trans issues- alison 1000
had to replace the neutral safety switch on the trans, simple enough but it sure makes ya think that the trans is about ready to fall out. had to get the codes cleared at the dealer, too.- blumax

hi folks, strange day today. left home today everything was fine, picked up a load of lumber, delivered it, went and took care of some other stuff, had lunch, picked up another load of lumber, delivered it, made a stop on way back, trans would not go into reverse. hmmm... put it back into park...- blumax

Vortec Fuel Pressure Specs
hi, it kinda sounds like my '96 did at one time, turned out that the gear on the dist. was worn, replaced that and it ran fine. another time it was the dist cap, i had a brass terminal one and it ran like a bag of dung, i put the cheap cap on it and it ran good again. dunno if this helps but its...- blumax

May seem obvious but...
the d-max is a DOHC? i know its a 32 valve motor but are you sure its a DOHC? i looked at mine and it kinda don't look like one. Hmmmmm....- blumax

runs like it has too much fuel
alls well in vortec land now, runs like it did with 150,000 miles, idles at 600 rpm, nice and smooth. #1, #3, #2 & #4 intake ports were full of the nasty sticky so this may have been going on for a little longer than i thought. i just can't believe some engineer thought this design was a good...- blumax

well i tore it down yesterday and the intake gaskets(intake to heads) came off in lots of pieces and the freekin bolts were only hand tight, goin out today to see if it runs any better now. scott- blumax

i was poking around at it yesterday and i pulled the oil fill cap off to see if there was some blowby and there was a a lot of suction, so i pulled the pcv out and it hardly changed, then i checked the plugs and #4 had oil on it, the rest looked good. so i think it must be the intake gasket.-scott- blumax

hi all, i have a 96 gmc with a 5.7 vortec and as of late it don;t idle right, its ok in park, but once in gear, it jumps to about 1100 rpm then slowly comes down to about 800 rpm, until you drive over 30 mph then the idle will only fall to about 1200 rpm. i replaced the iac valve and tps with...- blumax

automatic headlights
hey, the riddle is solved. meerlie required a little reading. all you need to do is push the dome light overide button 4 times and you have full manual control until the next time you turn off the key.- blumax

automatic headlights
well, i tried the DRL relay, but the only thing that happened was the DRL's didn't work, not really what i am after. there must be a way to trick the sensor into thinking its always daytime. one of these days i'll find a way to disconnect it and see what happens. or maybe just tape a flashlight...- blumax

good oil for the duramax?
hi all , thanks for the input. i am currently running rotella and am considering the amsoil switch. i have been using mobil 1 in my 96 5.7 for 6 years along with a wix filter and have had very good luck with it, it just turned 225,000 miles and still running strong. i have considered the mobil 1...- blumax
