I've got an extra 088 proprietary turbine sitting on my garage floor you all can have if you think it would be useful. I replaced my turbo set up with an R&D one so it's been sitting here in the way since last year.
And to the OP, I think you got a great deal. Someone was just offering their non turbo 92 for $5,500. In AZ that is a high priced 94 to 98 PSD with mods. Lately, the IDI jumped in value to be on par with those early PSD. Guessing because computer related stuff on PSDs can either scare people...
$3k for decent shape that runs and drives? New Cummins with bottom barrel rubber floor mat work truck package in any color so long as it's white is still $35k. Seems good to me.
But definitely turbo/intercool. With good planning you'll be down for a week or two but the truck will be a...
Best advise IMO (and because it's what I did and I'm never wrong lol! Disclaimer: Ignore all my other posts where I'm incorrect).
Really, I think R&D has are the best design out there with the powerstroke style up pipes and headers. Great quality as well. I bought the builders kits or...
Hahaha that sounds oddly familiar. I don't think I would ever buy a new car w/o an extended warranty so figure at least another 3k to 5k on top of a sticker price for 2005 or newer vehicle. I had a '03 6.0, left me stranded twice due to the icp sensor. Ended up having to solder in a new...
Yup! Haha I'm not clever enough to have thought of it on my own. I think the tolerances are just really tight. I kept tearing up my o rings until I did.
Had the same problem. Red scotch Brite on the holes and have never had a problem since. They are very tight tolerance when purchased and scotch brite on the holes seemed to open up the tolerances enough to seal without shredding the o ring.
I'd also invest in having it rebuilt (or rebuild ir yourself) now no matter what and use that to bargain the price down to $750 (guessing $250 to rebuild by pro or $100 for you to do it). You'll be mad putting it on and then having to take it off in 1.5 years to rebuilt the bearings.
The other thing - thing I like - is an IDI requires a little effort from you. It will turn 250 hp at the rear wheels with a small amout of work and some outlay of cash. Or, you can buy it that way with a newer truck. Some like that idea some don't.
This. I came from the 6.0 to the IDI. For me it was a cost of maintenance issue. Plus every time the key was in the ignition I was worried what was going to break and the cost. I had injectors go on me at 41k and that cost $2k. For the amount I would have spent to "bullet proof" the 6.0, I put...
I've totally scrapped that system but before I did it's hard to say because I also scrapped worn injectors/pump. I had my pump turned all the way up. As I recall smoke wasn't the issue, it was egts. The 60-1 backing plate and compressor side was the best upgrade. No machning was required (some...
I had the 088 (still have an extra proprietary turbine). Best I could get was 8 maybe 9 up a hill on a cold winter day with the IP maxed out, fresh rebuild on the turbo, and a 60-1 compressor side. I think the turbine on these equates to a 1.15 so you're just never going to see much boost psi...
I'll second the above. For the amount of money it takes to buy a new truck, let alone repair it, I invested 2k into some goodies and now my truck doesn't know when a trailer is even hooked up.
Surplus Center sells this gear as well, for pretty cheap. They also have electric door poppers etc..

That sure sounds like a misfire to me vs any sort of mechanical knock.
If you could take the truck up to an empty parking lot, get some speed going and while it's in gear shut the truck off. You would be sure to hear a valve noises as it rolled to a stop if there were any.
I have a mechanics...
Bet your timing is off from worn parts. How old are your injectors and pump? Mine did the same thing, I replaced half the engine (thought I was going to drop a valve, check my posts to see what I replaced chasing this). Knock stayed even with new injectors. Finally got a new pump, went away...
I had to buy a new spark plug boot for my weed blower. My god, trying to get help from Autozone without answering year, make, and model was like pulling teeth. It is not just one guy either, the entire store is dumbfounded. Went to Napa and pulled one off the shelf for $2.30.
It's getting...
