    Finally towed a real load

Any idea what kind of temps you were seeing while towing that? Just curious how the radiator did... Mike

    Other... People...

Huh. Haven't had one negative incident yet in my truck, and while I'm not rolling coal, I'm not exactly hiding the fact that it's a diesel, either. I half expected some negativity when I straight-piped it, but the turbo really does keep the volume down, unless I'm decelerating in gear. I...

    Belt ?

Did you try taking the belt that fits into the store? They typically have a belt gauge hanging around. Makes quick work of it. Mike

    Old school tunes

That's not single DIN. Seriously, though. Do you guys have smartphones? A Bluetooth capable deck can be had for under $100 from reputable brands. If you have a smartphone and a data plan, streaming from Pandora, Amazon, Spotify, or similar is a million times easier. Other option is a...

    Question about a 89 F350

I'm guessing the 'seizing' is actually the clutch engaging/disengaging. A real seize would be....bad (like 'throw the belt bad'). Perfectly normal if the AC is on and/or the defrost setting is on, but otherwise it shouldn't be happening. If it's doing it a lot, it either means your charge is low...

    Dealing With Wally World

Take it back to a Wal-Mart without a service center and/or take it to the return counter. I would almost guarantee they'll not bat an eye. I knew a guy who ran one of their batteries in his vette for a month, returned it for no reason other than he found out the old battery was good and just...

What size is the block heater hole?

Mine takes MAYBE a second or two to fire, even when the coolant temp gauge reads 38 degrees (seen it once so far this winter). Block heater isn't necessary if the glow plugs are working, at least in sunny Socal. Mike

What exhausts work with Banks (other than Banks)?

***UPDATE*** So, curiosity and boredom got the better of me today and I took the truck over to the local muffler shop for a chat. I decided to straight pipe the truck by just having them slice out the muffler and install a piece of pipe in there. So now the truck has a 3" straight pipe setup...

Who here runs a fuel additive?

I've been using Stanadyne Performance Formula for over a year now. I split one whole bottle between the tanks every fill-up, which is overkill. Truck has always run smooth, but I notice that it idles a bit smoother and the IP/injectors are a little less noisy running it. I get the same effect...

plz help is this for an 89 ford

I would say no. Too much curvature. Maybe an OBS, but probably for something even newer. Mike

    New Radiator in!

Either the industry has changed since I've worked in it, or Advance has a way stricter/screwier warranty policy. I worked at Kragen (now O'Reilly) throughout high school and college, and even had a brief stint at AutoZone. In my several years, I was never told to not honor a warranty because...

What exhausts work with Banks (other than Banks)?

Just to clarify, mine is a 2nd Gen Banks 'Sidewinder' kit. It's just not wastegated. And yes, such a beast does exist and was offered. It's just the wastegate version was way more popular. Mike

What exhausts work with Banks (other than Banks)?

So, let's just hypothesize that I wanted to put a 4" exhaust on the truck. No reason, really. I know lots of folks install kits made for OBS Powerstrokes onto our trucks. Would a kit like this bolt into my bricknose, which has a Banks Sidewinder turbo installed? Ideally, I'd like something...

    Fuel pump conversion. 91'F250 I.D.I. 7.3

If you read more in the thread, I posted up part numbers on which block off plates do and don't work, as well as a part number for a Painless wiring kit which can help take some of the wiring confusion/worry out of the mix. Mike

    Cruise control quit

This is going to sound dumb, but check the cruise cable. The cruise on my truck stopped working once. Turns out the cable had popped out of the holder on the injection pump. Mike

    86 f350 A-pillar guages?

Because no one makes a pillar gauge mount for this generation of truck. You have to modify one made for an OBS. I did this for my bricknose using a pod made for an OBS and it came out fine. Mike

Direct fit fuel pump block off plate.

Spectre 42473 is also a bolt-on plate that won't interfere. For an extra bonus, it comes with bolts and gaskets. Mike

Falls off at WOT near governor....normal?

OK, newb question, but I am curious since I haven't ridden in any other IDIs... My truck seems to run strong enough all the time. Not a speed demon, but once it builds some boost (non-WG Banks Sidewinder) it trucks right along. But, one thing it seems to have always done since I've owned it...

So, i got into an accident today...

Easier way to check compatability is to jump on an auto parts website like Rock Auto, find the part number for your truck, then see what other trucks have the same PN. In fact, a lot of times if you click the 'info' button next to the item on Rock Auto, they will have the info from the...

Champion aluminum radiator specifications, including comparison to OEM

So, finally had the first long drive pulling anything. Only two sportbikes on a trailer plus a bedfull of gear, but no matter what I did, the worst I could get it to was 213. For comparison, this same trip would get me to upper 220s easy, potentially 230s. And for this one, I left the AC...

    Carrier Lift Pump Mounting Assistance

I've seen many folks mount theirs to brackets that they custom make that hang off the fuel filter assembly using the assembly's mounting hardware. On mine, I bolted it to a support bracket coming off the passenger battery tray. Had to remove the battery to do it, but all it took was a drill...

What is a normal cold start like?

My 91 lights off as fast as I can turn the key, even when cold. Maybe a second of hesitation on really cold days (by San Diego standards), but still fires up faster than my newer gasser vehicles. Mike
