    Pioneer DEH-33HD stereo

Hi folks - I'm selling the 2-yr old stereo out of my truck. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it; I just wanted something with a few additional features. Some literature: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/DEH-33HD Included: - A BRAND NEW wiring harness...

    more issues no ezplaination

You have the electric fuel pump and still have air in the lines when you try to start it? That's not right. It's a band-aid, but the electric pump should basically purge the lines of any air once it's on (well, on the feed side at least, but a leak on the return side shouldn't prevent the truck...

    What temp sensor

uhm........what computer? One sensor is for the gauge in your dash, the other is for the 'overtemp' light. Sounds like you plugged into the 'overtemp' sensor port, which is what most of us do. Mike

    Suspension (chassis?) popping noises........ball joints?

Just to tie a bow on this...... Turns out it was the transmission crossmember. I let this go for a while since I'm not driving the truck all that often, but it was getting progressively worse, to the point that folks riding with me were getting concerned the whole frame was coming apart. I...

Where do you guys mount your electric fuel pumps?

I have mine bolted to the support bracket behind the passenger side battery. All I had to do was plumb new line off the end of the hard line that had been feeding the mech pump, then run line from the pump to a hose barb I attached to the fuel filter head. This does put the pump in a pull/suck...

Headlight mod circuit for the DIY guy.

I know it's been discussed on here before, but I am still a fan of the LMC kit. It's cheap, OK quality, quick to install, and is plug n play so it can easily be removed if desired. Some aren't a fan because the relays are a bit uncommon and therefore not found in the parts store should you need...

    Factory Alcoa Lug Nuts

My experience comes from using aftermarket center caps (the ones you find on ebay), but you DO need lugs with a 7/8" hex for them to fit. They will NOT clear the 1-1/16" lugs that came stock on my bricknose. I believe the same holds true even if you use the OEM Ford caps. It's just that much...

First ride with boost and exhaust gas temperature guages

That'd almost make sense for the cruising and hard acceleration runs (200°C = 392°F, 350°C = 662°F). Still doesn't make sense that idle is that high, though (assuming it is °C). Mike

First ride with boost and exhaust gas temperature guages

EGTs seem very low. Idle should be 200-300 (depending on how long you let it idle), and that romp up the hill should have put the number in the high 100s. Mike

    Lift pump?

'He' would be me. '30131' is the part number for the wiring kit I used from Painless Wiring. It can be purchased any number of places, including Jegs, Summit, or Amazon. No, you don't have to use it. Yes, you can absolutely do it yourself by piecing the relay and other necessary bits together...

    Max Temp

I've hit lower 230s. Nothing bad came of it (that I know of), but it was enough to convince me something wasn't right. I replaced the thermostat and haven't seen over 215 yet. Mike

    Gauge install

The only problem with replacing the stock sending unit with the one from the new gauge (aside from the non-functioning stock gauge) is that it'll throw a 'check engine' light. Not that that means much in our trucks, but I found it annoying. Instead, I plumbed the new sending unit to the same...

IDI vs PSD vs 5.8..need to expand my search

351 is a good engine reliability-wise, but some would say it's down on power. I had one in a 89 SCLB 2WD, and for what I used it for (light loads in the bed, the occasional U-Haul trailer full of household items, etc), I had no complaints. Mileage was low teens at best, but then again I'm not...

I cant keep up with my Alcoas.

When I put Alcoas on my truck (the OEM Ford ones with the notches), I had to buy new center caps to go with them. I used the ones you find on eBay all day long for about $89 for all 4. They hold on to the outer edges of the lugs and don't have the Ford logo on them. I did have to swap out the...

On a Carrier pump screen/filter which way does the diesel flow?

The shape really wouldn't be any different. It just has the core on the outside of the media is all. My background with filters is more on the manufacturing end. I worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for a filter manufacturer, specifically for the department that made the disposable...

On a Carrier pump screen/filter which way does the diesel flow?

Not technically true. You don't see a lot of them (especially in automotive applications), but inside-out flow filters do exist. Assuming the filter design uses a core, these style filters are easy to spot becuase the core is on the OUTSIDE of the media, not the inside. Mike

On a Carrier pump screen/filter which way does the diesel flow?

On a single-layer metal mesh filter, you don't really need to concern yourself with blowing it back out the opposite direction. That's more for multi-layer filters, especially those that use fiberglass or some other dense media. Best thing for it would be a quick run in an ultrasonic cleaner...

Coolant filter - you think you don't need one? Watch this !

OK, but to play Devil's Advocate, how many miles did the truck have BEFORE installing the filter, and were there any adverse effects as a result of having all this crud floating around in the cooling system? Mike

    Filters

Oil: Motorcraft FL-1995, though I used to use the base model Purolator (the PSD version) when I first bought the truck because I bought a bunch of them at a closing K-Mart for next to nothing. I'd have to search for it again, but I once found the tech specs on the Motorcraft filter media, and...

    Headlight relay kit

The LMC kit is $30 and is 'Plug and Play'. Combined with installing new bulbs and tip-tieing the harness for a clean install, I think the job took me 20 minutes tops. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of frugal. But by the time you source out 2 relays, their harnesses, the mating harnesses for...
