First start after swap..Sealing water pump and bolts

I would do it one bolt at a time. Have a same size bolt ready to lightly screw to keep the coolant in while you put sealant on the bolt you just removed, then switch to the sealant coated bolt. You will lose a little coolant at each bolt, but not much.

    blinker fuse keeps blowing

I had a similar problem a few years back. After a lot of diagnostic work found nothing. Then I remembered that I replaced the ignition switch about a month before and everything worked fine after that replacement-- until three weeks later the turn signal fuse started to blow. Checking the...

    C6 trans temp?

The green band on my F250 4 x 4 Banks transmission temperature gauge starts at 170 and goes to 240, yellow starts at 240. Yellow is from 240- 260, then red. Top of red is 320.The Banks gauge sensor is on the hot fluid line from the transmission to the radiator. Fluid then goes to the auxiliary...

any 6.9 fuel water separator alternatives?

Mine was bypassed 23 years and 120,000 miles ago. Fuel only goes through the stock 6.9 filter. No issues. I do change filters every 15,000 miles and look for water at that time. Never have seen any. I also use Stanadyne fuel additive on a every three month or so interval and the truck is...

Damage inside differential, what to do next?

I agree, you probably have it back together by now, but if not, just make sure that the differential cross pin is secure before putting it back together.

    Tachometer questions

I don't know the answer, but if your stock tack is not working, the usual culprit is the sender on the cam gear housing. $75 +-

    Lets play guess that sound!

Diesels take a long time to warm up because the pump air wide open, no throttle blades restricting flow, especially in winter and if you are using cabin heat. You will see cross country truckers with canvas covers over their radiators in winter to keep engine/ coolant temperatures up. 185- 190 F...

    Oil in Coolant

Oil cooler failure is often the first sign that coolant has gotten acidic and corroded the relatively thin oil cooler tubes. A bit late, but start monitoring coolant condition with coolant test strips so that you do not have to do head gaskets. Consider adding a coolant filter with coolant...

    Newb with '87 6.9L

In my view it is unwise to not monitor coolant condition. Diesel engines, because of their very high compression and combustion pressure are much more prone to allowing a few molecules of combustion gasses past the head gasket on the power stroke at high throttle settings. Combustion gasses...

Burn at yellow wires of big connector.

I added a section of heavy yellow wire and used wire nuts and dielectric grease for the connections on mine about ten years ago. No issues since.

Belt Loose, also anyone hear a knock?

Sounds fine to me. The alternator belt needs to be tensioned. Loose belts are subject to being thrown off the sheaves. I use this tool to check belt tension: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324740640326?hash=item4b9c0cee46:g:NRMAAOSwiOBhCyLG Belt tension should technically be 72 pounds using the...

    Oil Gauge Reading LOW

I don't know about a '91, but the Banks conversion for my '85 relocated the oil pressure sender unit to the top of the turbo. That introduces even more error to the OEM oil pressure sender because the new location is measuring oil pressure at the turbo but there is line loss caused by oil...

    Inline filters.

I do not understand why some install inline filters. I have run my truck for 23 years so far with ONLY the factory spin on filter on the passenger side of the engine. I do change that filter every 15,000 miles.

    How hot is too hot?

I am not sure of the load you are pulling and maybe I missed it, but the first thing I would take a very close look at is the radiator. Have a radiator shop take upper tank off, tubes all clear? If they are clear, a bigger radiator may be needed. Last August I drove my '85 F250 4x4 C6 from CA...

6.9 IH glow plug controller bypass

This is the glow plug relay. Power to the glow plugs goes from copper terminal with the big red wire on the right to the copper terminal on the left which feeds the glow plugs and wait to start light. If the relay is good but the controller is bad, you can jump positive battery voltage to the...

coolant change question for my 1984 F250 with 6.9 IDI

That additive is what is commonly called a water wetter, plus it may have some PH raising capability. Probably can't hurt. Get some coolant test strips to determine the condition of coolant, especially in diesel engines. One example: https://www.acustrip.com/cgi-bin/prodcat.cgi?pc=Coolant...

    6.9 diesel won't start, 1984 F-250

I would first try providing power to the glow plugs by jumping the glow plug relay for 8- 10 seconds and see if it starts. In the picture below, the two large copper terminals are the power flow through the glow plug relay to the glow plugs. Jumping across them bypasses the glow plug relay and...

    Blown fuses.

Good advice above, Anything done to the truck BEFORE it started blowing fuses? I once replaced my ignition switch, two weeks later it started blowing the turn signal fuse on left turn. Turned out that I had pinched a wire while installing the new ignition switch and it took two weeks to decide...

    ATF fluid change....

I have been running Red Line D4 full synthetic since 1998, added 120,000 miles to the truck for a total of 266,000 miles on the truck and C-6 transmission. I also installed a B&M deep finned aluminum transmission pan (extra capacity) and an external transmission filter as well as a large...

    Vibration at Speed

Make sure that a driveshaft has not been assembled one spline off on the slip joint(s). Driveshaft U-joints at each end of the shaft MUST be in the same plane or strange vibrations will result. Easy to check. Cross cup 0--------------------------SLIP--0 cross cup
