So what did you do with your truck today?

.......but did the truck really leave you stranded....? Or did YOU leave YOU stranded....... ;Poke Joking aside, I’m glad it ended up just being a pain to the wallet and your time, but nothing else!!!

This is how I’ve always read my OBD1 codes, although I’ve had to do it only a few times.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Just opinion here, but that would be way to matchy-matcherson here for me. I like the tougher look of the black and gray sporting the regular lug nuts. Unless you are exposed to tons of salt and grime.....I’d leave them ;Sweet

California Diesel Conversion Tale of Woe

@XOLATEM I also agree in that a 700r or 200r with my 3.42 geared 10-bolt would be a descent driver!! I have the u-shaped bracket for the kick-down cable, but for gassers only, and since so few TH-350’s came behind diesels, I’d bet that piece is more rare than the 700r4 TV cable bracket for...

    Need some knowledge

If dirt roads were most of my future and not having a slide-in, I’d also consider a D range tire for softer compliance. How does your jeep like the 10 ply of the E’s on such a light vehicle? Or better yet, how do you like them? Do you keep them at 30-35 on the trail as well or drop the to...

So what did you do with your truck today?

@KansasIDI what do you think your compression ratio is? Do you plan to try and use a grid heater or always just a snort? Would the block heater warm it enough in the winter to not need ether?

So what did you do with your truck today?

@KansasIDI i can’t remember what you did? Is it in your build thread? Dropped a turbo 7.3 in place of the 6.9? And what did you do for priming? A grid heater....?

    Fuel issues?

Could it have slipped timing at all, like the pump didn’t get tightened down enough....? Like maybe the getting loud when on the pedal is injector knock or rattle....cause it goes away if he eases up on the go pedal....

    Fuel issues?

@onetonjohn people smarter than me will chime in, but it’s fuel drain back from the return system. Air is entering somewhere when the pickup is off and allowing the fuel to drain back to the tanks to various degrees. There enough fuel between the filter, IP, and injectors to start the pickup...

    Fuel issues?

RH side is feed from Lift Pump. LH side is supply to IP Hose on top fuel return from IP The white wire my finger is on will disable the trigger for the GP Relay. Prolly a fuse you could pull, but my doghouse is easy to pull and not blocked.

California Diesel Conversion Tale of Woe

@XOLATEM #1 I agree with you whole heartedly!! But hear me out... The ‘79 C10 currently resides in South Dakota. Has a mild rebuilt 355 sbc with a small RV cam. Originally equipped with TH-350 and 3.42 geared 10-bolt but we got it with no engine tranny. Just a roller. My ‘84 C10 (first...

California Diesel Conversion Tale of Woe

@u2slow thank you for your input!! I appreciate it. Would a 6.2 with a turbo not suffice for a C10 with a turbo 350 and 2.56 gears? Or would I be better off with the carb’d gasser and just adjust it? I was hoping to be around 18-20 mpg. At 60 mph.

That’s a whole ‘mother can of worms....here in CO it goes something like this....(not exact) All windows can be tinted to 27% but if the rears are darker then the front two must be 35% and on and on!! Oofta.....I better check on this. As my dad has a 1979 C10 big 10. I know Big10 was an emissions thing, but even late 70’s CA spec’d Big 10’s had cats. I don’t think dads is CA spec’d, but I’m not sure. My plan was to bring that up here when dad passes, and swap a 6.2 in it to avoid EFI cause...

@bob_442 that sucks!! Can you use your “unable to be registered” pickup for spare parts? Or do you have a solution to get it registered and in CA’s good graces? Or will you have to sell it? I guess the solution is to add a cat, and an OBD2 system, and use the industrial motor for backup...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I just order it straight from Optilube’s website in gallon jugs, I haven’t found it cheaper. Then I measure it to glass bottles. I run summer+ blend most the year (2.3 cents extra per gallon at minimum dose) then run winter when I know it’s setting in. I’m cheap, on a budget trying to live...
