2 years later, almost to the date. The Amsoil MTF in 2 zf-5's and 2 zf-6's have shown no downsides. The only noticeable thing I gained was slightly better cold shifts.
Although I don't have an answer for you, I applaud your efforts and thought here and im with you on realizing that these things are getting old and we're gonna have to start getting creative as time goes on.
Yeah you want to stay genuine motorcraft for these parts, but it would be very beneficial to retrieve all data/codes with an appropriate (powerstroke compatible) scanner; before money is thrown at various sensors and guessing at the problem.
Fuel restriction could also be a problem....this is a...
Im a AAA/CAA towing service provider (running ford and ih diesel emergency vehicles); and I still would recommend to be as best prepared as you can to get yourself running/repaired to the best of your ability before relying on them to save your ass.
All it takes is one single event of being in the middle of nowhere and needing to bleed/prime your fuel system and drain some batteries or fry a starter trying to get a mechanical lift pump truck bled off. Now you're stuck and things can get ugly fast, depending on the situation.
Yes a...
Yeah I pump WMO with them. They struggle when it's real thick (as any electric pump would) but I haven't had one fail. I do only ask them to pump a 50% blend tops tho and they do fine with that.
I have run the 13, 5 and the 22. the 22 is too high a pressure for our DB-2 pumps in the idi's so if the 22 is to be run in an idi application; a pressure regulator is needed.
The 5 and the 13 are great just as they are, for our idi's
FRB's are all that I run now. Never a failure. I have gone thru several other brands of E pumps. Yeah the FRB's are pricey, but it's cheaper then a tow bill or having to replace the other brand of pump 4 times in the same life span
Use a relay/solenoid. If you want toggle switch control, you can trigger your relay/solenoid with a switch. It's nice to tie in your fuel shut down circuit to that switch also so you don't accidently run the truck every now and then, with no lift pump on.
I have run 4 over the past 6 years or so, on different trucks. All have been great except one failed within a few months. Maybe 100 starts. No excessive cranking or any form of abuse. But aside from that one, no problems. Knock on wood.
I don't think over 500k is out of the question or even surprising for and idi that has been used and maintained correctly and within it's parameters. I have many of them and none are under 300k. I don't expect that any of them are in a state where they need a rebuild anytime soon. However I...
Manual glow control (especially on the obs truck) can really help increase the life of the under cover harnesses, which otherwise become a problem sooner or later. Not to mention the reduced strain on the glow plugs themselves and the alternator
Yeah I agree that excessive idling isn't the best for engines, some tolerate it less then others. However due to my work and previous work that I have done; I do have things idling for long periods of time. (hours and sometime overnight in extreme cold) Whenever possible I will put a load on...
Outfitting a truck currently, that is going to move to Alaska and the fella burns a veg oil/bio blend and wants a coolant heated fuel filter header.
What would be the best place to tap into the cooling system for the best flow/least disruption to the cooling system.
Im not a bio diesel guy, and...
FRB-13/FRB-5.
Yes this is a common topic that gets brought up often. BUT, like anything, the quality of pumps is always going downhill and we need to stay up to date with what's good. I have gone thru many brands myself, mech and electric and the Walbro FRB's are proving to be the most...
Seems as the biggest midship tank that spectra makes, is the 19gal F83A.
I called Titan Tanks. They dont offer a model that fits a single cab, cab and chassis application
Has anyone installed an extended range midship fuel tank such as this one?

I need to add fuel capacity to a wrecker chassis, with no option of a behind the axle tank as the wrecker wheel lift is in the way...
I don't think 12 microns is low enough. I run a 12-20 micron pre filter on various things, and I like to get down to 6 or lower for a secondary. 6.9's had a factory 6 micron. 7.3's were 10 or something. which was too high for my liking.
We have enough things working against us in life...
Does anyone have an exhaust brake on a C model DT466? Pre 1990-ish. They have a max rated back pressure of 32psi, due to the valve springs. Curious if it's even worth it to install an ex brake with such low allowable back pressure, where other engines have allowable back pressure of 45+ psi.
