    Dead Pyro?

I tapped the gauge leads with a battery (AAA) and it swung the needle smoothly (quickly), but vibration was my very first thought when this all started. No info on fixing/recalibrating the nut and getting the gauge apart without breaking it?

    Dead Pyro?

Ok, replaced the thermocouple yesterday and watched it today, specifically in the heat on the way home. Pyrometer now reads more like normal temps at cruising, but it is still hanging up at about 350*, 550*, 900* and 1050*. I'm guessing the extension harness also got heat soaked and is causing...

So what did you do with your truck today?

5th wheel tailgate showed up to replace my damaged one, so on it went. I'm thinking that when I can, I'll put diamond plate on the inside and paint the outside to match the truck. I've lost a few miles per gallon running with no tailgate and would like to correct that.

Yup, new one on the way.

1989 F250 ZF5 Clutch Fork! Autozone wrong fork!

I covered some of this as well. Pretty sure the fork listed for a truck that should have a ZF5 at AZ is for a 4-speed.

    Dead Pyro?

It was a little more responsive this morning, but still not trustworthy. Going to see if there is a difference on the way home with normal outside temps to judge by, but I'm guessing I'll be ordering a probe when I get home.

    Dead Pyro?

Didn't check continuity specifically, but yes, 0 ohms, leads are red (-) and yellow (+), ISSPRO R658 - K-type - 1600*F. It was a brand new one, but was an ebay purchase, so I'm thinking it may have been mishandled. If it's still acting the same tomorrow then I think I'll order another of the...

    Dead Pyro?

It was high 70's to mid-80's ambient outside and the truck was sitting in the sun.

    Dead Pyro?

Tracked the complete length on the extension harness and pulled the fiberglass sleeves off the connections and everything looks good. Since the truck hadn't been started today I checked the leads with the multimeter again (engine cold). Ohm 0 Voltage -0.05mV So I pulled the...

    Help me spend some money

Leave it in there and pull a plug behind it (on head towards firewall). Impact will probably tear the sender apart.

    Help me spend some money

Boil some water and drop the probe in that to test it.

    Help me spend some money

Have you looked through the thread in my signature? You can get Stewart Warner mechanical coolant temp gauges with multiple length capillary tubes. I think I got a 72" and it was a bit long. I hit one of the plugs on the driver's side head (just between the valve cover and exhaust manifold) with...

    Dead Pyro?

Just got to work and checked to make sure the fiberglass sleeves haven't slipped or worn or anything. Also made sure the extension harness hadn't slipped the firewall grommet. Haven't taken those sleeves off yet, but from the looks of it, it's either a problem with the thermocouple or the...

    Dead Pyro?

Bolts and ring terminals. Both connections have separate fiberglass sleeves that keep them from touching. They shouldn't have slipped or rubbed through as I have a zip toe on either side of each one and another securing those and the extension harness to the bundle of hoses/wires on the cowl...

    Dead Pyro?

It's all ISSPRO's ring terminal connectors and bolts with fiberglass sheathing zip tied around the connections. When it works it's reading lower than normal and doesn't pickup like it did when I pull 3rd gear. The top part that I can see of the probe looks like it has a little line in it where...

Bids to host the 2017 OB Rally

Kentucky would be perfect for me. I'm holding out to be able to attend this next one and the old lady is giving the green light assuming she can get a friend to accompany us. All depends on finances. Truck sales are softening up again...

I did too, lol. The wife calls it the pirate-meter. Tells me how many are nearby.

    Dead Pyro?

I'll try checking it Saturday and pulling the sheaths off the connectors between the extension harness to see if something came loose. I have the harness running through a grommet I installed on the firewall (plenty of vizio) but I'll try to check it out as well.

    Dead Pyro?

Pyrometer, actually. Yesterday morning on my way to work I noticed that the pyro was stuck. This stuff is all brand new, so maybe I got a lemon? Anyway. ISSPRO R605-P gauge and R658 thermocouple with a 10 foot extension harness (I think is was). So this morning I get it to move, but still...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Haven't been back from our camping trip for long and got called back for summer help 2 days after getting home. Yes, it made about a 100* or a little more of a difference. Would be a lot better if I had a turbo. The camper's gvwr is about 7400 lbs and has to weigh over 10K. I thought my...

    87 Crew Cab w/ 6 doors

Like I said, staple of the IDI community :D Did you do some secret work on the front of the bed? Lines on the front of the box look straighter than I remember seeing last. Now it really does look like it came from the factory like that.

    Total Worm Moment Engine Grounds?

I had this same kind of problem last year due to the grounds for the block. I got the truck with large speaker wire as all the battery cables and set screw-type connectors (set screw for the cable end, usually nickel or gold plated at the parts stores, highly recommend). Both batteries are now...

I can run free VIN checks for 2 more weeks

Ha, mine said it's never been reported to be in an accident, but I had one in November. All State never looked at the door tag or VIN. Looks like my only discrepancies are a 1 missing from the odometer reading at one point in its life and the "exceeds mechanical limits" from my registration...

    Logger upgrades

That's the reason why most people move the axle center line forward about an inch when doing a solid axle swap. IIRC, V code springs will also do this. All the '96 and earlier springs have the center pin offset to the rear and the V codes are supposed to be more centered. People have also...
