    boost

Boost doesn't make horsepower fuel does. Boost supplies enough air to burn the fuel you put in the engine without smoking and it helps reduce EGT. High boost without additional fuel reduces power. Jim "99 ISB in a motorhone.

    camper disapointment

You only have 175 horsepower at best at the rated rpm. You might not be comfortable at 3000 rpm or more but I can assure you your engine will be. If you saw a horsepower X rpm chart for your engine you would be surprised how little horsepower it actually makes as you start down from 3000. I...

    Another AT542 question

I don't want it to stay in 4, I want it to downshift to 3 when the pedal is at 0 throttle without me having to manually shift to 3. I have done some more research and it seems likely what I want it to do can be done. We are leaving for a week trip Thursday to Eastern Washington so any more...

    Another AT542 question

Do any of you have any technical knowlege of how the shifting is controlled on this transmission. Not the manual gear shifting with the shift lever but what controls the downshift from 4-3 when pushing the throttle down. I am curious if that shift signal is electric. If it is I would like to...

    Allison AT542 Torque converter

BD Diesel Performance has one they say has a stall speed 200 rpm lower than stock. I am considering one so I can have a at least partly effective Pac Brake in my motorhome with a ISB Cummins.. They build them in-house. They are located about 40 minutes drive north of me in Abbotsford, BC, Canada.

    installing tranny coolers and gauge

You will get varied ideas where it should go. I believe what you want to know is what is the temperature of the fluid as it goes into the working parts of the transmission. If that is what you want to know then the pan is the logical place. Jim

    Best 6.9 N/A Muffler?

When I was NA I built a 3" dual all the way to behind the duals system using Flowmaster 50 series. It was so loud it would rattle windows and give us a headache. It was TERRIBLE. It took 30" long round truck mufflers from NAPA behind the Flowmasters to get it quiet enough we could listen to the...

    Cat 3208 in a Ford

Why ruin a nice truck just to be different. After you do all the work and spend all the money to do the swap the truck likely won't be worth as much as it is now and for sure it will drive way worse with the extra weight on the nose. I am very familiar with the 1160, I worked in a Ford dealer...

    6V71?

The modern light weight diesel engines that are used in light trucks today are capable of making more power than you can possibly use with out the weight or having to butcher the truck all up.Cummins and Izuzu can both make over 1000 hp if you open your wallet far enough. One of them in a Ford...

    Kerosene?

Back in the early 70's (I'm old) I had a 4-51 GM diesel in a 53 Ford 1/2 ton PU. Ran it on stove oil for 7 years. Smoked too bad on #2 Diesel. In this area #1 diesel, stove oil, kerosene, and jet A come out of the same tank. Its all refined to the jet A spec which is the least sulphur and the...

    pyrometers..

Hypermax says you can run a 6.9 - 7.3 IDI "All day long" at 1250 EGT. There is a lot made out of the fact that supposedly aluminum melts at 1250 degrees. That may or may not be true for the alloy used in pistons but one BIG thing is always missed in the discussion. The gauge we are talking about...

    My New Intake Pics

Looks nice but why go to all that trouble and still pull air into the engine that has been heated by passing through the radiator. A air source that has not gone through the radiator will give you air that is cooler thus denser so will give more power and the cooler air will translate to lower...

    Quick turbo question

To clarify, the guy with the 5.9 that is getting 120psi boost I used the term "compound" That is when you run the exhaust side of one turbo into the inlet side of second turbo. Same on the intake side. The guy has spent thousands of dollars on mods to the engine. The head has been O-ringed...

    steering damper?

DO NOT try to get that slop out with the mesh screw. You will bind the torque rod inside the gear and you will have one weird driving truck. If you try tightening the mesh do it with both front wheels off the ground and with the engine running slowly turn the wheel back and forth past center...

    steering damper?

More than likely the problem is inside the steering box. Our steering gears are known to have poor, loose fitting ball bearing in the recirculating ball sector shaft. Start your truck and with it idling have someone move the steering wheel back and forth until the wheels just start to move...
