anybody want to trade a PSD for an IDI?

I don't know if this post will show up. Anyhow as you may know I went to a 95 F-Superduty PSD best move I ever made now I'am looking for a lower kilometer F-Superduty or F-450 if I can find one. The IDI doesn't even come close to a PSD for powerwise would I go back to a IDI probably not...

Finally looking at buying a tandem

Now I'am looking for a Ford LT9000 or a old Kenworth W-900A if I can find one after looking at the price of new F-450 4x4s for 46 grand I think a bigger truck is a better option.

    Locker rear end

Travis saved me some money I know I won't be running a locker in the diff of my truck.

    Ouch...just, ouch

I'am not surprised thats allot of mileage for a truck hell a truck with that many B.C. miles would have been long retired and parted out.

    Gonna ask again...

I have one but shipping it to you would prolly cost more than the part is worth.

    Upgrade questions

The old 400 Cummins is good they are so so on fuel the 13spd transmission works good behind them. They are pretty much good for 400hp I wouldn't want to-go much more with one. You do know the old Cummins are really blue belchers so if you want to use this for a RV make sure you get used...

    Truck camper length

You really have to watch campers I have a feeling you will have power steering. You may even have problems where the truck will see saw on the rear axle and if one of your rear brakes grab a little better than the other it may steer your truck. My neighbours down the road have a real nice...

    7.3 IDI vs 460 EFI

I had a 88 F-450 with 11' dump with 460 power it loved gas but it would run circles around my 89 IDI. I had 9000lbs of gravel on my 88 it carried it like nothing the engine never powered out. Most F-450s with 460s had the 4:63 gearing the IDIs came with 5:13 gearing. My old IDI wouldn't...

    Hard Decisions...

Gotta do like what Goat Boy did and suffer with Dodges quality if you want pulling power or do like I did and buy a PSD. Actually its the best move I ever made the PSD makes me :D The PSD has more power I'am not a power junky so I doubt I will be chipping or trying to boost the power it...

Occasional Voltage Gauge flux when headlights on

I had what you described with the 89 I had a brandnew alt and regulator never did figure it out. I never did have any troubles with it I was told thou that some regulators were faulty and didn't work with the alt. If I run the batteries down ie using the headlights the flickering pretty much...

The old IDI is gone tommorow (sept 01)

Well the old truck is gone I hope it works out fine for the new owner I'am glad I got the money (4500.00). I can get a hoist and start building a dumping flatdeck for the 95. I have a feeling there will be a decent amount of work hauling construction debris. There is one developement that is...

    New member, new truck

The oil fields are tough on trucks they see pretty good abuse just like trucks see that get used in the Forest industry here.

The old IDI is gone tommorow (sept 01)

The guy that wants to buy my truck is paying me tommorow and taking it home with him. Little sad to see it go but the 95 is nice to drive I can sure feel the difference between a 89 and 95. The 95 has 124,442kms (77,319 miles) less on the clock. I hate to say it the PSD has more power and...

    A IDI whoops on a 6.5 Chevy

I was heading home after work and I got behind a laundry service truck its a Grumman Olsen van its a 1.5 ton. I know its powered with a 6.5 the way it sounds (marbles in a tin can). I got behind him at a flat stretch before a 11% grade he couldn't keep ahead of me soon as he hit the hill the...

Update on my opinion of my new truck

Well I have been driving the 95 to my transit job the PSD is a dream to drive the the 10% grades seem like mole hills now. The old IDI is topped out at 80 km/h (50mph) it won't accelerate any faster the PSD does 50mph at 2000 rpm in OD step on it a little more and I'am doing 100km/h 62mph with...

    3rd and 4th gone

The best bet is a rebuilt transmission ya its expensive but it will be the longest lasting repair. The old 300-6s do have the low end grunt the Mazda transmission probably can't handle it.

    Yikes

Like I said I haven't had a load on my PSD but now I'am thinking a turboed IDI would pull just as good  When I get more money I may cut that restrictive exhaust off the PSD and remove that rotten CAT seeing as we don't need them here its not illegal to remove them. The old IDI has a...

    Yikes

One truck driver I know used to have a GMC COE 2 ton 150hp 5spd I think it was a 5500 he used to gross 20,000lb plus in that truck all the time. With our 10% grades here he used to start at the bottom of the hill in 2nd gear pull out his lunch and eat it while he climbed the hill. I don't...

    Headache rack

Your best bet is have a local welding shop build you one to the spec's you want. You want one made out of Aluminum it looks better and it lighter and prolly cheaper with the price of steel.

    Yikes

When my old IDI is loaded with 6000-7000lbs of lumber on its back I'am in 3rd gear climbing the 10% grades doing a whopping 40km/h (25mph) can't go any faster. Its just something you have to live with and you learn how to take a good run at the hill to get the momentum up at the bottom. Most...

Well officially gone to the darkside

I had no choice you can't find any F-Superduties that are in good shape they are all like mine old and worn out. Eventually everybody is gonna have to switch to a PSD like it or not especially if they lower the sulpher content in the fuel even lower till it provides no lubrication for a...

Help Me Decide, got to buy tomorrow

I know the price of Revo's here are more than LTX M/S which is surpising. The last time I looked LTX M/S were 199.00 dollars and Revo's were 230.00 dollars Canadian funds for Lt235/85R16s. Bridgestone makes good tires I think you should have alright sucess with the Revos. I just checked...

Business question - May be a driver one day

Forklifts are tough to work on some Hysters you have to change parts by feel because you can access them with out removing the engine. If you find a T-800 with 46,000lb rear axles that should give you enough carrying capacity its what the lowbedders use here to gross 140,000lbs which is legal...
