E4OD blues
I had similar issues, especially the recurring VSS code, turned out to be the PSOM as well, I was able to find a shop that rebuilds instrument clusters and they got it right for not much money. I believe they found the leaking capacitor issue on mine when they got into it.- DavidS

I'll have to ask my trans shop about measuring the rail pressure, thanks for the suggestion! I feel your pain with the challenges on the electronic side of things with these transmissions. Definitely had me searching manual trans swap on this forum a few times!- DavidS

Yes I can feel TC lockup. I think it occurs between 2 and 3. Unfortunately sometimes the TC lockup will go in and out at some around-town speeds so usually i drive with it off until I hit the highway. So I called a diesel injection specialty shop near me to ask about checking the timing on this truck. He wasn't much interested in the timing issue. After describing my situation he recommended a rebuild on the pump, which they do in-house. He said i was just compensating for the decreased "hot"...- DavidS

I do not know the answer to either unfortunately. Back when the rebuilt engine was going back in, I had to make a call on the doing anything to the trans. The TC looked "newer" and the fluid looked good so I just put it back in since I was running low on funds. The FIPL was adjusted until it...- DavidS

That's good to hear...certainly I want to do it right when the time comes so I will be saving up for sure. The only worry in my mind is the guys at my trans shop tell me don't wait until it completely fails, the rebuild will just cost more...Have to time it right I suppose.- DavidS

As a follow up to this thread and just for the sake of sharing, this engine always had a "pulse", especially when hot. The shop that had installed the IP after the rebuilt engine went back in assured me that they got the marks lined up between the IP gear and the cam gear. After chasing my tail...- DavidS

Good reading above. I'm two years into my 94 f250idit e4od...so far it has rebuilt motor (came with a locked up motor), currently working through e4od codes...and so much more to do. E4od acting up
I chased this for a while, and I hope writing about this doesn't jinx it, but currently it seems to be fixed. Definitely scan the codes if you have not done so. Mine was 29 which is insufficient VSS signal. I replaced the rear end sensor immediately with no effect. After a wild goose chase...- DavidS

@gandalf, just read the tech article you mentioned above, thanks for pointing me there. Definitely makes me want to go ahead and replace the FIPL. But aside from that the inconsistent voltage that the shop was seeing was on Wire A in the tech article, signal in to the FIPL, resulting in a...- DavidS

Replace blown 94 id I turbo
The crank is also different between turbo and NA, it is balanced differently to account for the heavier rods and pistons in the turbo. I just went through this on my truck.- DavidS

Anybody have a source for these? I'm in the position I think other's have found themselves in where the vp gromemet that came in the rebuild kit is too large for the oil drain.
