have tried a heat gun, but that would be great to avoid fittings and routing up to the engine bay. Those quick disconnect o ring fittings in a few places would sure be nice too. A quick search found that PEX is the same...- Leroy

I'm gonna run entirely with PEX and upgrade the fuel pump, I'll adapt fittings where need be. I think i'll install 2 seperate, cheaper, electric fuel pumps with a filter behind, and check valves ahead of each. In case of failure can toggle the secondary pump. Is there anything else besides air intrusion ...
Also look for kinks in the fuel hose, check how bad the olives are, especially at the hard line connections from the filter base to the back of the IP. (carefully) can, in some places use teflon tape to make those chipped and cracked grommets seal out leaks. use carefully or not at all, never...- Leroy

Alright, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. For some reason I had a feeling a new stick would be required.. This'n barely fit, and if it's o'ringed and probably narrower, and apparently longer, well I'll start cross refrencing stock 7.3 parts at rockauto. Thanks- Leroy

Yes, there was alot of inconsistency on the surfaces. I used a harbor freight knife sharpening stone, if you do this, inspect every single one on the shelf for one that is absolutely flat, 95 percent are not straight and would be worse than ineffective. After resurfacing both the decks and heads, at the point where the gasket had broken, it was 'high' and tight on both sides, right there, causing a pinch point, that probably cracked the fire ring and overly compressed the gasket. sigh, I used to has all the tools. Now, I bangs 2 rocks together and make fire . No spring compressor or compound off hand, however I will at least chip off the carbon buildup and degreas 'er.- Leroy
