Bucking / surging when starting from a dead stop.....clutch?

I'll try it at lunch today and report back. My guess would be the former. Knock on wood, the truck runs GREAT. Assuming it is the pressure plate, I'd assume that it'd be a stupid thing to only have that replaced rather than the entire clutch while someone is in there, correct? Mike

Bucking / surging when starting from a dead stop.....clutch?

I have what I THINK is a clutch issue, but I wanted to run it by you guys. When taking off from a dead stop, the truck is giving me a bucking/surging sensation. It's more pronounced in reverse or if I have a load in the back (like a couple of sportbikes), and especially bad if I try to take...

Larger 1995 psd oil filter on 7.3 IDI ????

10 micron at what efficiency? Don't buy into the hype when filter manufacturers tell you their filter is an 'X micron' filter unless they tell you it's efficiency at that level as well. Heck, a screen door is a 10 micron filter, just terrible efficiency LOL Mike

Fuel filter change not going nearly as smooth as it should

NAPA 3417 has a drain without the sensor hookup. That's what I have in mine. Mike

Are these trucks getting harder And harder to find?

Breaking news: Stuff no longer made eventually becomes hard to find. Story at 11. lol. Seriously, guys. This is inevitable with ANY vehicle, no matter how popular. Mike

Heater core removal and installation - any tips/tricks?

Well, looks like the luck may have ended. Came back from a long trip the other week where she ran just fine, but got up the next morning and was greeted with the same telltale wet spot. Thinking I may have damaged type heater hoses from tightening the clamps too tight, I removed them, cut off...

brick nose sealed beam eye candy

I just wonder if they have enough adjustability to be redirected the right way. Some RHD lenses can, but most cannot. Mike

OE oil pressure gauge with Banks turbo......worthless?

Where did you install the sensor for the temp gauge? Mine's in the port where the sensor for the 'ENGINE TEMP' light would be. Mine hovers right at 205°±5°, with a few stints up to 215° or so when lugging it on long hills with a load in the back (mainly just to see what she would do). This is...

OE oil pressure gauge with Banks turbo......worthless?

Already got the water temp gauge in. Love it. Knowing what's REALLY going on versus guessing based on the OE gauge is SO much nicer. Driving it like I stole it now because now I know she doesn't care! LOL I'm not against an oil gauge, I'm just out of room. I just installed a triple pillar...

OE oil pressure gauge with Banks turbo......worthless?

Just looking to put my mind at ease more than anything else..... Ever since I've owned my truck (about a year now), the oil pressure seems to read real low, as in it almost never hits any letter in 'NORMAL'. I have a Banks setup, so the sending unit has been relocated to the turbo. I've...

how do the intermittent wipers work?

Yes, but that assumes he doesn't have intermittent wipers right now. IIRC, on trucks without intermittent wipers, 'OFF' is all the way to the left (CCW). On trucks with intermittent, 'OFF' is dead center, intermittent is to the left, and normal speeds are to the right. Mike

how do the intermittent wipers work?

If you have a bricknose, it's not behind the glovebox. That's on OBS trucks. Mike

how do the intermittent wipers work?

how do the intermittent wipers work?

As I remember it....... Follow the wiring harness out the back of the wiper switch. The next black box it plugs into is the box you're looking for. Mike

how do the intermittent wipers work?

My guess is the bad solder joint. You probably have intermittent contact. Mine used to do the same. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Mike

how do the intermittent wipers work?

I'll take a look on mine tomorrow and let you know. It's been a few years since I messed with it. In the meantime, read this and see if it helps: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/453537-wiper-control-module.html That's the thread that showed me how to fix it in my last truck (my old...

how do the intermittent wipers work?

You are turning the knob to the left, correct? Mike

how do the intermittent wipers work?

Behind the switch. If you take off the fuse panel and stick your head up there, you'll see it. Usually what happens is the solder joints on some of the components on the circuit board fail. Take it out, open it up, and take a look. On my last truck, all I had to do was touch up a couple of...

    A $40.00 Power Steering Pump....

Am I missing something? Remanufactured pumps go for about $60 with reservoir at the local parts store and closer to $40 on RockAuto all day long. Mike

    Rock Auto Closeouts

Nice! I know we all pretty much use the same parts, but for those wanting to see parts for their specific model, RA doesn't have a clearance section on their site. Bit annoying. So, do this: 1. Look up your vehicle. In the URL, the last part of the code will say 'carcode=' followed by a...

Gauges installed...... These numbers don't seem right

First long trip with the gauges installed. I deliberately lugged it up a few grades just to see what she'd climb to. Water temp got to about 217 tops, but settled back out pretty quick after. Seems to like to run right at 205-207 at freeway speeds on level grade as well as stop-and-go traffic...

Gauges installed...... These numbers don't seem right

When you say 'upper', do you mean the port near the front of the engine (closest to the front of the truck), or the one back near the rearmost cylinders? And what does the switch do? Do you have electric fans? Mike

    Dumb noob question

Oh, come on now. It's like calling a tissue a Kleenex. We all know what he means...... Trying to remember if I hit the throttle before or after I turn the key to 'ON'. I'm half awake in the morning so it's hard to remember. But I thought the high idle doohickey is just a mechanical device...

    Dumb noob question

My sequence: 1. Stab throttle to floor once (sets cold start high idle) 2. Turn key to 'ON' position 3. Wait for WAIT TO START light to turn off 4. Crank as soon as light turns off Using this sequence, the truck jumps straight to high idle. If I forget to stab the throttle at the...

    Dumb noob question

That's what the Owner's Manual calls for. FWIW, I always start mine without pressing the throttle, at least not while cranking. I stab the pedal once or twice to engage the cold start/high idle, then crank without touching the throttle (after the Wait to Start light goes out, of course)...
