    cold advance, it..advances..right?

So, just to save myself from starting a new thread....... When our trucks are timed properly, a LOT of clacking is normal at fast idle on a cold engine, yes? Just got mine fired up this weekend after my throttle cable mishap while timing it the weekend before. She runs great (COMPLETELY...

    Batteries keep dying

Just use a voltmeter back at one of the batteries. Truck off, they should read 12-13V. Truck on (engine running), they should read 13-14.5V. Mike

Can someone please confirm the accelerator (throttle) cable PN?

So, is there a step in the Banks turbo install instructions that says "cram a bunch of insulation material in the intake valley below the CDR location to soak up fluid leaks"? I ask because I got the cable in today (the -U PN) and during the install, I found a huge pile of stringy, oily stuff...

    Fan Shroud Bolts

IIRC, the 'nuts' for the shroud are threaded clips that go on the tabs of the radiator. On mine, I needed to move the shroud up just a tad when I installed my Champion because it was hitting the lower hose. To get the play I needed, I swapped out the stock shroud hardware with a couple bolts...

    Better oil filter?

Nominal isn't the number I'd be concerned with. I'd be more interested in the Beta ratios, in which case the two you posted are still pretty close to one another. Anywho, the thing to focus in on, and the line that's not seen in the Wix literature you posted, is the capacity of the filter...

    Better oil filter?

Impressive filtration efficiency, but that thing is stupid huge. Cant imagine it would fit. I already checked their site to see if they have a regular Powerstroke equivalent, but sadly didn't see one. Mike

    1994 f350 7.3 idi turbo??

Vehicle price is ENTIRELY too geography-dependent for us to be of much help to you. One man's 'rip-off' is another man's 'deal of the century' depending on where you are located. Best advice on price is to keep an eye on sites like CL and get a feel for what the going rate is like in your area...

    New To The Group - 86 6.9 C6 - 90k original mile F250 Lariat - 6 of 8 Glow Plugs Bad

FWIW, mine was a lot like yours when I bought it. Basically stock, low miles, no mods except for a Banks system, and a few dead glow plugs (likely originals). Swapping the plugs on this truck was one of the first jobs I did (did the return lines and caps at the same time). There was no drama...

    Batteries keep dying

Check the voltage at the battery with the truck running. Should be at or near 14 volts. 12 or less means you're not getting any juice back from the alternator, so either the alternator itself is bad or the wiring is. FWIW, the parts store can test your system free of charge in about 5...

    Injection Pump Nut Wrench

Here's what I was able to find. IP Mounting Nut Wrench: T86T-9000-C or OTC 303-287 IP Rotation Wrench: T83T-9000-C or OTC 303-228 or OTC 7461. Another option: http://www.terrapinmfg.com/display.php?prod=23 (not affiliated with this site) I know this is going against the 'shadetree...

    Im so tired of.....

Trying to fight back with more smoke is the diesel equivalent of putting a bigger, more obnoxious fart cannon on your ricer because some other guy had one louder than yours. At the end of the day, all you've done is add one more douche to the road. Mine smokes when I lug it (no wastegate, so...

Can someone please confirm the accelerator (throttle) cable PN?

Parts bin link is in my original post. Just got off the phone with my usual Ford parts place (White Bear Lake Ford in MN, formally Tousley Ford). They show the PN for mine to be E9TZ-9A578-U. Their website recognized the other PN, but seems to think that the other PN is only for OBS trucks...

Can someone please confirm the accelerator (throttle) cable PN?

Hey all - Well, one step forward, two steps back. I timed the truck this morning using the super awesome timing kit rented out by icanfixall (Gary). Worked splendidly, btw. But, while trying to get a wrench on some of the injector lines at the IP to get a bit more movement out of the pump, I...

    Water pump / fan info

Yes, yes I do. Maybe we could barter for some timing assistance? *wink wink* Seriously, though. I have my original clutch sitting in the garage. Just removed a couple weeks ago. I'm not even ENTIRELY sure it's bad, either. Mike

Oil pressure reads low on OE gauge at turbo (Banks)

Motorcraft SW1547B. It's what RockAuto shows as the OE oil pressure sender/switch for my truck. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=386505&cc=1124468 FWIW, the one that came off it looked almost exactly like this (also listed for my truck)...

If I replaced it with the OE part, is that what I really did? Mike

Oil pressure reads low on OE gauge at turbo (Banks)

Hey all - My OE oil pressure gauge has read low since....well, not sure. I've owned the truck for 1.5 years, and while I cannot definitively say it has always been low, it's certainly been low for quite some time. The gauge typically barely gets to the right of the the red line, let alone...

    I Got a Thinky Missing...

It's called a door striker bushing. They're still available. Dorman (HELP!) is the most common aftermarket brand for them. Mike

    Leak keeps coming back.

Kinda. Zycam bottles have a cover on the tip that fits perfectly over the end of the injector, ensuring you don't knick the o-ring during install. Mike

    Clutch issue today

Well, assuming that there truly are no leaks, the only thing I could think of is air in the line. Mike

Why do you love your IDI?

I LOVE bricknoses (this is my third one), and LOVE the idea of never having to deal with CARB, so the IDI was a win-win. I was (and in many ways still am) a diesel newb, but as most of you know, you couldn't pick a simpler specimen to cut your teeth on. 'Love' would be a strong word for me to...

    Leak keeps coming back.

I used the kit from typ4, complete with Viton o-rings. For install, I used petroleum jelly (lots) and the 'Zycam bottle trick'. Done this job twice (long story) and no leaks either time. Mike
