Proof of a thermostat gone bad.......

Wow, lot of action on this one! Nice to see a healthy and mature debate on all this. It's good to bring this kind of stuff up every once in a while to remind us of why we regurgitate all the folklore around here (as you'd find on any forum). Anywho, just as a follow-up, I have yet to have a...

    pyro, coolant temp, merging video

Well, from my recent experience, the thermostat and the fan clutch are both fairly easy DIY jobs. Figure maybe $150 for all the parts (and that's probably overestimating), and about 3-4 hours of labor, and that's at my slow pace. Dropped my coolant temps 10 degrees just running around town...

    Front brake rotors at U-haul

Not to discourage anyone from buying this one, but comparable prices (and better) can be found on RockAuto. Also, take any PN from RockAuto and chuck it into amazon. You'd be surprised what they carry, and how good their prices can be. Mike

Proof of a thermostat gone bad.......

FWIW, my OE gauge never got above the 'M' in NORMAL, even when the temps hit the 230s. Pretty much reinforces how useless that gauge is. Mike

Proof of a thermostat gone bad.......

Yeah, but there's that big 'if' in there. Just got tired of freaking out every time I towed the bikes out to a trackday, which then inevitably freaked out anyone riding with me. So, for everyone's sake, this was a good job to doLOL. Now to find something heavy to tow and really see how she...

Proof of a thermostat gone bad.......

The seal basically crumbled apart during removal and handling of the thermostat. It was there, but by the time I took these pics, I had picked most of it away. Mike

Proof of a thermostat gone bad.......

Thought you guys might like this....... So, my truck has run warm since......well, as long as I have owned it. Didn't have proof until I installed an aftermarket temp gage (Autometer digital unit with the sensor in the factory overtemp location), but ever since then it's been pretty constant...

    THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT 101 Tech PicTutorial

Just wanted to bump this thread to add a pic I thought y'all would like. My truck's been running at 205 (give or take 5 degrees) ever since I installed the temp gauge. It's an Autometer digital gauge with the sensor in the factory over-temp location. Not a bad temp, depending on who you ask...

    ebay aluminum radiators

I've had mine in for around a year (I think), and I'm reserving judgment on it until I replace a few other cooling components. My temps seem warm even unloaded (205°±5°F), and quickly go up with even the lightest loads when climbing hills. However, I did not install the temp gauge until AFTER I...

    Fan Clutch on The Chjeap

Crap. Don't tell me this isn't legit. I just bought one, too! Getting tired of my fan kicking in (or not kicking in) at weird times. Mike

mech temp gauge installed, 210 is normal right?

I have an Autometer digital gauge with the probe in the overheat port. Since the day I installed it, I hover right around 205 and don't really make it back under 200 unless its a long downhill section, and even then we're only talking 199 or so. Used to figure it was normal, but I've seen as...

    Bad fuel leak, need help!!

Agreed on doing the whole set at the same time, and definitely source it from Russ (typ4). A couple other tricks: 1. Check any new caps for molding flash on the inner portion before installing. Address with a little bit of sandpaper. 2. Lube the living snot out of the o-rings during...

    Fan clutch and thermostat info?

Mine's in the same place. I see 205°±5°F running around unloaded, sometimes into the 210s if running the AC and/or running up a long hill. Haven't worked mine as hard as yours, but with my heaviest load (4 sportbikes, a small trailer, and a bunch of gear), I saw as high as 230°F once while...

    Fan clutch and thermostat info?

Where do you have the temp sensor installed for the coolant? As I've been told, it makes a difference on the temps you'll see. Same with EGTs for that matter (even more so, actually). Banks' literature recommends 1050-1100°F as a safe limit for EGTs, but their pyro is installed in the turbo...

According to a member on another forum..... The Parker Vibra Loc (Olives) are on the: * Lift Pump to Fuel Filter at Filter (3/8" one required) * Fuel Filter to IP both ends (5/16" two required) * On the 6.9 there is also one on the return tube from the IP to the return tee at...

    Leaking Coolant

Glad to hear it all went well. Not terribly surprised re: your experience with O'Reilly. I worked for Kragen (now O'Reilly) all through high school and college and only learned about Fleet Charge when I bought this truck a year ago (and I graduated in 2005). I remember seeing it on the shelf in...

    Leaking Coolant

+1 on Fleetcharge. O'Reilly carries it; they just don't know about it. Seeing how your tacking everything else in the system, maybe this would be a good time to replace the thermostat as well? If so, the rule of thumb is to only use an OEM Motorcraft or International thermostat. Mike

    Greetings from Australia

Under the pic, or perhaps to the right, should be a number of options to share or link the pic. Copy the one that begins with , then paste it here. Basically, to share any pic within a forum (as opposed to only giving a link), just add the 'IMG' parts to the ends and you're good to go. Mike

If you get a Champion, it's a 3-row. The 2-row is called the American Eagle. Assuming you need the tall, narrow radiator, the PN is CC1165. Hit up eBay to purchase. Mike
