I agree too. We have been below zero highs for quite a while now, and it doesn't look like it's improving any time soon. I'd be happy with just being able to go outside and not choke on the air.
I just installed the Auber EGT gauge. It seems to work well but does not like the cold. It will flash the EEEE error and random asinine temperatures and calm down, like it’s having seizures, until the cab is warm-ish. I found a post online somehwere they the temp compensation doesn’t work below...
By cruise module I assume you mean the servo box/cable? I will have to look and see if there's an empty plug near where that goes. I believe it's supposed to be mounted to the driver's side fender near the brake booster?
I tried searching a bit but most of what I found pertained to using factory cruise, mostly in PSD trucks, which is easy. My truck has a 7.3 NA IDI and I was wondering what the easiest route to cruise control would be. What parts would I need to gather to implement a factory cruise control...
That’s kind of what I figured. Not worth stressing it that hard when I have other vehicles. This morning, with the block heater, it started ok. It had to crank for a little bit but took off fine. It was -20F. Next time I'm going to try cycling the glow plugs more. It's weird how fast things...
Discovered this morning it doesn’t work at -22 without the block heater! I must not have plugged it in all the way; when I plugged it back in it was using 1kW as it should. Got a few little pops out the tailpipe but gave up and took the minivan instead. Curious, is there an acceptable way to...
I can tell the difference with the oil/PS anti-gel mixture vs. just the anti-gel. It’s definitely less rattley, especially when cold. I think I’m going to stick with this mixture for the winter and then just use the oil in the summer. I used the truck this morning at -15F with no issues and will...
I made up some additive 'shots' with about 10 oz of power service anti-gel and 8 oz. of outboard oil. I used some 1/2 liter Dr. Pepper bottles, the shape of them seems made for this kind of thing. I haven't had to fill fuel lately as I've been away from home, but hoping to try them out in the...
My then 10 year old and I built a minibike last winter. It's a riot and he loves it. We bought the frame but fabbed everything else like chain guard, fenders, etc.
I also have an old Trisport. That thing is an animal just waiting for you to let your guard down so it can kill or maim you. It has...
When we ran through our 'practicality' exercise, we found we could rent pickups (even HD ones) and come out way ahead of owning. But there's a PITA factor, and for me and I'm willing to give up some cash in exchange for having what I need right when I need it. It also helps that messing around...
If practicality was the only concern we would all be driving minivans. Ours can do 95 percent of what our lifestyle demands. But driving the minivan doesn’t bring a smile like trundling around in the F250 or zooming around in the brown bomber (our 83 Ranger).
Mine was broken when I bought the truck. I, too couldn't find a correct replacement. When I googled '1994 F250 Diesel Throttle Spring' Napa part number NOE 7321113 showed up. In their website, it says it doesn't fit the truck, but after not being able to find anything in the yards or online I...
I like the heated mirrors. Do you know if there are any available for the standard non-tow type mirrors? The ones that mount only to the door on an aluminum bracket. My searches haven't turned anything up at this point. If nothing else, I might try drilling a hole in the back of a spare one...
Wes from Classic Diesel Designs has takeoffs. I got one a couple weeks ago and it works great. I too had trouble finding anything. A couple showed up on eBay under the international part number but they were nearly $200. Wes’ is $25...
Yep, got one ordered from my local Advance (formerly CarQuest) and made sure it's metal. The driver's is already metal, probably some bad words behind that too.
I'll try and get some photos posted up after I get home today. My new ones do have a nylon sleeve, the old one doesn't, just some plastic residue. I figure it had one when new, but it wore/broke off over the years.
I’m wondering if it isn’t something like that. If the slop has added up enough that it won’t open the latch enough with the new, properly sized striker. For now, I put the old one back on and it works. I’m going to see about getting a replacement latch assembly.
At least my driver door is good...
I broke the inside handle off. :Q
I ended up getting it open by getting a t50 socket on a u joint and seven extensions through the window cap, then through a hole and loosening the striker. There were may tries and lots of swearing involved.
the door still wants to stick shut no matter how I...
So I was replacing worn out door strikers and I must have put the passenger side one inboard too far. The door shut but it’s visibly further in and I cannot open it. Any tricks to get this door unstuck?
There is none, really. Not sure why I didn't just think to use two additives together. After seeing this thread I have been reading about lots of different additives, and intend to try just that. Sometimes, the answer is right there in front of me but I don't see it; can't see the forest...
When I first bought the truck and read about additives, I tried Howes Diesel Treat because it's what the local place I get fuel in my small town had. I could tell right away the noise difference with the Howes additive. Later I bought a couple bottles of Power Service's winter additive. It's...
Maybe it's a Ford thing, my Ranger was a major pain to bleed when I swapped transmissions. That slave cylinder has a bleed fitting like a brake caliper, so what I ended up doing was running a hose from there to a point above the MC. I then pinned the clutch pedal down with a chunk of wood as...
