    Trans Heater Hose Removal?

Just a WAG, but maybe there was a concern, if the coolant pressure got too high, of over-pressuring the heater core and blowing a tube in it. Or maybe, since there's no heater control valve, it's their way of minimizing the impact of the heater core on A/C during the summer. Now that you mention...

    What does this do ?

But when were they introduced? And more importantly, when were they first built?

    What does this do ?

"Back in the day"? Um, when was the last time you looked in a new car showroom in September or October, and DIDN'T see the next year's models out? That's been going on for 50+ years, and still is.

    Fueling systen snafu

Grounding the lead will make it read EMPTY. Opening the circuit will make it read past FULL. http://userpages.chorus.net/elephant/FuelTankSelector.pdf . If it's reading empty on both tanks, it's most likely the gauge head itself. If it were anything in-tank, it would have to be two sunken...

    IDI 0-60 Times

If I recall, I did get from zero to 60 in the same day. Once.

    What would you do?

That would require a policeman with very poor eyesight, to be unable to distinguish between the brightness of taillights and brake lights.

    No Shift and no Speedo

There is no ECM. That's one of the things that makes an IDI an IDI. You do have a TCM, and it is probably powered by a relay. Your owner's manual will tell you for sure. But nothing electronic can possibly make a mechanical speedometer fail. The square drive is simply the cable core. you need to...

    Windshield replacement

^^^^ +1; yes, rust/debris/whatever in the channel is an issue. But any _REPUTABLE_ glass shop should clean that up for you as part of the job. If it needs actual paint, they should give you the opportunity to do it. We've had two windshields done by Safelite. Here in Madison, Safelite bought up...

    new hydraulics - noisy ?

Did you try the impromptu gasket idea? Still wonder if it's not the metal-on-metal of the master bolted to the firewall. Does the plastic master work any better than the metal one? BTW, your avatar cracks me up every time. Dude's a comic genius, like most of the early SNL people.

Did my grandpa add a fix to the clutch rod?

No, the master shouildn't move. Could be the firewall just flexing. There are a few different reinforcement options, IIRC. Do you have any of them?

    Glow plug controller cover

A generic "smoking pipe" shaped boot should be on the always-hot terminal of the GP relay. Just like on the always-hot terminal of the starter relay.

Did my grandpa add a fix to the clutch rod?

What year truck? If it's a slantnose like in your avatar, that's actually stock. My '85 has that same hole in the pin and the same clip going through the hole. I believe the adjustable pushrod is aftermarket; looks like the one I got at RockAuto. It's the later trucks that have just the plastic...

    Adding a fuse block?

No current ZERO current going to the truck's accessories, etc. goes through the starter relay. The starter relay could fail electrically, and everything on that terminal would still work. The terminal is strictly a physical junction point for everything electrical on the truck, including the...

    What would you do?

The one bad cylinder, is it low compression, or is it pretty-much zero?
  18. M

    Adding a fuse block?

You shouldn't be adding terminals to the battery terminal in the first place. If you don't go the fuse block route, add circuits by adding ring terminals to the always-hot terminal on the starter relay, with in-line fuses. That's the main junction point for all the truck's accessories. The...

    No Shift and no Speedo

If the speedo's not working, I would suspect the drive/driven gears for the speedo cable. That would render the speedo inop, and would mean the VSS would not be reading any speed.

    Fuel gauge pegged

You should be able to ohm the rear sender (well, both actually) from the FSV connector. It would also be worth continuity checking between the ground wire on the front tank connector and a good ground. Could be that the common ground used by both senders is where the open circuit is.

    Soft brake pedal

    Fuel gauge pegged

That is starting to indicate a break in the sender wiring inside the tank. Did you ohm test both senders?
  23. M

    Fuel gauge pegged

What do you mean by "nothing happened"? How exactly did you connect the meter? What resistance range did you set it to? Did you continuity / ohm check the wire from the FSV to the gauge head?
  24. M

    Fuel gauge pegged

^^^^ That would have to happen on both senders. That's why it's more likely forward of the FSV.
  25. M

    Fuel gauge pegged

Well the wire colors MIGHT be different with a brick, but the concept is the same. High resistance = full peg. (As an aside, it would be the opposite with a slantnose '83-'86, as the level-resistance relationship is reversed.)
