    Vibration at Speed

Interesting, I worked in a Firestone shop around the same time (2006 I think) and we did the same thing. The balancer had a hood that had to be down to spin the wheel, so I never really watched how it looked while spinning, but once in a while I'd have one that either called for an asinine...

    Vibration at Speed

So the wheels needed to be rebalanced but one is really off and she could not get it to balance. She said the tire is wonky. I’m not sure if it’s worn uneven or actually out of round some how. It would be the first time I’ve ever seen that. One thing, my rear end seems to bind slightly when...

    Vibration at Speed

Good to know, thanks for the explanations. I will give this a shot. Also having wheels balanced today so we will see if that makes any difference. There were quite a few weights on the wheels. I remember when I worked at a couple Mechanics' shops while in school some of the GTs would never...

    Vibration at Speed

It's a 2wd so no hubs to lock. Good to go there. I did make sure the drive shaft orientation stayed the same, and just for kicks tried all other combos as well. I did not smack anything; where would I smack the U-joint? I've never heard or been taught that.

Even better if they are randomly spaced fore/aft!

    Vibration at Speed

This morning I was able to mess around a bit. There seems to be two distinct noises going on. There's a pulsing drone type note that I think is all engine. I can make it do it from 2k-2.5k+ sitting still in neutral. There's also something going on driveline related, as I could hear/feel it...

    Vibration at Speed

Yikes that sounds horrible. I’m not going to ignore it. I think I understand what you’re saying. I wonder, if I try a run up in fourth, if I will find the vibes in the same places. If not, then it must be engine rpm. If so, it must be more driveline/road speed.

    Installing cab clearance lights

A trick that may work for nailing the spacing is to use a seamstress’ tape. It’s a cloth tape measure and should be able to follow the roof contour vs a tape measure that kinks unless it’s flat. You can tape it down to the roof to keep it in place. I didn’t use it for clearance but for a...

    Vibration at Speed

I will check on the bell housing bolts. Probably this weekend some time before I get a chance to do that but I will check. I also need to check the mounts. Haven’t done that yet. The shifter isn’t touching, 2wd so no xfer case. Would tranny fluid matter? It’s overfilled by a half quart to try...

    Vibration at Speed

I don’t believe it’s lifted. Given its previous life as a tow mule for a trade show trailer I doubt it. it might come to that. When I removed the driveshaft the first time I marked it, but when I had these vibes I second guessed myself. I tried all the other clocking combos and it didn’t...

    Vibration at Speed

Good deal, thanks. I couldn't find anything that made it specific either way so your confirmation is appreciated. I'll admit my heart sunk when I read your first post. But even if that were the issue and I had to spend some more coin, at least it would be solved. I found a vibration chart...

    Vibration at Speed

Mine is a 7.3 idi, na. I used kit 07225 from Luk. I’ll have to dig a little deeper but I thought it had said it was for non-turbo.

    Vibration at Speed

I have a vibration/drone noise around 35-45 mph and 65-75 mph. I can’t figure out if it’s engine or driveline but I’m leaning towards engine. Here is what I’ve done so far: Luk SMF clutch kit Rearmost u-joint (cup fell off and I lost the needles when doing the clutch) Rearmost u-joint again...

    Hello from ND

Mostly just drive it. Every now and then we do a project that needs a skid steer or something and it will be nice to have something suited for it. Plus, I’ve always wanted a mechanical diesel truck, something simple enough for me to understand and work on. Listening to this thing idle brings me...

    Project: IDI International Travelall

I don’t believe there should be any rtv on the splines, just spline grease. I think there are special products for that but I have always ended up using moly axle grease as it’s what I had around. I think that little hole is a weep hole so you know if the seal is bad. The actual shaft seal is...

Failed 26 year old original db2, what’s inside? What goes wrong?

Thanks for this post, I’ve been looking for this solenoid for a while as mines shot and only was finding them for 200-ish. None of my local yards had them. I just put in an order for one from your website. My searching never turned up your store for whatever reason; I was using both Ford and...

Where to thread in pyrometer probe

I have done them with a ratchet and 12pt socket. I think it would work with the socket and a u-joint if an area is cramped. I’d feel more comfortable with that than running the tap in with a drill.

    Off Idle Miss When Cold

My engine seems to start when cold without too much protesting. Th fast idle solenoid has failed so I use the manual fast idle (my foot). I can take my foot off as soon as it starts and It seems to idle fine even when cold at normal idle position, just slower than when warm. Just off idle, the...

    No power to cab

I’ve had issues like this with a bad battery cable and/or clamp on other vehicles. It works fun until you put a heavy load on it (like glow plugs/starter) and it burns through the tiny bit of metal that was making the circuit and opens it. If you can wiggle the clamps/cables and get things to...

    6.9,7.3 and 7.3 turbo fuel return lines?????s

I wonder if the tolerance across engines on the dimension between the nut and where the cap would sit would screw that up. But, maybe if a wavy washer or something was between the injector line nut and the cap, then small differences in dimension there wouldn't matter as much and the cap would...

gonna try my hand at return line repair

I just did mine last Friday and will add to check for mold flash on the bottom of the caps. Mine had flash there that looked like it could damage the o-rings while installing them. I used a utility knife and trimmed it off.

    The building of Beagle Pup.

There used to be one a few miles from my house that would bark and chase me for a full mile around the corner when I would ride by on my bike. Despite the noise and chasing, I never sensed he meant harm but was letting me know “that’s close enough.” One time I stopped and he just stayed about...

    Carquest Fuel filter

That is what I bought for mine, but the one with the screw in bottom. We have Oreilly, Autozone, Napa, and Advance (formerly carquest). I like to use Advance whenever I can as they are knowledgeable and respectful. The others are staffed with kids and/or arrogant arseholes. Nothing against kids...
