Okay....so my other trailer was a 3horse with full LQ's.....went to CAT scales loaded and my read out was at 16410 lbs....tooooo heavy for the F250 and PA law that now requires over 10 K to have a noncommercial CDL(greedy bunch they are) ....so I sold the big trailer and downsized to a 2 horse...
Hey there chillman, yes I am on Facebook and if this guy is in PA and can answer some questions it might be helpful! Are turbos really around 3 grand? Yikes then the labor???? Doubtful that gonna happen or am I missing something?
Thanks Chillman as always, would love for the turbo fairy to drop one in the truck, but aint holdin' my breath on that. I think that this truck can handle the light trailer I got....my other one was 12k loaded and had a reason to be slow. Hopefully my boys at the shop can figure this out...
So, took the 88 250 7.3 IDI automatic out for maiden voyage hauling new horse trailer. The trailer is a gooseneck with weekender living quarters, aluminum and my lard ass horse that weighs 1100 pounds...trailer is 5500 pounds. Going up the hills in Pennsylvania, I was rolling black smoke,speed...
So....hooked up the goose neck trailer(no horse or extra water tank) to my 88F250 7.3 IDI and went to the weight scales at truck stop. This was my print out Steer axle 3720 lb.
Trailer axle 5320 lb...
Just wanted thank all you guys for the input and information on the compression brake issue. Turns out that there were compression fittings on the lines and they are illegal for Pa. inspection(but it had passed at previous owners garage last year) I called the previous owner and asked him about...
Thank you so much chillman88....Harrisburg and Hershey are closest...may have to check it out. You guys have been so helpful and have great senses of humor...world needs more of that!
Feel free to stop by and show me!!!!! I work in a dental office to support my bad habits...prolly could use something we have laying around. Smile pretty!
I am in the Lewistown/State College area. This truck is only used to haul my living quarter horse trailer. The truck can do the job and it is in excellent condition with a strong frame,no rust and has been a show truck. 149 k original miles and restored. 7.3 idi. the seller wanted my rusted out...
According to the invoice ( under future work needed) it says compression fittings....so I guess the previous inspection was a lick it and stick it joint....yeeesh. Can these be replaced with another type of fitting or am I looking at a big buck fix?
This is just on the truck...the trailer is good. The thing that gets me is it passed Pa inspection in Dec.2018 and my mechanic said that they have been illegal for years???? Once I get the full details from mechanic, I should know more. May need to contact previous owner too!
Purchased a nice 88 F250 7.3 IDI with low miles to use to haul the horse trailer. Apparently when I switched over to the other fuel tank, sediment or something caused a problem with fuel pump/filter. Had that fixed....BUT the mechanic says "oh by the way, you have compression brakes and it will...
Just acquired an 88 F250 with a 93 body. (Previous owner could not find enough 88 body parts) The engine is a 7.3 IDI with 143K original miles. My previous horse hauler was a 350 powerstroke(2001) with 356K and cracked frame. Being that I am a lone cowgirl/camping trailrider, I depend on...
