Normally I wouldn't. I used to get into lots of low traction situations. But what I have planned for this truck is all highway and pavement. I could put a winch on it just in case.
Thanks guys. I'm reevaluating my upcoming purchase. I want an idi because I loved my last one, but for my towing needs I started to look at 7.3 powerstrokes and early duramaxs.
Edit: I dont mean to derail this thread from idi discussion, but what's your opinion on this truck? Seller says...
Ive been trying to get back into an idi ever since I crashed my f350 last year.
I found this truck listed locally and was wondering about the oilburners opinions.
I will be using this truck to haul a one or two car trailer, and also a 28ft bumper pull camper.
The seller says the 6.9 is a reman...
Right now I'm truckless. I just sold some projects and got about $3000 together to buy a truck. Anyone have something they don't need? I know beggars can't be choosers but I prefer 4x4 and turbo. Don't really need drw. Thanks.
Some bad news with some good news.
The Bad:
I am working/living at a new company campground and we are located on a highway that is "Open Range". To all you city folk, that means all the ranchers do not have to maintain their fence and can let their cattle run free on the highway. Well, one...
I have a 1976 olds delta 88 hardtop not a convertible. The car had a vinyl roof but needed some rust fixed. Currently the old vinyl is off the roof and the bondo is sanded.
Personally, I do not know much about body work and paint. But I do know the bondo should never get wet.
The problem is...
If it is hard to start after the block heater was running all night, something else besides your glow plugs is wrong.
The engine should jump to life without waiting to start if it has been plugged in all night.
Maybe air intrusion? Check for wet fuel return lines.
After I made sure my glow plugs were in order and return lines didnt leak, I bought two new batteries, cleaned up all grounds and lugs and bought a Powemaster starter.
That was a year ago and I havent had a problem starting since, I get down to single digits Fahrenheit. To be honest my starter...
Had me stumped for awhile because everything check out good with a volt meter. Noticed the ground strap getting hot. Took it off, wire brushed and starts just fine now.
I have a MF 30b industrial tractor. It has been sitting for about 7 years. Last month I had the starter turning the engine over. I dont have the key so I was jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver. Today I tried to do the same thing and got one click and now nothing. Before I look for a new...
Stopped one more night in Winnemucca, NV. But now were are home in Oregon!
The truck handled the trip like a champ. I owe it all to this forum and all the members here. And I guess ford and IH too. Without you all I wouldnt know a glow plug from a spark ha!
I really think my truck is in better...
Luckily it rained pretty good once I was back on the interstate. I wiped her down with a rag best I could but yea I still need to hose out underneath. My dog is CRUSTED!
I took yalls advice and got a little off the the interstate.
I dont know how this happened. Most likely just high speeds and high wind. A little gorilla tape and Im back on the road. Anyone have any guidance on a permanent fix to connect the filter to the turbo with something better than...
I was wondering what was going on in your photos. Ghost towns. Cant say Ive ever been to a true abandoned ghost town. Looks eerie but fun, somewhere you dont want to be at night. And yea better have some firearms handy.
Before we left Nebraska we ate at Thunder Road Grill in Grand Island, NE...
If Texas is land of IDIs, then Pennsylvania is land of 2017 Silverados and Oregon is land of the Cummins.
I saw a bullnose today but it was a road workers parked truck.
Had quite the experience last night.
We drove until midnight. Our app couldnt find a free campsite but the website "campendia" found one called Tooley Park near Grand Island, Nebraska.
We pulled in and it looked like a great camp spot, had the place to ourselves and it was on the Platte River...
Still waiting to spot another bullnose on the road.
Last night we spent the night at a friends house in Carmel IN.
Right now we are grabbing diesel and food in Williamsburg, Iowa. Going to refuel on an energy drink, see how far I can drive and when I start to get sleepy we will use the app to...
Its as if your watching us haha.
Keys stay in the ignition, purse on the bench seat.
No one is reaching in, my dog practically lives in this truck and gaurds it so.
On top of that, I doubt someone could find the push button start, hidden glow plug switch or shifty neutral safety switch. My...
