Engine is in great shape with an industrial injection IP and rebuilt injectors with new glow plugs and controller. Sounds great and doesn't smoke except if you completely floor it. It's been babied it's whole life but has towed. Driven by an old man most of its life.
I'm going to put 255/85s on the rear to reduce rpms a little bit but if I get 15-16 unloaded and 10-12 pulling a 16x6 bumper pull with 2-3 horses and a bed full of tack I'll be happy.
I've got a wife and 2 kids with one on the way to squeeze in and my duramax is loaded up with tools and weighs...
I'm guessing it has 4.10's. I won't be doing 70mph often mostly just going small town to small town.
I only drive 60mph in my duramax. I'm not usually in a hurry
Looking at a 92 F350 Crew Cab long bed 2wd n/a with E4OD. Clean one owner truck paint is just faded.
I'm not buying it expecting 20mpg but what mpg should I expect unloaded cruising and pulling say 6-8k horse trailer and tach?
Mostly flat and rolling hills around here so I shouldn't need alot...
Not sure where to post this:
My buddy bought a 03 F350 was a 6.0 and now 5.9 VE w/ H1C turbo at an auction 6 months ago . Last week his tcase snapped the mounting flange on his 5R110 smooth off going down the highway and did some serious damage. We found an 05 trans and tcase to throw in got...
First off I love both my Dmax's but its just not the same.
My 6.5's pull just as good IMO and there is just something about hearing an idi engine crack off and rattle the walls in below freezing temps that is more satisfying than my dmax rumbling to life like it is 70 out.
Mpg is great
I can...
Well I'm getting less enthused about the Vin L swap due to possible tuning and issues. After some reading I have decided that we will wait for a Vin 5 and do a phaser lock out out and tune.
The knock it had was a failed phaser and likely had something to do w/ engine locking up. Likely valve to...
I run Mobile Delvac, Mobile 1, or Amsoil. All personal preference.
I had the rotella drinking problem in my trucks, I switched to synthetic on most soon after.
To be clear I'm talking 08 Vin 5 swapping to 08 Vin L.
Yeah dad said it started knocking more than normal while pulling a decent 1/2 mile hill (yeah it was that bad lol), looked down and saw no oil psi, got to the top of the hill (gaurd rails all the way up) and pulled over at the top and heard...
That's what I figured.
So the engine in the truck is variable timing equipped 3v what are my chances of dropping a 2v non variable engine in and getting an SCT tune to make it work?
Idk, it had been knocking (sounded like a top end knock to me) for along time on top of the bad shake after a pull.
I plan to at least pull the heads and pan just for chits and giggles, need to see carnage! Haha
Well dad called and it threw a rod yesterday....
Any idea if the cab has to come off to do an engine swap? We are looking for a low mile JY engine or something
Aired down 285's would work but the cure would be, keep the lead brick away from soft spots lol.
A 305/70R16 (33x12.5) would look best w/ those wheels IMO. Problem is they cost more, weigh more, wider, and all of that has to figure in to the bottom line w/ slight mpg drop and higher cost.
I hear ya. I got the 20's for $500 had nasty 90's steelies on my 06 dmax when I got it. Wish I would have went w/ 16's but I have gotten good life out of 20" tires surprisingly.
Imo I'd keep w/ the 285/75. Can't say I like how wide of a wheel you have it on, I prefer a 7-8" wheel my self. I have issues w/ getting the foot print I want when loaded, too much shoulder wear.
My only issue w/ Firestone transforce tires is the solid center ribs you get after 20-30k they wear great but they are almost like highway treads the last 30k
Cooper at3's last 60k on all of our trucks and have a good bite until the last day.
Running cooper at3's on my dads truck, 10k and very little wear. I just got 2 cooper st maxx tires on the rear of mine, look great and affordable cost.
