Draining oil rails for injectors removal

    Water cooled Banks turbo

And by any chance, do you know what model of Banks this turbo would be?....I don't have a picture of it at the moment.

Pretty much everything is a crap shoot it seems. Auto parts and otherwise

Draining oil rails for injectors removal

The old gaskets were burnt at the plugs....albeit still working. So, I feel its worth the money to go Ford OEM....my .02. BUT they aint cheap

    Water cooled Banks turbo

Hi guys. Working on an 85 6.9 with a Banks turbo, that is water cooled. Never messed with a water cooled turbo before. Anyways, its leaking like a sieve from the inlet coolant hose to the turbo and I cant really get to it without removing the turbo. So, question is....can I bypass the...

Draining oil rails for injectors removal

Did the injector swap today. Pulled them all out, pressurized the cooling system (I didn't drain the coolant), looked closely at all the cups and NO LEAKS!! So that was a big plus! Installed the good injectors with new orings after sucking out cyl # 7 and 8 with a mighty vac. (I wasn't...

Draining oil rails for injectors removal

Ok good point I will do that. DO they usually leak once the injectors are pulled? I have had no signs at all of leakage thus far but the injectors have never been out. And can used ones be put back in or are they a replacement item once they are out?

Draining oil rails for injectors removal

So if I pull 7 and 8 first, then do the rest; I can call it good enough by sucking what dumps into those rear cylinders, pulling the plugs and cranking...and no need to drain the oil or fuel rails?

Draining oil rails for injectors removal

Does the coolant need to be drained if the cups are staying in?

Draining oil rails for injectors removal

Ah, didn't know about the coolant. I wasn't planning on replacing the cups as this bill is getting high as it is. There has not been any cross contamination of fluids at all. Just injectors, orings, UVCH, glow plugs and valve cover gaskets. Are there oil drain plugs under the valve cover...

Draining oil rails for injectors removal

For my upcoming injectors swap job, what is the procedure for draining the oil rails before removing the injectors? Do I pull the large plugs on the back of the heads? Or is there another way to do it? How about the fuel rails? And does the HPOP need to be drained to? Thanks guys

    Injector install master kit, DCP

Ok Conestoga it is. I bought all my idi stuff from them, pumps and injectors. Must have had a brain fart as I didn't even check with them for PSD stuff.

    K....fair enough

    Injector install master kit, DCP

Has anyone bought 7.3 injectors from Diesel Care and Performance? They sell and injector install master kit with harnesses, glow plugs, and injectors and the price seems to be the best I can find. Seems like an "easy" way to get everything that should be replaced when doing an injector job. I...

    DT466, injection timing

I believe that my turbo seals are bad, due to seeing some oil in the downpipe and seeing how the smoke doesn't really clear up once warmed up and lots of play in the shaft. So I'm thinking I will buy a new one. Has anyone dealt with JM Turbo before? There prices look fair.

    DT466, injection timing

Do you fellas have a rough idea on where the fuel screw and star wheel are set from the factory? It would be great to have a starting point and go from there, to eliminate a poorly adjusted pump from my possibilities of things to be causing the smoke and low power. I have ordered a boost gauge...

    DT466, injection timing

Yeah maybe...Runs very very smoothly tho but I guess one could still be leaking a bit.

    DT466, injection timing

Still smoking. A hazy blue at all times. At idle and under load and at high rpm's with no load. Not really burning much oil, gotta be fuel related I'm thinking. Its starts very well when cold so I'm assuming the compression is ok. No more blow by then normal.

    DT466, injection timing

Just went through all the valves, there were a few that were a bit loose, but nothing severe. I adjusted them all to .025. I don't think they have been done before, as the gasket acted like it was original, crumbled and was still painted blue on the edges. I have not taken it for a test drive...

    DT466, injection timing

I have no idea if the valves were ever set. That's something that completely escaped my mind. I will look into doing that. That would make sense as a contributor to low power and smoke.

    DT466, injection timing

Its not really burning any oil, so I'm now looking to the fuel system as a possible cause of smoke. I would like to know how to correctly adjust the star-wheel ("pre boost, smoke adjuster"). I realize that spinning it away from the front of the engine will theoretically reduce smoke, and I...

    DT466, injection timing

Hey thanks guys. I ended up flying at it and figured it out, wow what a nice way to time a pump without needing a meter or anything. Another great thing about a 466.... So it was set at what appeared to be 23* which is what the sticker on the manifold says its supposed to be. I don't think...

    DT466, injection timing

Hi there. I recently acquired an 88 International S1900 with a DT466, Bosch MW pump. Runs excellent, but quite smokey, blue/whitish smoke on acceleration. It does slow down some once its warmed up but not completely. Just a light haze when you start it cold and idle but as soon as you hit...

to the people that dont want to touch the lower rotating assembly....

I was feeling nervous when I did my first oil change, at about 9 years old. Then I worked up to spark plugs, points and slightly more complex things, and many years later it was injection pumps, heads, bottom ends. Everything is a little touchy the first time around. Now I'm a bit on the...
