1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

Yep I’m prepared for that. The top driver side corner looks suspect. They know about it; we will see what happens.

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

I found out we still have a radiator shop in town and gave them a call. I’ll be dropping it off there for them to look over. I took it off and there are a couple of suspect areas where it might be leaking a little bit. Also, the cost to have it cleaned by them was pretty minimal, if that’s...

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

If the stat wasn't opening, wouldn't the top hose stay cool and squishy?

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

That’s the next step. A few years ago my son heater core was plugged. We hooked one of the hoses up to a sump pump that was in a wheelbarrow full of vinegar and set the other up to drain back. We recirculated the vinegar through the core overnight and were able to revive it. I think I will try...

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

Here is the top of the radiator. The hose was full of fluid and pressurized when it was hot. It’s better than I expected but still kind of gunky. Further over it’s a little bit worse.

Thanks for the tip, that makes a lot of sense! I will give this a shot as soon as I have a chance.

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

If it were the fan clutch, wouldn’t the radiator be hot all the way top to bottom? If the lower hose is cold wouldn’t the engine be getting cold coolant and not overheat? Unless I’m missing something there. To look at the radiator I’m planning on pinching the upper hose shut and draining enough...

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

Ok I put a mechanical water temp gauge in today and test drove it. Going down the highway empty at 70mph it was sitting at about 210F. When I got back into town the temp went up to about 235F during the half mile or so to my house at 25mph. About halfway down the rad was cold. Lower rad hose...

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

Thank you for the replies. Yep I've heard about the factory gauge being trash. However, it was consistent for so long, then does this, and it's repeatable. I might put in an aftermarket gauge to troubleshoot, but I still think something's off. I thought maybe the upper rad hose was harder...

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

The coolant level was normal. No issues when I ran it with the rad cap off. I replaced the sensor (or is it sender?) and it didn’t change anything so it’s not that. The sensor needed to be replaced anyway. Are clogged radiators common? With it being hot on top and cold in the heat exchanger area...

1994 7.3 NA Running Warmer than Normal?

I was parked today idling while waiting for someone and saw the temp gauge at about 3/4 scale. Normally it’s around 1/4. This was after an hour or so driving through town so stop & go. Truck is a 1994 F250 7.3 IDI NA. I shut the truck down and checked it over, it didn’t feel or seem hotter than...

    Driveshaft support bearing

I used a cutoff wheel to remove mine. Outer race and cage are obvious. I very carefully scored across the inner race and smacked it kind of tangentially and it opened up the race enough to get it off. I used a piece of 1.5” pvc pipe to drive the new one on. I used some tape to hold the pipe on...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I put cruise control in my 94 F250. It was so easy I felt like I was cheating.

    Cruise Control

For anyone wondering, it looks like you just need the horn of with cruise, servo box and cable, the brake pressure deactivation switch, and probably a master cylinder. My MC lacks the port for the brake pressure switch, so I plugged it in electrically and tied it off just to test things out...

    7.3 idi engine shudder/miss

Cool, I looked up the company and it's definitely a large, legit outfit. Its parent company is the largest oil/gas company in the world and the second largest company by revenue overall.

    7.3 idi engine shudder/miss

Interesting, I will have to keep my eye out for that. If it's in stock near when my oil change is due I might give it a shot. I couldn't find in the data sheet or Wally listing any reference to its group number, just that it's using hydrocracked base oils. Does this mean it is group III as above?

    7.3 idi engine shudder/miss

Most 5w-40 I’ve seen is synthetic. Are there any concerns switching to synthetic for an engine that has been running conventional for 20 plus years and several hundred thousand miles? I remember years ago people saying it would loosen sludge and cause leaks. I’d like to use 5w-40 but my engine...

    Cruise Control

Mine already has a clutch switch. I had to add the heim joint to the clutch MC pushrod, so I definitely know it's there. I should have most of what I need by the end of the week. If the weather improves and I have time I might try to put it in this weekend.

    Blueish white smoke when accelerating

I bought the same one but haven’t used it yet. Mines running good so far but I figured it would be a good tool to have. I intend to check timing this spring when it warms up a bit.

    Cruise Control

Well we will find out. I found just the horn part for sale but wasn’t able to get the wheel. One of the yard guys told me they tend to go with steering columns and that may be why they were hard to find. I’m going to get just the horn piece and give it a shot. Worst case I end up with a spare one.

    Cruise Control

Do I need a whole wheel or just the version of the center horn part with the buttons?
  23. B

    Cruise Control

A question on the steering wheel, will I need an entire column? I know my wheel has brushes, will the cruise control version require a clockspring?

The Official "Show Us Your Ride" pictures of member's trucks thread.

I would hire you for plumbing work based solely on the name of your business, but the mileage charge would probably be pretty steep! Very clever and the Ambulance is icing on the cake!

    My Turbo Tale

Mine definitely continues to have seizures until the display is warmed up. The guy that said it was the temp compensation was from Auber I think. I have to find the post. I’ll look when I’m back at a computer that I can operate with some competency. I’m not so good with the phone.
