I'm working R@D on a furnace and the exhaust gasses are really hot. 700°F+ so I'm concerned about a requirement that no component emit in the visible spectrum. I could go with Stainless but that stuff is expensive and I'm thinking if I just use diesel exhaust tubing I'll be well within the...
I'm thinking of buying an old Kenworth as a toy hauler and am curious about the availability of parts.
Its a 50s vintage vehicle, in great shape. has a reman 350 small cam cummins engine. Which I'm not sure is original equipment 5/4 transmissions. Its a W900
In any case I've picked the...
So yeah, I've been toying with this truck for years and I just don't have time for it anymore. The fuel pump went out last time I drove it and I just don't have the time anymore to keep up with this thing.
Its a 91 F250 lariat

I had one on the truck when I got it, it died pretty quickly, say within a few hundred miles. Got one off ebay for about $400 and it lasted about a split second longer than the first one. Fixed that one by repairing one of the solenoids, lasted about another hundred miles and died again, this...
Sad to say I'm getting used to it. This time I was on the highway and the moment I switched tanks it died. I flipped it back to the other tank but to no avail. Both tanks were full, the forward one of bio-diesel the other of clean filtered motor oil. Thing shut off like a switch. I got it off to...
So I'm going to be replacing and upgrading my suspension to accommodate this huge fuel tank I've installed. It weighs about 400~1900 lbs depending on how much fuel I've got on board. and it sits directly in the back behind the cab where everyone else puts bed tanks. So I thought it best to...
new carrier fuel pump
rebuilt ( or is supposed to be ) IP
checked and rebuilt the glow plug wires
checked and rebuilt the wires going to the fuel shut off solenoids
new glow plugs
new injectors
fresh fuel
Got rotation
sorta it coughs and sputters but won't fire.
So this is...
So that truck I built last year, runs, more like screams down the highway. Needs a new front end, which I'm about half way to completing but that thing gets up and goes.
the issue is starting it. The glow plugs click asynchronously and it sounds like its only firing on one cylinder for ten...
So I've been driving that old truck of mine I rebuild for a short while now, maybe two months. Here's what shakes out.
the rebuilt steering gear box probably wasn't rebuilt at all, it wasn't even remotely adjusted when I got it and it seems to not want to hold an adjustment. I'll try again...
Just picked up one of these vane pumps off Ebay for $50 and I'm wondering what its best RPM range might be. I've got two 1/3 hp motors I want to hook up to it and so I get a choice of gear ratios. I'm inclined to think about 2:1 would work fine. The motors run at 1750 so I'm thinking the pump...
OK so I've spent the last 2/3 days trying to research how to tune my IP pump... Its been a challenge to find a step by step description of the process. So for all those other folks who have IP questions how about we try and put together an IP pumps for dummies thread.
I'm the perfect guy to...
So my ignition switch dies on me right, Ok so its not the actual cylinder. Great. So I tear into my column and find that the two bolt holes are plugged with bolts that have sheered off. NO prayer in hell of getting a puller on it.
so whats the trick, do I cut it off and just replace it ? or...
got a fuel leak off the small rectangular connector on top of the fuel filter housing. I kinda bunged it up when I removed it and if I can identify it I might be able to replace it
Thanks guys
Dan
mine has a small rectangular sensor right were this ones has that brass looking plug at...
well after months and months of being in pieces spread out all over the shop I finally got the old POS running today. Second times a charm, seems you kinda have to actually connect the glow plugs to the electricity if you want them to help you out any. Did lot of clicking when I turned the key...
I've got a 90 F250 4x4 XLT lariat 7.3 diesel and I just put some headers on it. Was a whopping pain in the ass. Now I'm just going through and cleaning up all the little stuff and I notice there's not a snow balls chance in hell that Dipstick is going back into the same location. Hudini himself...
Might be a completely stupid question but I've got a 24 volt pair of motors on something I need to run while the trucks running on a 12 volt setup
so if I add a 24 volt alternator can I ground it to the same frame?
and can I run the motors directly off the alternator? no batteries, no...
Hi guys
I'm working on the last few details on my 1990 F250 xlt Lariat 4x4 diesel 7.3
OK I'm replacing the steering gear box and pitman arm
I got this box from this site...
Headers don't fit, Ford and two long time veteran diesel mechanics all said that the oil cooler its hitting is standard equipment on the 7.3. Stan's says there's no way there header doesn't fit, never had one not fit before. Ford says there's no way the oil cooler isn't factory. Two diesel...
91 F250 7.3 diesel XLT Toboggan ( worst snow truck I"ve ever owned )
OK people I collected a pile of parts and its time to start dismantling stuff, question of the day is "if I don't want to take the coolant system apart what wrench would I use to get at that last bolt on the injector pump...
OK so I just received a set of Delphi injectors for my 91 7.3 from "The Diesel Store" and they didn't specify the BB designation on the package anywhere, so I called them. They said the difference in specs was so minor that they now just make a universal injector.
Should I return them and go...
Crazy as it sounds my 91 Ford 250 with the international 7.3 IDI diesel in it overheats, when its off. I run it for a while till the temp guage says its warm and when I shut it down and wait for say 20 minutes it wont start, temp goes to the top and its got all the signs of classic overheating...
I'm working on an idea and thought that maybe if I think aloud I might nip some potential errors in the butt before they get the better of me
Ok so I want to heat oil as a kind of preconditioning for the filters in my WMO system
I've got a number of filter mediums all of which would benefit...
Ok so the filter stuff isn't attached yet but thats cause it still needs paint. I'll post more once I get the whole thing together and it will make a lot more sense then.
oh and some advice on an inline oil heater to aid in the filtering process. I could rig an exhaust bypass to something...
So I found an old dead Ford hiding in the backyard of a friends place. I was working on his house but by the end of the day we were working on some brews. So I asked about the ole dead truck and I seamed to hit a sore spot. "Wont run" was the rather gruff response. Naturally I piped in with "its...
