Need advice with my 1992 F250 7.3 IDI

    You need to add SCA.

Cost effective way to tow a 6.9 f250?

One cost-effective way to tow any vehicle that distance is a AAA Plus card.....

    Slot mags 1980-86

Alcoa rims were stock on the PSDs. I honestly don't know if they were available on the first OBS IDIs. But since yours is a 1994, and they introduced the PSD in 1994.5, that may be why your truck has Alcoas. Or perhaps they were swapped on by some PO. Do you see four notches in the hub holes...

    Parts

You realize that the grand prize with an acquisition like this is the axle itself, right? So why not just swap the whole axle/springs assembly? And you def. want the F350 driveshaft, since it has the double cardan joint.

    Parts

To clarify, what parts do you want to put on what truck? What drive (4x4/2WD) is each truck?

    Slot mags 1980-86

Those ^^^^^^ appear to be teh stock Alcoas; still my favorite wheel for these trucks. And these are all aluminum. AFAIK, "mags" is just a figure of speech, referring to the visual resemblance to magnesium racing wheels. I don't think you'd want actual magnesium rims if you ever blew a tire.....

Did you check for a stuck FSS? Does the engine shut down with the key like it should?
  8. M

Key does nothing replaced bad ignition switch which was necassary but wasn't only problem.!

START with fuses and fusible links. Easist things to check and most likely suspects.

Are you getting power to the FSS? Have you checked ALL fuses, including underhood? Checked fusible links?

How To: Remove That Infamous Top Starter Bolt

Quick starter R&I makes coolant changes a LOT easier.

    Wts light cluster

The other lights in that cluster turn on when you turn the key to START (NOT when you turn the key to RUN). Check again. If you want to just check light operation and not crank the engine, turn the key to START without pressing the clutch (or shift out of Park/Neutral if automatic). This engages...

    Proper adjustment for parking brake?

What year truck? ALWAYS start by manually adjusting the shoes. This is just as important for the hydraulic brakes as for the parking brake.

What would YOU do? Just curious

IMHO, the ONLY thing the Chevy has going for it is the extended cab. Otherwise, the Ford is * a no-electronics IDI, * a 3/4-ton and * a 4x4. To me, that Chevy should have a sticker on the dash top above the cluster reading "Warning: May cause drowsiness"....

How To: Remove That Infamous Top Starter Bolt

That's exactly how I've done it, with the IDI and at least one of the PSDs. It's always made me wonder what all the fuss is about.

    Fss no power

Hmm, that ground should only be for the starter relay itself. It shouldn't have had any impact on the power coming from the always-hot terminal that acts as a junction point. Or was there also a ground wire with a ring terminal on that screw?

    FINALLY...got the truck I want

Challenge - six-door build, but replace the passenger-side middle and rear doors with a set of barn doors, eliminate the pillar, rig up a ramp and a kneeling suspension. Super-duper-crew IDI for the whole family.... Hmm, this gets me thinking... why hasn't anyone done a six-door, but with the...

Is the contact circuit of the fuel pump relay energized by the FSS circuit? Or just the coil circuit?

Can you post a pic of it installed, and/or a link to the valve you're using? BTW, can a mod move this to the IDI section?

    New truck

AXLE code on the door jamb tells you the diff ratio; does not identify the front axle itself. But since it's an OBS F350 4x4, it's going to have a Dana 60 under it.

    Picked up a new truck

All the SDs of that era were that style, at least up to, what, 2007? The half-tons never looked like that. To the OP - Think of all the gloom-and-doom spark plug stuff this way - if/when it happens, you have a nice solid SD truck as the starting point for a PSD/Cummins swap.....

C6 to ZF5 clutch hydraulics question

My '85 has one of the firewall reinforcements; I forget which. I adapted an OBS-style master-line-slave to it, also to avoid bleeding. Had to clip off a corner of the mounting flange of the master, to clear a flange on the reinforcement. Also had to egg out one hole on the mounting flange of the...

    New (to me) 7.3 idi

Any reliable 4x4 manual IDI should fetch $2000, so yeah, even with the work needed, $2000-2500 is in the ball park. Make sure the electric fuel pump isn't in addition to, esp. upstream of, the original lift pump. Inop fuel gauge is more likely to be the gauge head, since it's both tanks, so it...
