    Oil Consumption Debacle

    Do they make a 15W40 Mobil 1?

Would this be a fair value for a truck in CA

That's a sweet deal for such a clean truck, 4x4 5-speed supercab. A little disconcerting that there's no mention of miles on the truck. And that cheapo split bench seat, ugh.

    Oil Consumption Debacle

Um, 5w40 is not thinner than 15w40 at running temperature. Burning a gallon of oil in 600 miles, it's hard to imagine it can be attributed to a type of oil.

    Fuel gauge reads

That ^^^^ is a 5-port version; won't work on our trucks.

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

^^^^^^ And there'd be news choppers following it wherever it goes.

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

Shoulda bought the IDI too, then dropped the IDI powertrain into the Bronco (yeah, it would be a bigeffin' heavy diesel in a half-ton frame, but it's been done.....).

    Severe coolant flush how to

^^^^^ Yeah, I've been wondering, what part of "no fluid touches the engine" are people NOT getting?..... This is basically an inside-out version of what radiator shops used to do day-in, day-out, back when radiators weren't made out of ticky-tacky and were worth repairing. You'd pull the...

    Fuel gauge reads

What year truck? That determines one of two possible, opposite issues.

    F350 bed swap

There's a dude at our farmer's market with just such a setup. Dually 8-foot bed on a dually 10-foot (or is is 9?...) C&C. He put stacks between the cab and bed. Didn't have to modify the internal wheel wells of the bed to accomodate the track of the C&C axle. A trained eye notices how far inside...

    bw1345 linkage pivot bolt

In a pinch, I'll bet you could get a standard bolt and a sleeve/spacer to fit the bill.

    Need Advice on Price

KBB is nowhere near $4800. A "Very good" PSD is about that. You describe a "good" (not "very good") truck. A "Good" IDI is $2700 HIGH end; a "good" IDI-T is $3800 HIGH end. But that tells you something about KBB; all other things being equal, a turbo IDI is not worth anywhere near $1000 more...

    Differences between 86 and 87 F-250

Cables? As in parking brake? Well since the frame is going to remain the same length, the front/intermediate cable from the original regular cab should work. Rear cables are the same on all SRW pickups for a particular year. Edit - oh, the height difference.... Hmm. So are the bricknose parking...

    Fuel pressure problem

Front sender sounds about right. Rear, that's unusual. Usually the sending units read pessimistically low. At those levels in either tank, you're at the point where a broken/detached pickup strainer (showerhead) could cause it to run dry.

    Fuel pressure problem

Okay, just for clarity - was it stalling before you started measuring fuel pressure with the liquid-filled gauge? This: ...is a bit ambiguous. Does this mean the gauge is causing the pressure in the system to drop? Or just the READING is low? If the gauge is literally "causing low fuel...

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

"Smart" phones are like "all-purpose" tools; the more things they're made to do, the worse they suck at doing any of them. My phone can't be hacked when the battery is disconnected. As for the truck, the dude's only into it for $1200. It would have been a disaster at the original asking price...

    Timing question

Well, tires are only aprx. 4% larger than stock, so that's only 1/2 MPG. Were you running the A/C? That'll steal 1-2 MPG. But if it's smoking, yeah, take him up on the offer to re-time. I don't remember the exact details, but it's supposed to be timed at a certain RPM (1500 or 2000, some such)...

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

Just look at any sample of, say, 50 pics of bull/brick/OBS SRW trucks. Betch aprx. half have cab lights. If he's paying for gas, do NOT buy the truck!!!! ;) Yeah, it's chance-y not starting it cold yourself, and not driving it a while before buying. But it's $1200. You know it's a project...

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

Why would they be required on an SRW? They were an option, after all, except for the duallies (which makes no sense, since they don't indicate the overall width of a dually truck).

    Timing question

"Tank" is not a unit of measure. What's the actual economy - distance driven divided by volume fuel required to refill?

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

Who is Governor Springs? And should we be bringing politics into this?...... (Sorry.......) Oh I have no doubt an IDI, even a lifted 2WDer, might do fine in Baja. They could even start a whole competitor class devoted to lifted 2WD diesel pickups. It's just of little to no meaning in the real...

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

And how many people buy IDIs to drive in the Baja 1000?....... :dunno
  22. M

    BUYING A 7.3 IDI

The fact that it's on a 2WD truck, for starters..... It's a $1000 truck, $1500 is TOPS. End of the day, it's an automatic 2WD.

    95 7.3 in 97 frame???

Um, neither transmission in this case will have a "bell". Both the transmissions available in both model years bolt directly to the block. Bellhousings went out with the Borg/C6 era. If the recipient '97 truck was a gasser, its transmission will have a different bolt pattern from the donor PSD...

I think my new head unit is bad, sanity check?

It's not just the difference in power, it's the fact that the roles of the two circuits have changed over the years.
