    engine swap in the rain!

To pull a ZF5 with an engine attached you need to remove the shifter to clear the cab, and it's still a bit tight.

Slant nose (80-86) cab, doors, front clip

I might be interested in the mirrors. Are they nice wide panoramic view or the zoomed way in can't see anything view like the repops? Tach?

    Speaker sizes

I had to trim the door openings slightly to get 6.5" Alpines to fit. What's this talk of rear speakers? Never seen a Supercab or Crewcab with them factory.

    Wrapped pipes, rust?

Anyone have any experience with wrapped exhaust pipes rusting out or life vs unwrapped? I wrapped the pipes for the new turbo I'll be installing soon for two reasons... Hopefully to maximize performance. Also to reduce heat in the cab, as my current turbo the pipes are not wrapped and a...

    Westach dual gauges?

I also dislike anything obstructing visibility. It was a compromise to be able to see the critical gauges quickly and easily without cutting up the dash. Visibility around the pillar is not terrible, far less obstruction and no actual blind spot like any new car I've been in or driven. They...

    Westach dual gauges?

I had to cut the top and bottom off the 80-86 A pillar trim and use the center I cut out of a 93-97 triple pod trim piece (Glowshift). I first used a few spots of superglue to tack the parts together, then used fiberglass and epoxy resin on teh back side, and finally plast-aid over the top side...

    Westach dual gauges?

Installed the pyro+boost and oil+coolant a while back but finally wrapped it up with voltage gauge and got the lights wired up. Got a long night drive towing ahead of me for vacation and need to be able to see the pyro.

    Fuse+relay box?

I got self resetting breakers in the mail, nowhere local had them. I think it's a reasonable use for them. Box is very accessible in the event of some major funky short. Install thread here: http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?77516-Fuse-Relay-box-install-for-headlight-relays

    Suspension is shot!

I've seen '85 with D50. Always thought 86 was the changeover year for D60, unless it was a mid '85 change.

Fuse/Relay box install for headlight relays

Headlights are in, and are extremely bright compared to the sealed beams, so far as I can tell from shining into the garage with lights off. If it's not raining after dark I'll aim these tonight. I believe what I'm looking for is a 4" drop from center of each headlight 25' back from a wall. I...

Fuse/Relay box install for headlight relays

I got the box and most of the parts from Waytek Wire. They have minimum quantities on most things, like the connectors and seals. Not a big deal as you'll need a bunch and after using these types of connectors you'll be opting to use them for most future projects. I got this wrapped up. Seems...

Block oil squirters..how they do that??

Sounds like my 86 is most likely press in. Have been debating pulling engine to freshen up and reseal when I swap my ZF5 in and go to a different turbo. May not be worth opening pandora's box if this could end up being a show stopper if damaging oil jets or unable to reinstall. Can the early...

When did the 6.9 change from press in to bolt in?

Fuse/Relay box install for headlight relays

I wanted to to upgrade my headlights with relays and an H4 conversion. Got some Cibie reflectors and Phillips bulbs but debated which way to go for relays. Ended up getting a Bussmann 15303-2-2-4 RTMR. I like how tiny it is yet fits 5 relays and 10 fuses, plenty of room to add more later. Almost...

    Fuse+relay box?

Went ahead and ordered this RTMR a little while ago along with wire, connectors, terminals, plugs, etc... Along with Cibie ECE headlights and Phillips Xtreme vision 130+ bulbs and ceramic H4 plugs. Got a Cibie 7" round headlight and made up a harness and relays for my bike and am absolutely...

    Pyro probe question

It's pretty close to the ports. One side is direct into the casting, the drivers side goes through a crossover pipe. Wrap the crossover pipe and I think it'd be fine. Once I get swapped over the the late style Banks up pipes I can compare the locations. The system came with a pyro and probe, and...

    Drive Shaft info please

Amazed you found a yard with a straight undamaged shaft. Around here everything is forked so things like drive shafts are always destroyed. I paid around $700 for a new two piece shaft years ago with all spicer parts and joints, if that helps.

    summer/pre rally upgrades....

If you decide to go 4x4 I've got a dually D60 I've been tripping over for a while and not sure I'll ever do anything with.

    Banks Sidewinder wastegated rebuild?

Well that stinks, the turbine wheel is cooked on this. If that's not available anywhere except through Banks, I'll not be using this turbo. I like the hot side up pipe layout though. Relatively short as compared to early Banks and Hypermax, no loose connection slip joint issues like the ATS/Ford...

    Banks Sidewinder wastegated rebuild?

Or, silly question... Dimensionally how do the early non-wastegate and late wastegated Banks turbos compare? Think I could use the non wastegated Banks turbo on the truck now with the new hot side pipes? I believe they're both a T3 flange. Would eat into resale of my slushbox setup but is...

    Eaton, Auburn, Yukon or Tru-trac

Personally I've done lunchbox lockers before and don't mind them, but when I put a locker in my IDI I'll want to swap to long pinion gears so I'll go to a new carrier. Torn between Detroit or Yukon Grizzly. I would not do a posi. Too heavy of a vehicle to last, I've had TrakLocs before and they...
