Cant get new block heater in!!

I got a $20 onboard charger from HF instead. (but it doesn't get too cold here) I'm going to install a 30A power inlet on my bumper. Circulating tank heater (2000w) plus oil pan and trans pan heaters and onboard charger. All very cheap. Toggle switches will let me choose between 500w or 3000w...

    RED DYE DIESEL FUEL

Another important fact - the tanks on many newer vehicles cannot be "dipped"! I have a 2004 F350 that was sitting for a while full of diesel fuel. I wanted the fuel for something else so I tried to siphon it out. It's nearly impossible to get any sort of hose down through the filler neck...

    RED DYE DIESEL FUEL

I was only speaking of Oregon. They DO NOT regularly check tanks here, ESPECIALLY in private vehicles. Yes, they do check in some communist states. Anybody driving a diesel into commiefornia should expect to be guilty until proven innocent. Yes, they may check tanks on very rare occasion when...

Taking the dye out of farm fuel?

You are incorrect! I was specifically referring to Oregon, it varies state by state. A cop cannot just randomly check your tank without your permission anymore than he can check the interior contents of your car. Just because a door is unlocked does not mean the officer can open it and search...

    RED DYE DIESEL FUEL

Yes, I understand everything about the related chemistry of the dye. I don't understand how your question is related to this thread in any way? The color is indeed used as a visual indicator. If color suggests further inspection is needed, then the fuel can be further tested to confirm or deny...

Taking the dye out of farm fuel?

Some states apparently do check, but if you are a private citizen, you must first grant them permission. Kind of like when a cop asks if he can search your vehicle for drugs. If you have drugs, of course you say "NO!". But a lot of people think they can only say "yes sir" when asked for a...

    RED DYE DIESEL FUEL

Not true. Been an Oregonian my entire life. Never heard of anyone ever getting their tank dipped. EVER. They might check commercial trucks, maybe. Not sure how anybody could rat you out unless you went bragging about it and pissed somebody off, private people are not allowed to dip your tank...

    Looking for 7.3l wiring harness

I don't understand why people think they need a "harness" for these trucks. I just got my new harness in the mail today - it's a big roll of wire, a bunch of solder/crimp connections, and some heat shrink tubing. Also all new switches and relays. Vehicle wiring does not get any simpler than an...

Is there that much difference in fuel?

You sure the one with the lower MPG doesn't have some percentage of biodiesel mixed in? It has less BTU per gallon. Here in Oregon 5% mix is mandatory, but it's not uncommon to find stations selling 20-30% bio mixes. If somehow the fuel being dispensed from one station is a higher temperature...

Potential IDI owner dropping a line

I'm with you on that. I paid $700 for my '83 and it's in better shape than that. And it came with 60 gallons of fuel! 4x4 too. OK, it is missing the tailgate. But I've seen several more for under a grand, and, in fact, I plan on buying at least two more to keep as running spares at that price...

    Fueling up today.

That's funny, I can't get my '83 past 72 mph on the GPS. LOL My throttle still isn't opening all the way, but I'm getting a good 15-16mpg with it floored all the time. This thing would be killer with an OD trans and lockup TC.

    Power is Power, Right?

The big difference when we are talking about pickup trucks is gearing. A million ft lbs of torque at 1200 RPM is cool, but if you only have 3-5 gears, it's not all that useful. In a big truck 10 speeds is considered low. A V8 helps make up for the lack of gears in a pickup truck. An inline 6...

    Power is Power, Right?

No, definitely 400hp is not 400hp. I've spent countless hours researching putting a 5.9 in place of a 6.0. The consensus is, to get the same "performance" from the I6 you need more horsepower than a comparable V8. The V8 revs faster and higher. Cummins red line is super super low. They have a...

Potential IDI owner dropping a line

I'm totally not a Ford guy but I bought the F250 anyway just for the IDI. Seems like even if something is wrong with it you can usually get them to run and drive home if you have enough batteries and ether. :D The transmission options are pretty reliable also. They run on almost any liquid oil...

    7.3 starting issue...

You really need to stop arguing. Your suggestion is no better than mine. My suggestion is no better than yours. They are both work arounds - AKA hack jobs. It is however nice to have a "crank" button in the cab for various reasons, but you don't need to install one if you don't like it. The...

    7.3 starting issue...

If somebody is unfamiliar with the truck they won't push the button. And it would only move if it was in gear. Starter power alone is not enough to hurt anybody. Also a momentary button stops spinning when you let go. If you totally disable the NSS however, the vehicle can start with engine...

    7.3 starting issue...

It most certainly is. If somebody who is unfamiliar with the vehicle gets in and tries to start, it will not. They have to ask for directions to get it to run. If you simply bypass the switch then nobody else in the world is ever going to know it is bypassed. It also works as a kill switch if...

    7.3 starting issue...

This also makes it so the vehicle can start in any gear without having to push an extra button, which is unsafe. The "push to crank" button is also nice if you ever want to turn the engine over without starting, say, to prime an oil filter or bump it over for whatever reason. I know, I...

    7.3 starting issue...

Well, it's not really a fix but a simple work around if you can't figure it out: Just wire a momentary push button from a constant 12v source to the starter solenoid. Turn the key to "run" and then push you new start button to crank. That's what I did in my Jeep after I found out a new NSS...

    3inch Stacks?

It's also pointless and annoying in a thread where a guy wants to install stacks. PS - I've got nothing but compliments about the exhaust that dumps before the rear wheel on my newer truck. No "ribbing", lots of jealousy from the gas powered guys.

    Throttle cable adjustment?

Here is a pic of the pedal at idle, you can see how much farther it sits down than the brake pedal. Are they really supposed to be even?? The metal arm doesn't look bent but I don't know what it was supposed to look like to begin with. Starting to rethink my hate for drive by wire...

    3inch Stacks?

I like the smell of pure unburned diesel too...but most other people on the road not so much. No reason to give diesel guys a bad name if your rig happens to be extra smokey or stinky from something like waste motor oil, stacks are the more polite thing to do in those cases.

    7.3 starting issue...

Even a manual should have a NSS, but I'm not sure where it's located in your vehicle. Might try googling for that. Otherwise, could it be a problem with the ignition switch?

    7.3 starting issue...

I'm not really a ford guy but that sounds like a neutral start switch problem. Try putting in neutral, does it start? If not, try running it though all the gears a few times. I've had exactly the same problem in a Chevy and a Jeep.

    3inch Stacks?

Even if they don't smoke pretty much all IDIs stink unless you enjoy the smell of diesel fumes. (And I do, most don't) Stacks get that up where nobody is sitting.
