Pardon my ignorance, but mechanical fan clutches are bit of a 'new' thing to this youngin'. I know the clutch is a purely mechanical device, but are there some general rules of thumb about when the clutch does/should come on?
I ask because I was giving the truck a good workout yesterday and...
You could probably skip the oil gauge for now, and maybe go cheap on the gauge pod by mounting them under the dash with a cheap mount for now. Diff cover is nice but not necessary. I'd put shocks and the alignment high on the list if you're going that far and the current ones are shot. Driving...
Bumping this old thread looking for some feedback.
Took the truck on a 600 mile-ish trip last weekend with the most load she's seen so far (under my watch anyway). She had 2 sportbikes in the bed, two more on a trailer, and a bit of gear. All told, my guess is she was towing/hauling an...
I'm kicking around the idea of having the LUK/SouthBend SMF conversion clutch installed. Anybody know what a reasonable estimate on labor is for this, hours-wise?

But it's just so yummy!
Anywho, knock on wood, the new rad cap seems to be working. I installed a Motorrad unit from O'Reilly (13 lbs with the built in de-pressure lever) and have been checking the upper hose every time the system is cold. So far, it has always de-pressurized. Coolant level...
Just went and checked the bypass hose. Took the end out of the overflow, then blew back into the rad. Heard some noises in the area of the cap and was able to put a bit of pressure in the upper hose. Actually, that's another point. Coolant temp is about 165 right now and the upper hose has no...
So here's another weird part of the equation. The pressurization isn't consistent. I fixed the leak last night (took off the hose, cut off a bit, and put it back on with a new clamp), filled the system, burped it, then went for a 20-30 minute drive around town. I parked the truck in the...
The connector I mentioned is the one that's plugged into the bulb right now. On the harness, there should be at least one connector that mimics the end on the bulb. Unplug both headlight connectors, then plug the connector from the harness into one of the connectors that was plugged into the...
I have a OE thermostat laying around. Just been too lazy to install it.
As for the cap, are the units with the safety valve built in any good? Seems like it could at least save me a coolant bath the next time.
Overflow holds fluid fine. The hose is still the original, but is in good shape...
FWIW, I used the LMC kit and it is working just fine. No fitment issues, and I didn't have to remove the batteries. I hooked mine into the passenger side headlight connector, then ran the rest of it along the battery cable on the rad support using some zip ties.

Hey all -
My cooling system doesn't always want to de-pressurize when cold. I almost always have to use a towel to slowly open the rad cap so as to not take a coolant bath, and the upper hose is as hard cold as it is hot (not rock hard, but definitely under pressure).
Over the last few...
Body panels? No, but all sorts of other parts. I recommend doing your research to make sure the part is the right for your car, but otherwise they're great. And, being Amazon, the return policy is great as well. I've gotten into the habit of buying a filter from them every time I need something...
Thought about that. Could be related, but not sure. Everything I've ever read about the slave says if you can get it to operate, it'll bleed itself over time. Like I said, the problem's been around since before it was replaced, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything....

AZ's site is a little cryptic in their descriptions, but I THINK this is their kit to convert FROM DMF to SMF: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Duralast-Clutch-Set/1991-Ford-F250-3-4-ton-P-U-2WD/_/N-itu0cZ6o243?itemIdentifier=570707_448877_4121_
Reasonable price, but don't know the...
I've never seen a leak or puddle (oil at least) under the truck, but I'll take a look. Thanks! I'm assuming a quick glance with the inspection plate off will tell me everything I need to know, yes?
Mike
Thanks for all the responses, guys. Took it out for a bit of a jaunt at lunch. Of course, it behaved perfectly normal, which is another characteristic I forgot to mention. The problem seems to be intermittent, and I haven't really been able to draw any conclusions as to when or why it starts to...
