Same sub-par mileage even after IP re-timed.. ugh!

Where is your water temp needle? For best fuel mileage it should be, IIRC about 1/3 into the normal range when up to operating temp.[read the FAQ'S] ---seems to me like 190F at the top hose if you have an infrared thermometer. Replacing the thermostat with an oem Ford one increased my mileage...

Moms Crew Cab too DANGEROUS to Drive. Help!

Maybe a little off topic, but I once had a trailer that would 'walk/wander' at and above ~45 mph. After lots of head scratching discovered the rubber in the shackles were bad.

Moms Crew Cab too DANGEROUS to Drive. Help!

While waiting for the results, I am going to mention about the only item I have not seen mentioned- the steering box---not only the box itself but the frame where it mounts and the mounts themselves. Truth is though, I suspect the worn parts have already been mentioned. And I vote to keep a...

    09S09 Recall Notice

3'rd sticky from the top-read all about it.... 2x remove the wires from the master cylinder until you get the recall done. FWIW it took all of 3 minutes for the tech to install the inline fuse on my IDI F250. All done in their parking lot adjacent to the service counter.

    >>> WINTER TIPS TECHNIQUES AND ADVICE <<<

In addition to the emergency kit I always keep some heat packs, some for hands others for your feet, and insulated coveralls or snowsuit. Cheap heat should you loose the cab heater for any reason or you have to be outside in the nasty cold. Time also to check the contents of your first aid...

Way too much government intrusion into my life.

    Wireing harness

Sure, you can put the 'new' connectors on the old harness, just be sure you do it right or you will 'let the smoke out of the electrical wires/computer, etc'!cookoo:mad: With that said however, be advised I am no yota expert but I have done lots of automotive/aviation electrical work, so this...

    Recall notice

Just another reason to do the work yourself or use an independent garage. Yes, I know that for a factory recall you have to go to a dealer, but limit you visits. I suspect a bad situation would develop very quickly should they try to pull a stunt like that on me. FWIW I was very paranoid when...

    Speedo needle bounce Problem

Hummm.....Good idea. Although I do not own an O'Scope I am no stranger to one, and may be able to borrow one. I could hook it to the VSS without much trouble, but the new one acts like the 1994 factory unit, so I doubt it is bad. Assuming that it is good, where else can I intercept the...

    Speedo needle bounce Problem

At about 62-68 mph my speedometer needle will bounce, not a lot mind you, but enough to set my 'OFF' light on the shift lever to flashing. I have replaced and adjusted the FIPL switch, cleaned then replaced the VSS on the rear axle, then cleaned the contacts with cleaner, [they seem normal...

    Pass rear brake locks up

The brake hardware is probably the problem, but are both drums dry? Maybe a bad seal allowing diff lube onto the brakes causing it to grab? I had a similar problem, turns out it was a bad seal and hardware that failed.

    Fuel problem please help!

It sounds like a good idea however you need to check the law on this one as I have seen numerous stickers on fuel transfer tanks warning against such hookups. It would be almost as good to just pump from the aux tank into your good tank/bypassing the selector valve if need be. Keeps you away...

    Fuel problem please help!

Maybe from an Autozone type store or lacking that a big truck/semi dealer or truck stop. If you want to use the internet I'm sure some of the advertisers have it avlailable. Follow directions.

    >>> WINTER TIPS TECHNIQUES AND ADVICE <<<

Do you know to troubleshoot a short you can jumper the fuse with a light bulb [or any load for that matter], then you can 'read' voltage at various points along the circuit with a voltmeter or test light, until you find the short/ground? Of course you can always use an ohmmeter if you remove...

    Truck not starting, help!

X2 on the blems-called ECONO line. Between myself and a couple of others we have bought 14 of them [golf carts, cars, etc] with only one bad one that was replaced without hesitation or question. Going on the third year on most of them.

    really stupid mistake... :(

Actually, TW-3 marine two-stroke oil is much better than ATF to add to diesel fuel as per this study; http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177728 As always, YMMV.

About all I can add is when I plug in the block heater I am always concerned I will drive off without disconnecting the cord, so I always loop some of the cord over the driver's mirror. I have also found that raising my upper radiator hose [water] temp to around 150F that my fuel mileage has...

    really stupid mistake... :(

All good advice... Just a quick and dirty lowdown on diesel things [others will no doubt add to this list] 1 Diesels use fuel to govern speed [rpm] add fuel, rpm increases-add other liquids, veg oil, gasoline, seafoam, water, LP, propane, 2 stroke oil, etc will cause different effects, not...

    Front Air Bag Helper Springs

So, if I am understanding this right, the more weight the air bag is supporting [up to it's max, of course] then for the most part the smoother the ride? To carry the question one step farther down this line of thinking, If one was to remove a leaf or two from the front leaf springs...

.. having the hardest time bleeding the brakes.

That reminds me.....a few years ago, [come to think of it, it was in 1998!] I 'stole' a 1992 Ranger ext cab PU at the auto auction. Less than 1/2 the wholesale price!! Sold it years later and still made money! It had almost all wear items [belts, plugs, wires, etc] replaced by the selling...

    Emblem removal?

Along those same lines, as a young sailor in boot camp, the white rubber tips on IIRC the bed legs would always get scuffed up by shoes/boots. Our CC had us clean them with spray Gillette deodorant. Worked like a charm! Man, that's been a LONG time ago..........

    Grill Covers?

This is the third diesel I have owned, doesn't make me an expert or anything, but I have found that a diesel under load makes heat a lot quicker than just idling or driving in town. Mine puts out some heat after 2-3 miles of in town driving, but doesn't really get hot until I get up to 55 or so...

    Grill Covers?

San Diego???the mid 50's was as cold as I ever seen there! Maybe you are at elevation......... Anyhow, I would first make sure your thermostat is working and is the right temp rating. Then I would cover some of your radiator, shooting for 135-170F at the top radiator hose[use one of those...
