Any one know of a good place to post these to reach the people that know what they are. I know EBay but I cancelled my account and refuse to go back there.
Any other options?
Only bad part of the IDI is the packaging..
Sorry all I am die hard GM but cant argue with the International 7.3 IDI. Built like a tank. Cheap and easy to work on.
Parts are super cheap. Decent power is attainable.
Got nothing bad to say about the Navistar.
powerstroke- too expensive for...
Exactly.. Just odd wondering what his plans were. I am certain he was aware of the cooling needs for these and need for lube. I just don't have a clue.
I posted em up locally to get them sold now that I have done my research.. No one in my family will ever use them so no reason to let them...
I believe you have some misconceptions there. Some things are easier to work on the inline 6. Some are definitely not easier. Don't let simply pulling the head make your decision for you.
We really need to know how much weight you are pulling and how often you expect to pull that weight to...
That's about what I have been finding..
Still seems odd that my grandfather had them stashed away. Not a mechanic in any way shape or form. This was the only tool/part that wasn't for woodworking or building.
None that I am aware of recently But Cummins himself did a dry sump in the early 1900s so he could lay it on its side in a race car.. its gotta be possible but I don't see a reason for it personally.
Appears to be a reman unit straight from Bendix. has paperwork and some gaskets along with some fittings in a plastic bag. I have no reason to think these were ever used after the reman.
Odd find today going thru grandfathers estate. he was a carpenter. Not mechanical at all. had 2 new in box tu-flo 501 compressors. Not sure what he was going to do with them. To be honest I am not sure what ii am going to do with them..
They are not as rare as you would think. Seen many of them from the early 90s and on. the 5.2 came in half tons, blazers and so on before the 6.5 came out.
Thanks. Just trying to get the guy to be reasonable on the price. Looking forward to getting another older truck . Hard to find since every high school kid cuts holes in the bed for stacks and adds holes for every stupid bolt on you can find...
thanks for the help so far. Hope to be posting...
Well its gone. But I found a 1993 extended cab 4x4 with a 6.5 and a nv4500. Guy just wants too much for it. But maybe he will see the light and be reasonable.
When did gm switch from a manual pump?
Exactly what I said.. Under direction.
Just saying that people do pull motors out of Humvees for no reason. Some civilians made he same swap for more power but I cannot speak about how they went about it.
Yes so no PMD, but are there any other major issues to worry about. What year did they switch from mechanical to electric pump?
My family has owned 3 of them and never had any major issues. But I thought it was worth asking about first.
the 2 trucks I found were 1992 and 1994, Both 1 tons with low miles. So I guess they are prone to block issues.. I knew about relocating the PMD, and know these aren't powerhouses, but I don't tow more then 3000lb very often. Maybe 5k at the absolute most a couple times a year.
