    Battery Cables

In short - metallurgy I did not say "never solder wires" rather I gave him the correct way to solve THIS problem. A solder joint has its time and place, this is not it. A solder joint can be far superior to a crimp, when it is deployed properly under the appropriate circumstances. In this...

    Battery Cables

I want to add, the cable terminal lug pictured was used on a #4 cable IIRC.. that is the lead from the passenger Pos Terminal to the Fender mounted Starter solenoid.

    Battery Cables

I already had the cable, and I got the crimp on lugs at TSC, but you can go in and get all of the parts. If you can get welding lead lugs, that is best, if you have to get regular cable terminal lugs they tend to come with a plastic insulator around the crimp area and I ditch that plastic part...

My apologies, I let my frustration get the best of me and it will not happen again.

    Battery Cables

Best to make them up yourself using some welding lead cable and high quality lugs. If done properly, it transfers the current really well due to the high cross sectional area of the cable and it is flexible. You can buy the goods at Tractor Supply. They are crimp on connectors, DO NOT try to...

First MB post, slid in here from Ford 7.3NA

Good point! I will put that on my list for the car. I live North of Austin, TX and the ramp I use to get down I35 to work is pretty short. I dont have an easy on-ramp heading southbound which is why I doubt I will ever use it for commuting but thats not a big deal. It is mostly a "town car" for...

Well i am still uncertain if there were changes to it dropping out of 4th. I had a ton of other work piled up this weekend so I didnt get much time into it but I was able to drive about 2miles out and then back. It was 40mph tops but had a friend in the car who didnt notice anything strange at...

    Coming Back - Texas

You should be honest with the fellow. I know it is hard for you to understand the concept of honesty Wes... so this is what that looks like. That gear vendors unit was in a truck that got sent hard enough to rip the gear vendor unit out from its mounting brackets. Clean out, dragging on the...

First MB post, slid in here from Ford 7.3NA

So the Tee connections are a bit soft/weak looking so to avoid damage at this point I simply pulled the line off the vacuum pump itself. This did make shifting harder+quicker but also made it so the key being koved to the off position would not actually kill the motor which was a funny surprise...

First MB post, slid in here from Ford 7.3NA

That makes sense, ill get some test time in on it today, been really hectic around here. On the plus side, yesterday I got in it to run to pick up some dinner and it shifted into gear pretty quickly. Like seemed to almost immediately shift so I will pick up where you mentioned with oulling vac...

Thanks, I do plan to poke around some with the vacuum gauge to see if I can find anything. The symptoms - first thing noticed was how long it takes to shift into gear. Glow plugs work, fires up nicely, then 2-3 second delay before drops in gear. It is a little less after driving it but still...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Well the last several weeks have been full of fun and excitement (sarcasm)... After completely removing a "fuel system upgrade" and replacing the stock components the truck has been starting, idling and running great! Then, a moron in a transportation appliance AKA Kia got impatient with...

Turbo IDI won't start after engine swap

What cranking amps are your batteries? Just because they are showing 12.5V does not necessarily mean they are good batteries

Turbo IDI won't start after engine swap

I doubt you will ever get a cold start with it spinning that slow. Are the leads off the batteries in good shape and routed properly? How about the terminations of the cables at the batteries? Studs on the starter solenoid snug and all that good stuff..

    Everybody loves a dentside :D

My first 2 trucks were 70s Fords and I have been driving Fords since. My 2nd was a show winning 70 F250 with factory AC and PS and I wish I never let go of that truck!! I contemplate doing something like you have here, a diesel converted 70s Ford truck. Did you do all of the work to make this...

So the last few months have been a special kind of shit storm and the MB has been sitting. I pulled the battery though and it is toast. Put that on the list... I also noticed some marker writing on the fan shroud. It had to be hit at just the right angle of sunlight to see what it said but it...

    Newbie Here

The older they get, the more people are seeking them. Style as well as the fact they are mechanically operated and not computer controlled drives the price. I have no idea what the market is in your area, but I would go look at it at least while keeping my eyes open for other options. It has...

    Mysterious Starter Behavior

Any time you are going to jumper start the truck at that solenoid it is wise to make contact on a nut or a lug or anything but the threads of the post. Arcing on the threads will cause frustration if/when you replace that solenoid.

    E4OD Problems

Drop a little bit of coin and replace the FIPL sensor (TPS). It is cheaper and easier and has been stated that if it is of unknown age/mileage to just replace it. If you have a real fancy multimeter where you can capture then read the sweep on your FIPL then perhaps you are ok, but its such an...

    The Oilburners hall of shame

To which I retort, Your attention to detail is severely lacking, your observation skills and diagnostic ability suffer greatly because of that. You also seem to have a memory problem, that or you are so deep in your own delusion that you have convinced yourself you know what you are doing...

    The Oilburners hall of shame

Classic Diesel Designs AKA Thewespaul Sorry it has come to this but my interaction has been less than stellar with this young man. This is going to be a long post, but I feel that I gave him plenty of time and patience and see no other way to get around this. I am going to try and do this as...

    Seat Covers

I used this place for mine https://www.shearcomfort.com/ But I cannot attest to fitment in your truck. I have seats out of an excursion in my truck and overall the fitment is pretty good. I would say the fitment is great except I have power seats and the seat covers have a slight problem fittin...

Jockey tank to fuel tank plumbing

Long story short - I have a ball valve on my aux tank that controls fuel flow out of it. After that valve the fuel line goes through a float valve that then dumps directly into the fuel filler line that fills my front tank. The float valve is lower than the front tanks fill location so when the...
