2000 shuts off but starts right back up idles/runs super smooth

Start with the CPS. Also possibly the ICP, Check the tin nut on the IPR Check the square harness plug on the drivers side of the engine, make sure it's not rubbing on the valve cover. Check all your grounds, then check them again.

I bought one from CDD a while back. Keep checking there.

    Another terrible loss..

I know we don't all have the knowledge that some of these folks did, and most are busy with other things....but hopefully we can continue to fill these niche voids as time goes on, to keep our community thriving. As these lost guys would have wanted. I will likely try to step up to a...

    Another terrible loss..

He always took the time to be sure everyone had what they needed, no matter what it took. God speed. Until we meet again. I'm thankful to have many of his products

    Bingo! That makes sense.

    Head gasket failure pics.

A fresh set of current Felpro gaskets. For a 6.9, not from CDD. There is no hole half ways into the fire ring. That other set must have been a bad screw up. Whats the protocol with the rubber plugs/inserts for the water jackets, included but not installed in the gasket itself. And i've...

    Head gasket failure pics.

The hole that I am referring to is the one that is right up against the fire ring, not the punched hole over the cooling jacket.

    Head gasket failure pics.

Anyone else have failures between one of the end cylinders and that water jacket? Out of all the idi head gasket failures ive seen, none were here.

    Reusing ARP head studs

Had a few that did not remain snug in the block, after removing the nuts. 2 even came out with the nut. Kind of has me concerned about adequate clamping. Probably overthinking it as im sure they're plenty snug once torqued down.

    Head gasket failure pics.

Had a head gasket failure as shown in one of the pics, in the bottom front corner of the passenger side head on a studded 6.9. Turboed pushing max 10psi. They were Felpro gaskets, installed a few months ago, maybe 5000miles max. Not sure really what caused the failure, but anyways I have to...

    Reusing ARP head studs

Have to pull the heads on a fresh build 6.9 to address a head gasket sealing problem. It has a fresh set of ARP studs in it. About 400miles on the engine. Is it safe to re-use the studs? Thanks

    7.3 IDI excessive oil usage

Im suspect that ether use at previous times in these engines lives could have broken rings to cause these problems, but maybe not the compression rings, giving an engine that still runs good, just burns oil like there's no tomorrow

    7.3 IDI excessive oil usage

I see this from time to time when the CDR valve has been confirmed not the problem. Usually some broken or stuck oil control rings. No excessive smoke, just burns the oil as fuel. I have another one here sitting waiting for tear down with the same symptoms. I will bet money to find some...

6.9 & 7.3 idi electric fan clutch conversion

Mine is working great. I no longer have to wait until it gets a little hot for comfort, before the factory clutch locks, IF it even locks. And i've used the manual mode several times on long grades with anticipated heat build up. I can now run without ever getting hotter than 205ish, where...

What's this in the oil pan?

Perhaps I should have said that it's not magnetized, instead of magnetic.

7.3 popping sound from intake no blow by clean oil

Could very well be a valve not seating correctly. It was pretty common on idi's, not so much on powerstrokes. but anything can happen. Next step would be to pull valve covers and closely inspect workings of all rockers and pushrods and report back

    Oil Cooler - Bolt leak??

Probably the gasket. Using Hi-tack seems to be the best way to hold em in place and its good at holding a seal even after disturbing the gaskets and moving them several times during install while wrestling the damn cooler into place. but sometimes, we mess up and it doesn't seal and we have to...

What's this in the oil pan?

It's ferrous, but doesn't appear to be magnetic. I will check that again to be sure

What's this in the oil pan?

Ah! I bet you're right. The front cover was off of the engine years ago, so it would have been disturbed. I'll compare with a parts engine

What's this in the oil pan?

Just confirmed that it's smaller in diameter than the locating dowel for the IP drive
